Stephan was strongly opposed to spending the day in the mall, but Vega had outgrown his clothes and he wouldn't keep anything Steps had gotten for him on. So he had given in and taken the toddler into the city for a day of shopping. Baby Gap, Kids Palace, Limited Too. The kid was really a piece of work. For the most part he hung by the entrance of the store, letting one of the girls that worked there help Vega find things he liked.
Vega was in heaven. Right now he had two teenage salesgirls helping him, and permission from daddy to get whatever he wanted, no strings attatched. Except maybe to stop whining. The stroller he had been in was by now full of bags, mostly clothing with and occasional stuffed animal or piece of jewelry thrown in. Most of the kids stores he went to were fairly androgynous, but somehow he had managed to find every piece of sparkly and fluffy attire in the building.

The mall wasn't the place Tristan wanted to be either and for that matter, neither did Holden. But the raccoon boy had grown a fair bit and those that did fit weren't staying together after Tristan tried to make a hole for the boy's tail. He was going to get it down professionally this time. With only a few outfits left the trip to the mall was annoying but necessary.
So here they were a store. Tristan looked through the small clothing looking for something he though Holden may like but with the child being nearly mute he wasn't really helpful. After a moment he looked to the little boy who stood next to him looking very bored. "Why don't you look for yourself, the faster we get this done the faster we can go home."
Holden huffed and nodded and began to look about. He had found he didn't totally hate shopping, but with Tristan doing all the looking, it got very boring very quick. Looking around he noticed another child in the store that was being helped by a couple of older girls. He watched a moment, amused by all the sparkly clothing this child seem to be accumulating.
Tristan didn't follow right behind his boy, he lingered a bit away from Holden and half looked at other clothes and half watched his son.

Vega jumped up and down in front of a full length mirror, experimenting with poses and angles as he tugged a purple feather boa around his neck. He had gotten the thing in the toy store, much to the dismay of his father, and hadn't taken it off since. "I want more sparkles!" He told one of the women, pointing to a white t-shirt with an array of sparkling butterflies on the front. "Those are for girls," the girl told him patiently, "I don't think your dad would like you wearing that." Vega scrunched up his nose, pointing at the shirt again. "I want it!" he shouted, stomping his feet, "Daddy said I could get what I want and I want that!" Seeing that the girl wasn't moving to get it he took a deep breath and puffed out his cheeks, crossing his arms in a challenge. He could hold his breath until he passed out, but he had a feeling she would get the shirt first. And he was right. The girl sighed and reached it off the rack for him, hanging it down defeated. "Don't be surprised if your daddy says no," she warned him, then went to help someone else as he yanked off his own shirt and replaced it with his new prize.

The child before him, the girl (because that was what Holden was certain Vega was, a girl) held Holden's attention a little while longer. The posing was amusing but he was really amazed at how pretty this girl was with the feather boa and now the sparkly shirt. He stayed quiet and simply watched.
Tristan might have noticed his son's odd behavior were it not for the sales person, who upon being finished with Vega, came over to see if Tristan needed anything and the man was distracted.

Vega was entranced by his own image, until he caught sight of the boy standing behind him. Spinning on his heels he cracked a smile, "Hiya, you like?" What he was referring to was himself, which he gestured by running his hands down his sides.

Holden had hoped he wouldn't be noticed and shy as he always was upon meeting new people he took a step backwards, away from Vega. He did answer though with a simple nod. He did like Vega, he was pretty.

"C'mere," Vega said suddenly, reaching to grab Holden's wrist, "You can look in the mirror with me. It's fun." Truth be told he just wanted another companion, but the other boy had seemed kind of sad. Not surprisingly, the startlet tot didn't understand the concept of being shy.

Holden was taken aback and his instant reaction was to pull away from Vega. He stopped though and went to the mirror as he was told. This little girl (he was still oblivious to Vega's gender) seemed to be alright so he might as well go along with it.
He looked at himself in the mirror, not knowing what to do now and then he looked to Vega with an eyebrow raised, questioning.

"You gotta pose," he told Holden, putting his hands on his hips, "Like this." Hm, he didn't really seem to be into it. This might call for drastic measures. "Stay here," he ordered, "I'll get you something pretty." Without another word the diva child skipped away into the racks of clothing, sifting through pieces that weren't quite the right color. Finally he came running back, holding a pair of tight black pants and a stylish red shirt bearing a gothic cross. "Try these on," he said, though it sounded like a demand.

Holden looked at the clothes and while he wasn't sure if he wanted to try them on but the demand in Vega's voice made him oblige. He took the clothes and went into one of the changing rooms for a few moments.
When he came back out he was wearing the clothes and a slight frown on his face. He wasn't sure if he liked the tight pants, especially with his tail.

Vega seemed to be inspecting the other boy when he came out, darting to various angles. "You've got a funny shaped butt," he said finally, pushing on it with a finger while he attempted to figure out what was making them fit weird. He hadn't noticed the other's tail before, and now he was quite confused. Unfortunately, that confusion did nothing to help his boundry issues.

Holden jumped a little when Vega poked him in the behind. "S'tail," he muttered before reaching into the back of the pants and pulled his tail out, all in all a very awkward looking moment. He hoped that would be enough explaining for Vega.

"Oh," Vega chirped, poking the appendage once more. Then he tapped his chin, staring at the pants. "We could fix em," he offered, "Oh oh! Wait." He ran off, disappearing amongst a rack of skirts. When he came back he was carrying a handful of loose cotton skirts, sticking them out toward Holden. "Lookit," he offered, holding up one of the shorter ones, "They won't squeeze you."

Holden frowned a little looking at the skirts. They were girl clothes and he was not a girl. And while Vega made a vaild point about the not squeezing he still couldn't see himself wearing them. So he shook his had "For girls," he said and made a bit of a face.

Vega pouted, extracting a slightly longer black skirt from the pile. He held it up with a scowl, swishing it back and forth. "Who cares if it's made for girls, you can wear it too," he argued, "Don't be dumb." His face seemed like he was tired of this Holden's resistance, which said something to the degree of patience he usually showed others. Even if Holden was kind of Pretty he didn't really act it.
