Eliot was a bit ticked that he'd been placed on Harper pick-up duty ever since he had started regular school. Just because he didn't have a job, had no responsibilities whatsoever, and took daily 14 hour sleep schedules didn't mean he should have to play driver. Ashley could have just as easily done it.
"Why you so grumpy today Eliot? One of your giiIIIIIiirl friends dump you again?" Harper asked, giving a flouncy twist in his words to irritate the older man twice fold.
"I think it has something more to do with YOUR FACE." Eliot maturely responded, pulling his keys out of his loose jeans to click the alarm button. A bright red convertible gave a welcoming beep.
"Get in."
"Maybe I don't want to." Harper said maturely, deciding to be as difficult as possible. He crossed his arms, stuck his nose in the air, and turned away from Eliot, looking back at the school instead.

The school was as uninteresting as it ever was. There was a woman coming out of the office carring a folio - Dr. Darnell, their maths teacher. She had paused with the folio to open it up and carefully file away some papers into it; that was when it was noticeable that there was something on her back. It was a baby carrier.
And it had a toddler in it, who had just focused on Harper with sudden realisation and nearly unbearable toddler rage.
"HARPERR," it shrieked, so loudly that Beatrix dropped her portfolio and some of the papers fell out. "HARPAHARPAHARPAHARPA. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARPAAAAAAAAR."
"Good grief," said Dr. Darnell, looking in the same direction quizzically. Jace was squirming around in the carrier like a bucking bronto; she pulled the carrier off her back and set her down on the grass, not knowing exactly what Jacoba wanted, kneeling down to retrieve some of the papers. Before she could protest, Jacoba had wriggled out of the carrier and was making over the grass to Harper with a single-minded determination. Beatrix grabbed her papers, and popped them in the folio again and gave chase, even as Jacoba ignored the hard concrete on her stumps to latch on to Harper's leg and start punching it ineffectively.

"What in the world?" said Eliot, quite disturbed. He stood up on the bumper of his car to get away from the squirming child, totally abandoning his charge to the cruel world without any defense at all.
Harper, knowing exactly who Jacoba was, wasn't nearly as afraid as his mother's lover.
"Well well, LOOK who it is~" Harper began, grinning widely. When she latched on to his leg his brow quickly furrowed and he began madly trying to shake her off, "Get off! D-don't make me hurt- KILL you, LITTLE.... BOOGER STUPID HEAD!"
"It's like some.. little..imp.. seriously, what's wrong with it?!" Eliot asked out to none in particular. "Dude. We need to teach you how to make friends." He added, a frown aimed at Harper.

"YOU BIG BOOGER STOOPID HEAD," Jacoba announced. "You big booger." (The emphasis seemed to be on big.) "BE SMALL. No BIG. Big Harper gross."
She followed this up by licking his leg. Beatrix arrived too late to save Harper from further cooties and scooped he daughter up in her arms, balancing her on her hip as Jacoba sniggered at Harper from higher-up.
"Good grief," Dr. Darnell said again, quite flustered at her daughter having cootied a student. "I didn't move quite fast enough."

"You sure as hell didnt!" Eliot yelled, getting himself off his lovely car while apologizing to it affectionately.
"I CAN SQUASH YOU NOW!" Harper yelled, with a triumphant very breif cackle that was cut short when she LICKED him. He scrunched his nose and squealed again, "YOUR SO GROSS!" He accused, using his pants to wipe his leg off, doing so quite dramatically until he had rubbed so hard he was starting to get a rash. "NOW I HAVE TO CUT MY LEGS OFF TOO!" He snapped, making a few more icky faces.
"Yo.. YOUR JUST LUCKY YOUR MOTHER'S HERE TO SAVE YOU!"

"Phthththttpt," Jacoba said to Harper smugly. "Big and dumb."
"Jacoba, I don't want any namecalling of any kind whatsoever," her mother said, and the tired old parents' fallback: "Just wait until you get home. Anyway, he obviously has grown up and Harper goes to school now."
Her daughter ignored this, and also the accusation that Harper was her friend. "I go's school wif Harper yes," she said immediately, filled with jealousy.

"Nuh uh." Harper said, shaking his head. "You can't call me names? Well I can call you all sorts of things, my daddy - ACK, ELIOT, won't stop me! And I know new names, too! That's right! Plus you're too little to go to school with me, your just gonna be a baby forever!" He took a step back from Jacoba just in case, then promptly stuck his tongue out at her and blew a raspberry. Age had such slight benefits, the knowledge of a few new bad names and apparent idiocy included.
Eliot, meanwhile, was playing with his finger nails. "I think I need a new manicure, my ring finger's chipped.."

