Sura was fresh into adolescence, and she found it exhilirating. She was so much bigger now - she had been growing slowly each day and never realizing it, until she was finally an adolescent. One step away from being an adult, and she was completely ready to take on the world.
Granted, she was still frailer than most lions her age - she and her two sisters had always been sickly, they had been born that way and probably would remain that way for the remainder of their lives. The fact that she was supposed to be careful with her body and know her own physical limits didn't seem to put a damper of Sura's perpetual cheeriness. In fact, she seemed to disregard it completely. She didn't care for being careful, and she certainly didn't give a rat's behind about her bodily limits. It was what she pushed herself to do that was of any value to her, and it was almost as if her sickly body knew it, and held out much more than it was supposed to.
She had never yet had an accident with herself, which explained much of her overbearing confidence that her body was unbreakable. She had never experienced the pain of a breakdown, so she would have no idea. She could not even begin to fathom what it was like, and until she was forced to, she wouldn't even bother.
The white lioness' teal eyes gazed at her own reflection as she dabbled a paw into the water, marvelling at how much she had matured physically from the day she had been born. The weak, tiny little thing that had been blind and deaf and could not smell.

A small earth red form flitted in and out of the trees as she giggled wildly, she'd gotten away from the boys with no problem! Haha! she thought happily as she slipped into the area bordering the water. The form of the white and grey lion drifted into her view and she stopped abruptly. Had the larger creature noticed her? Both mother and father, and all three of her brothers had warned her that she may not be accepted.
Surely no one would hate me for what I am? I cannot help it, just like everyone else cannot help it? She thought as she cautiously stepped forward, bite the zebra on the rear and just talk to her, she coached herself inwarldy, but she did not raise her voice in greetings. It would be this new creatures turn to dicover her. Her soft blue eyes darted around searching for a possible escape route incase the encouter would be too dangerous.

The sound of joyful giggling reached her ears, and she turned her head in its direction, looking for its issuer. She rose into a sitting position, then to her paws, as she caught sight of a strange looking brown cub with a heart on her forhead and a flashy pink mane down her neck. She was the strangest lion Sura had ever seen.
No, lion couldn't be the right word... granted, she did look like a lion, but there was also something about her that said clearly that she wasn't quite. The white lioness stood for a moment, head tilted curiously toward her, before she called out a greeting. "Hello," She said, still anxiously trying to figure out what it was. Nothing was popping, though, as it shoudl whenever she realized something that was right in front of her.
She couldn't quite figure it out. It would be up to the little cub to give her the answer, then, she supposed, making her way toward her. There was that cheeky look on the cub's face that told Sura that she had obviously just been in the middle of a game with some other cubs her age. Perhaps it was hide-and-seek, or something of the like?

A broad smile spread across her maw her bright white teeth sparkling, this girl was nice! Yaahooo!
"Hi, I'm Nakupenda, you can call me Penny for short, what's your name?" She giggled and stepped towards the older lioness. All fear and caution thrown to the wind, she had found perhaps a GIRL to play with? She was lanky like a cheetah but she had the paws and build of a lion, "I was playing with my brothers, I ALWAYS win!" She bragged bubbily.
This little cheeton was a talker and if dear Sura could handle her constant babbling she'd make a friend for certain. Penny was easily the most mischevious out of the entire litter, she was always up to no good and talking to strangers would classify in that.

Sura grinned. "I'm Sura'athari. But then just Sura is alright." She was already beginning to like this cub. Friendliness seemed to fairly radiate off her, and although she did look a little strange, something like appearance was easy to get past.
"Were you now? What were you playing?" The games she had played as a cub had been fairly restricted. She hadn't much liked playing alone, but her sisters hadn't always been compliant about playing her games, so she had been left to do what they wanted. She had come up with all sorts of different games that had seemed perfectly fun when she'd come up with them, but had been turned down by her siblings, and she had found she had come to take up an interest in cubs' games.

"Hide and catch, and I really like your name Sura, could we be friends?" she beamed happily. Today was certainlya good day, she was so excited to meet a new person that she was pratically oozing with joy. Besides a friend who was a girl was far better than some stinky brother any old day, "Were you going to swim?" She inquired thinking about how the older lioness was loooking into the water.
"My daddy said that I'm a special case, did you know? My mommy is a cheetah and my daddy is a lion," she added bluntly,"but you did, thanks."

