OK, so i was surfing Wikipedia and I came across a subsection about sex-selective abortion. Apparently, it is popular in countries where having a son is viewed as better and can even be less expensive than having a daughter. I just wanted to know what everyone thought about it. I am all for choice, but aborting simply because a fetus isn't the sex you wanted seems a bit unnecessary to me, seeing as abortion is surgery by the time you can find out the sex.

God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes I think that it is okay and should be allowed. Why? Because it is the woman’s choice. If she is going to resent her child because of his or her gender it is better for both a woman and her possible child.
I would probably not get an abortion because of gender. I am one of those people who would rather not like to know the gender-I love surprises. But if a woman feels as if she would absolutly hate her child if it was a boy(girl) and not a girl(boy) it is best for both mother and child if she gets an abortion. If a woman is going to hate and possibly neglect her child in one way or another that is going to ******** with the kid.
But I do not believe it should be forced. Just like with all abortions, it should be the woman's choice.
If you personally don’t feel that is right, remember that is how you personally feel. And that there are those that will disagree with you and will want to have an abortion for that reason. 'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to choose

It's her choice. I don't like that reason, but it's not my life, is it?
The problem with sex-selective abortion comes from the societies where it is practiced, and banning sex-selective abortion will only increase sex-selective infanticides. The reason many countries view it as better to have a boy than a girl is because the boy will have more opportunities and wealth than a girl, and would therefore be able to take care of his parents better when they are old. Instead of offering those same opportunities to women, the countries would rather just make it so that baby girls aren't wanted.

I still think it should be the pregnant female's choice.
There are people who would hate their kids for being the wrong sex... I think (for those people) it's a more responsible thing to do, to find out the sex of the fetus as early as possible and abort if they seriously don't want a kid of that sex.
It's better than subjecting a born kid to a life of abuse, in my opinion.

I'm pro-choice for any reason, through out pregnancy. What seems unnecessary to some, is vital to others.
I'd rather she abort and be happy with her child, than resent it. I've heard a few cases where kids were abused, because they weren't the sex their parents wanted.

While I may disagree with it, I'd never take a woman's rights away to aborting solely because of the fetus' sex. I'm pro-choice for any reason. An unwanted fetus is an unwanted fetus; it doesn't matter why.

It is my body, I decide who gets to use it and when.
Am I a racist if I outwardly refuse to sleep with black men? Possibly. But it is my v****a and no one is entitled to have it. Whatever the reason I come up with for denying someone use of my v****a (too tall, short, poor, ugly, black, white, asian, hispanic, fat, skinny) does not matter - it is my v****a and the minute I don't want you there it becomes rape.
The same with the fetus... it does not matter why the woman does not want the fetus there... the fact she does not want it there makes what the fetus does a bodily infringement equivalent of rape that she has every right to mitigate with lethal self defense.
I support sex-selective abortion. And if for some reason I wanted a specific gendered child (I don't want any children) I'd have a sex-selective abortion to achieve this. Furthermore, I don't see anything more wrong with choosing what gender child you will give birth to than choosing which gender child you wish to adopt (which is done regularly).

I can't really say I'm comfortable with the idea on a personal level but I wouldn't refuse the abortion on those grounds.

I don't like it, to be honest. For one, it creates a dearth of women. I'd say that if you want a kid, you want a kid... but in places like China and India, it's quite different, isn't it? I can see how those societies would create a problem like that.
I don't like it, but it's still the woman's body.

I don't like it, but I would not try to stop a woman from getting an abortion under the grounds that I don't like their reasoning. I kinda think it's sad that in some countries one gender is greatly prefered over another ...

I support a woman's right to get a sex elective abortion, even though I don't agree with that choice. I mean, in a way it is sexist, but then again by that logic one might argue that aborting a fetus that would be born with special needs is also a form of discrimination.

It's her choice. I don't like it, but I don't think outlawing abortion is a good way to make it stop.
I think the better way of stopping gender overpopulation/sex-selective abortion is to educate families and find ways to meet old traditions with ways to make it easier on a family to have the "less desired" gender. Instead of stopping abortion, which is more of the symptom than the problem, stop the mentality that female babies are "worse" than male babies, which is the root of the problem.

If people were socialized to accept both genders, then having a particular gender of child would not even be an issue.
However, males are more prized in this society than females, as much as I don't agree with the socialization.
I support sex-selective abortion, it's no use for parents to choose not to love a child just because of their genitals. Plus, in my personal opinion, women do go through more hell in life than males, so to me it's like trying to avoid suffering if a parent aborts a female.
Plus, I would love to laugh at a humanity stupid enough to have an extremely high ratio of males to females, and hope that it teaches humanity a lesson in recognizing the intrinsic value of female-hood. However, there's still a pessimistic view in me that thinks that men will abuse, torture, own, and dominate women no matter what circumstances because of the socialization that men go through, so a dramatically smaller population of women probably won't help women at all, but make them just as or even more vulnerable to male exploitation. -_-
Of course, I choose to be child-free, because bringing any new child to this world is suffering for it and for all of the other people, and it strains resources on Earth.
