Sounds crazy, but it's true. I was in the parking lot of Costco, packing groceries into the car, when I saw something moving on the ground. On closer inspection I found a young Giant Water Bug, about an inch long. They can fly, and this one must have gotten lost. Apparently it had been out of water for a while, and wasn't looking too good, so I put it in an empty coffee cup and brought it home. I have it in a one gallon tank with a hood and a UGF to keep the water clean. I gave it two feeder fish last night, and it killed and ate one. Once it reaches it's full size (3 inches), I'm going to move it to a five gallon tank.

This is what they look like, btw.

Haha, yes. This guild is a little slow and sometimes it takes days to get a response out of us. ^^;

What a place to find that little guy! I used to get them in my swimming pool a lot. I never thought of keeping them as a pet, I guess I'm just not an insect type of person. xD

I've fed a bug to a fish, but I certainly have yet to feed a fish to a bug lol~

Well I hope he grows up big for you! I'm sure he finds himself most fortunate to have been picked up out of that parking lot. 3nodding

I've always liked bugs. I've had a tarantula, praying mantis, and various beetles as pets. heart

that is very awesome and I wish we had them up here, but if I might make a suggestion I would reccomend keeping feeders aroud for a few days to gutload bthem, as they are usually very poorly fed at stores and not good food. aslo, im not usre if this applies ot insects as much as it does to fish, but I wouldnt use goldfish as they have an enzyme in them known as thiaminise (I think thats how you spell it :/) that breaks down vitamin b1 and can cause deficiences if fed in excess.

I'm not using Goldfish. I'm feeding him Rosy Minnows because they're smaller. He's so tiny. heart

I did that when I set up the tank. It has gravel, but no rocks, and I even took some weeds from the lake by my house for him to hide in. I thought that he would feel more at home if I used native plants in the tank, as opposed to Java Moss.

Same here...most of my fish are omnivores.

Well, he didn't eat the minnow, so I've been feeding him flake food. I'm surprised that he takes it. I guess I'll feed the minnow to my mudskippers (once I get them).

I found a gold fish in a trash can. D: Well i guess it has to happen alot though. I was at a fair and i went to go throw my cup away (or somthing i forget) and there in a baggy was 3gold fish One was dead the other two were in pretty bad shape. So i rushed home and i had to unbottle like 50 billion water bottles to fill up a smal bowl. xd About 1 gallon or so. I imedatly put them in the water because i figured that better water outwighed the water temp.

Now there is one and it is in a 5gallon tank i have. The other one died.
