A light brown lioness lay sprawled out happily near the watering hole, her blue tail twitching in aggetation. She had met her grandson for the first time, but he seemed much older than a cub--she expected Kubwa to come sooner, and it seemed that he was afraid of her. She let out a low displeased growl, she had never felt such anger and anxiety. Her pale son had asked her not to tell Mvumo or Kipanya, her oldest son right away, but a white fluffball was hard to hide.

Sighing she looked up at the skyline, it was mid-day, perfect sun bathing weather and she could not even enjoy it. How she longed for Mvumo at that moment, his silent large form always sent her fears and worries running. The most beautiful thing to happen to her was her sons, and now one of them has a son..was that a beautiful thing? Did Kubwa find Tetemeko beautiful? Or was he a burden to him? They seemed like they loved one another and Kubwa was very kind to him. If only Aadil knew the truth, Kubwa lived and breathed Tetemeko.

A dark brown lion was approaching the watering hole, almost strutting as he shook his fully grown jet black mane. Kip felt great not having to worry about looking so much like his dad anymore, but one the flip side of things the amount of heat his mane trapped was extremely obnoxious. Kip knew that he and the watering hole were going to become lifelong friends.

But what was this? Another brown lion in the area? Since Kip didn't see a white mane on the other lion, he knew of only one lioness it could be...

"MOM!"

Kipanya ran the rest of the distance to the watering hole, eager to talk to Aadil, since he had not seen her in a while.

Aadil let out a long sigh again and looked around, her demeanor soon changed when he heard a familiar voice shout 'mom.' Her eyes shot in Kipanya's direction and she smiled and bobbed her head in the usual fashion.

"Kipanya, my son!" She said warmly but did not move from her spot, "how are you, sweeheart." She knew the childlike term was for her boys when they were younger, but her eyes could never fool her heart, they were her babies.

"I'm doing pretty well," Kipanya said, as he sat down nearby. "Having a black mane has been interesting given the heat, but I've been managing. I was actually coming here to cool off a bit, since there hasn't been rain for a while." Considering his parentage, this was a major disappointment for Kip.

"How are you, Mom? What new things have been happening lately?"

She chuckled happy that the only thing he had to complain about was the heat and the rain, not like his brother.

"I promised that I would not tell you, but I think it is best you know," she paused thinking it over on how to say it, "Kubwa has come home, with...a son." She looked at Kipanya waiting to see his reaction. She had not been thrilled, but what was she supposed to do? Abandon her son and grandson?

Kipanya blinked a few times before he was certain he had heard correctly. Wait, could that wierd conversation where Kubwa told him something about a goddess and the stuff that makes cubs really have been Kubwa's way of warning Kip? Of course, now would probably not be a good time to tell his mom about the particular details Kubwa had...detailed. "Just a son? Where's the mom?" Hey, if she really was the goddess Kubwa had claimed she was, she should be there, right?

Aadil frowned Kipanya was very smart and had come to the same thought she had, or at least she thought, "No, no mother and Kubwa will not speak of her, and Tetemeko does not know who she is.." Concerned she looked at Kipanya, "Did he tell you anything, anything at all? You're brothers he may feel closer to you."

Her tail continued to twitch in aggitation, what was she going to do about this mess? Looking at Kip made her long to be with Mvumo for a few hours, to sort out the same ideas with him, "You've both grown up so much." she said quietly more to herself than to him.

Oh great. Mom was asking him the question directly, and he couldn't very well lie to Mom. But Kubwa would get mad at him if he told everything that happened...especially that goddess stuff, which didn't make much sense at the time and would probably make Mom think his brother had gone mad.

"He did talk to me once, acting completely unlike his usual self and saying wierd stuff about cub-making. I guess he must have been trying to warn me...but believe me Mom, if he had said any thing that made sense, I would have talked to you and Dad about it." He said as he shrugged and stared at the water. "So Tetemeko...is Kubwa's son?" It felt extremely wierd to say that.

She wasn't sure that her first born was telling her the complete truth, but who was she to question their good son?

"We'll have to have a family meeting, all of us. Tetemeko included, after all he is your nephew and my grandson. We'll need to discuss the situation, but there isn't much we can do. I'll never through family to the hyenas, but we do need to sort out some details...like who is the mother? And did he steal the cub?"

She sighed and bobbed her head, what was the brown lioness going to do? It was not like he would b a burden, he would probably be a joy to keep around. But, she didn't want trouble from another family if infact Tete was not their's. Why was she so stuck on ths point? She was so concerned that he wasn't...but his appearance made him undoubtable Kubwa's.

Kip blinked a few times to be sure he had heard his mother correctly. Then, carefully surpressing the temptation to laugh at the very idea, he said, "I don't think Kubwa would have stolen someone else's cub. He really doesn't have a reason to steal anyone. It seems like too much work to sneak a cub past its parents without getting killed and then get stuck with the responsibilities of raising a cub and the anger from you and Dad when you found out he had a cub without a mate."

Although the idea of burglar Kubwa trying to steal away a cub without his white form being seen was amusing, Kip didn't think there was any likelihood of it being true.

"I know, my son. I just...I wonder what happen to her? What mother leaves such a young chil behind? I think I've made something up because I'm sure it breaks our Kubwa's heart, having a son by someone else?" she laughed a little too loudly in her anxiety, it was unlikely that he'd steal Tete she was foolish to believe so.

"You are truely my good son," she stood up and nudged him in the shoulder affectionatly, "and my smart one."

Kip tried to feel good about his mother's words of praise, but now new thoughts were racing through his head. Truth be told, he had been planning on leaving the Pridelands, at least temporarily, to see some more of the world his father talked about. He wanted to know about the land of mists and waterfalls where his father had grown up, but now he felt a looming sense of responsibility to his parents. He knew that his departure would possibly upset his parents in normal times. Now that he had a nephew without a sister-in-law...well, he had an obligation to be responsible.

"So I guess you'll need me around even more then..." Kip said quietly.

"I only need your love, Kipanya, if you have other obligations, perhaps a pretty female that you could court, I will understand," she dropped the hint coolly. Kipanya was more mature than her dear Kubwa and she was sure that anyone Kip would chose would have a good head on her shoulders and stick around longer than Kubwa's fling.

"I'm sure I can handle your naughty brother, his son, and father on my own, if it comes to that," she bobbed her head and cracked a grin as if it were a joke to the female.

A pretty female to court? That was laughable. If only his mom knew what he was really after...but to travel outside the Pridelands, not knowing if he was going to return? It just didn't seem like the right thing to do anymore.

"There isn't a female in my life right now," Kip said. "Perhaps there won't be for some time. Then again, there's always another Pridelander to meet...apparently including my nephew."

"Find a nice female for me? Settle down, make your mama pride?" Her eyes twinkled with longing for a proper daughter in law, a proper daughter in law and proper cubs. "How about we go back and see your father, see if Kubwa has decided to explain himself."

"Oh, and Kip, thank you so much for reassuring me, and correcting my silliness, it was horrible of me to think that your brother would steal a baby." she stood an started to walk towards the copse hoping that Kipanya would follow and explain why he would leave, "Do you want to leave our pride?" she asked curiously, "You asked if you were needed, that implies maybe you want to leave?"