Sura had already taken a liking to little Penny, and she grinned at the cub's question. "Sure, Penny, we can friends." She considered just how straightforward and cheery Penny was, and she couldn't help but envy her. Life had never been quite so bright and shiny in Sura's world. Of course, it was something she could live with, she could live with the fact that no matter what she did there would always be a damper in her life in that she would never truly be as strong as a normal lion could be. But she could live without thinking about it, and that was good enough.
Sura shook her head. "Not really. I just like playing with the water." She explained with a small nod. She had found that she enjoyed staring into the water and being able to see her own reflection and past it into the undercurrent, to the bottom and see the rocks that littered the underwater ground.

Nakupenda bubbled happily, she had a friend that was a girl, wait until mom comes back, I'll be able to tell her! Her mother Kari had went off to visit a family member and left three of the cheetons with Hasidi, their father.
"So, can we play?" she grinned up at Sura, she even had an OLDER friend that was a girl, how cool!
"I havn't learned to swim yet, do you know how? I saw daddy swim once, but that was awhile ago!" She was a happy cub and would never know a world of huts or dampers, her entire family was healthy, her dad did suffer from a limp, but they were all strong and had one another.

Sura smiled at that. She had always known how to swim. She didn't really know why, or how she knew, she simply had. Perhaps it was just something she had been born with, but she had been playing around in water since she had been old enough to stand with her head above the surface. "Yea, I know how to swim." She said with a nod. "It's not too hard once you get the hang of it."
She paused to consider what it was that made swimming seem so hard to some. It was the fear of drowning, she decided. Thinking that they would sink like a rock to the bottom and never see the light of day again. In fact, that was not true. Really, it depended on the way in which they entered the water. If you thought you might sink, your body would do just that and sink itself into the gloomy depths of the oasis. Think otherwise...
She had learned to think like her body, to think for it as well as herself, and she understood how it worked better than she understood herself. It was awkward to try to describe it, but somehow she had developed an inner bond with it, so that she knew just how to get it to do what she wanted. The mind controlled the body, and she controlled her mind.,

"Will you teach me to swim?" she asked perkily, of course meeting a stranger and asking them to teach her to swim wasn't very smart but she wanted to be able to show the boys something new that she could do, when Mhuni comes back she'd be able to flaunt her new skill.
"It would be great if you could?"
(Wow, sorry so small. I think it's a bit harder because Penny's new to me. ><)

Sura grinned and nodded. "Sure, why not?" She turned her gaze toward the water, considering the basic facts Penny would have to know if she wanted to learn to swim. "Well I guess the most important thing is, you can't be afraid of the water. You can't think that you're going to sink. If you believe you can float, that's exactly what'll happen. Your body will float for you. To start off, I can support you in the water, but when I let go, just kind of hang there in the water. You have to... trust it."
It seemed strange to be explaining the nature of water and its fragile relationship to living creatures. It was so easy for a river or the sea to wipe out life, and Sura believed that it was only because there existed a delicate balance between the land and sea that the waters allowed land bound creatures into it in the first place.
"When you're swimming, the water is the boss." She added, wondering if it sounded weird. After all, water was simply water. How on earth could it be the boss? But it was true, after all. "Sometimes, you just gotta let the water do its work, let it have its way. If you try to fight it, you won't win. The water will always win."
((D'aww, s'okay xD I know what it's like with new characters.))

"Okay, I think I've got it!" Make sure to think I can float..and you'll show me how at first..I bet I can float better than you, you're a lot bigger, small things float?" She babbled chipperly, she was really going to swim! Wait until she told daddy the great news, she'd learn and show off, how great would that be!
"Water can think?" she questioned, she understood the first few things that Sura told her, it seemed plausible and it sounded a lot like things she had heard others say. She didn't find the conversation odd, just the fact that water could think..water wasn't alive, was it?
She glared uneasily at the waters edge and shivered, what if it was thinking about hurting her right now?