"I GO'S SCHOOL TOO," the little girl announced stubbornly. She stuck her tongue out back at Harper and looked up at her mother beseechingly. It wasn't fair at ALL if he was allowed to call her names and she wasn't!
"Don't needle her, Harper, she's just a baby," Dr. Darnell said wearily. "Congratulations on growing up." (Physically, if not emotionally, she made a mental note on. He was not going to be a joy to teach.) "There really is nothing more embarrassing than name-calling a toddler at your age. I'm sure your, ... .... elder brother there would agree." (Eliot looked nothing like a 'daddy', especially examining his manicure.)
"I go's school," Jacoba continued sulkily in the same vein. "I's put Harper down the toylet."

Eliot blinked a few times and looked up, "Huh? Brother? I seriously look like this lil'monster?" He asked, a self conscious touch to his face.
Harper's attentions were too consumed by his 'fight' with the toddler to bother Eliot much for that comment, though he normally would of launched a kid-tackle on the man. "I'm not embarrassed at all! I don't see why I shouldn't call her a BUTT FACE or - Oh. We will see just who's putting who in the toilet soon enough, won't we? Actually, we won't! Because they don't let babies in big kid school!"
"So. This your kid?" Eliot asked Beatrix, cracking a grin. Obviously pointing out the obvious. Obviously an idiot.

Beatrix gave up, shifting Jacoba to her other hip. "I grows up TOMORROW," the redhead said, soon going as red as her hair. "BIGGER'n STOOPID HARPER." She reached out to try and pull his hair, but was hampered by Beatrix's clutch, and settled for merely rolling her eyes back in her head and biting her upper lip at him.
"Yes, she is," the blonde said to Eliot warily. "I'm your - ahem - I am Harper's mathematics teacher, Dr. Darnell. And you?"

"You can't be bigger than me." Harper said matter of factly again, while crossing his arms once more. "Boys are bigger than girls, EVERYONE knows that. If you weren't a baby and went to school like me, you would know that." He grinned at her, quite enjoying this. "What's wrong, can't reach me?" He asked, swinging his upper body around and flailing about to taunt her.
Eliot looked confused a few seconds, but cleared his throat and collected himself quickly. "Eliot Rose. Harper's mother's .. roommate." Eliot Rose for serious! They all got to pick their own last names when they came to the new planes, and even though Soloman took his off the credits to a horror movie, Eliot's still managed to sound the stupidest. "You married?"

Beatrix, for one of the very few times in her life, turned a total blind eye to what Jacoba was doing: she automatically held her closer to Harper. Gleefully, the small redhead put her arms around his neck, forcing him to hold her.
"Balance her on your hip, Harper," said Beatrix, not looking: her focus was on Eliot. Not that it was obvious who she was looking at, anyway. The bandage around her eyes inhibited that, obviously. "No, I am not married, and thank God for that. So you're Harper's... mother's... partner?" ('Roommate' her arse.)

Harper looked instantly quite nervous and fish-eyed, "But- I- You!" He struggled to get a hold of her, making a very disturbed face at the baby. "Don't do it!" He told her quickly, not having a clue what she might be about to do, but deciding it was a safe thing to say anyway. "If you do it, I'll drop you!"
Eliot shook his head quickly, the smile on his face turning into a slightly overly innocent grin as he glanced off to his left briefly. "No no, Ashley doesn't have partners. We are in a band together, her, me, my friend and Harper's uncle." That sounded good, so Eliot gave a nod. "So your all alone huh? You have that one to handle by yourself? Must be tough.." Wow, that grin seemed to be getting wider, somehow.

Jacoba cackled. "Not drop," she said smugly. "You's goto prison an' diiiiiie." She seemed happy to simply sit there and smirk at him, obviously planning something dire and terrible, and letting him stew!
"I'm used to being independent, Mr. Rose," Beatrix said, aware that somehow, somewhere, Jack was starting to laugh at her. Hard. Loudly. She cleared her throat. "I'm sure Harper must appreciate having so many adults around."

"I'm IN prison!" Harper figured out, scrunching his nose again. "If you do something to me, it happens just as bad as you! If I die, you die! I'm not kidding poopy-butt!... Hey your not gonna pee on me or something are you!?" He asked, deciding that was probably what it was, so he got quite nervous again. "I'll tell your mother!" Seriously, Harper needed to get a little smarter and realize he should probably refrain from giving Jacoba further ideas.
"I guess," Eliot began, shrugging his left shoulder, "But he doesn't need me much, the rest of them take care of him. I gotta admit, sometimes I just want to ... well, you know, feel wanted." He smiled again, "I'm sure you know how that feels though, being that little.." He glanced at Jacoba and had to think about it a moment, not so much her gender but rather her status; as a human, "girl's world - and, looking the way you do." Last part mumbled, definitely mumbled, and he had definitely just been dumped.
