The playground was not very crowded that day. High temperatures and humidity had scared everyone off except for a little boy and his mother. Both of them were pale, intimating that they did not get out often; the blue haired mother's skin was so pale, it almost seemed to reflect light back out at all others. If she wasn't careful, she would soon become sunburned, and that would not be fun for her- especially as young as her son seemed to be.
He looked about two, and rather feminine, with long and dark hair. He had a pleasant look about him, from a vague smile to the hands that clapped busily as he slid down the smallest slide for what seemed to be the umpteenth time today.
"Good job, Carlisle Mephisto," Lixxie said cheerily, picking him up and kissing him on the forehead. "We'll beat this slide yet!" To be truthful, it was Lixxie who had the problem; even at the small elevation of four feet, she was terrified of Carlisle Mephisto falling and getting hurt. He seemed to be dealing with it, chortling happily as he crawled up the stairs to the miniature slide one more time.

"I don't quite get why you want to come to this playground, Harper." Sunny exclaimed unpleasantly, as he lamely followed after his exuberant nephew. He was a guy of medium height and good, masculine build, and he wore makeup and decorated his hair so perfectly there was a feminine air about him as well, though for him it was entirely manufactured. Harper gave a flouncy trot as he looked back at his uncle and only grinned, "'Cause I was too little to do much of anythin' before. Now I can conquer it, and it can be mine-"
"But it's a horrible day today." Sunny reasoned, frowning hatefully up at the sun.
"Your such a wimp!" Harper teased, slowing down when he noticed the pair already making play-games at the playground.
"We have company, it seems." Sunny observed, stating the obvious for the fifteenth time that hour.
"Hi." Harper announced boldly to the playing mother and little boy.

"Hi," Lixxie said, smiling at Harper and Sunny. "It's nice out today, isn't it?" It was a funny comment, coming from a woman whose hair was practically stuck to her head. She caught Carlisle Mephisto as he came down the slide, hefting him up.
He wiggled his fingers at the others. "Hoylo," he said, showing the two one of his vaguest smiles. "S'nice." The dark-haired boy was clearing repeating his mother's words at them to the best of his ability.

"Hello.." Sunny said lamely, shying his glance away from the other two.
Harper wasn't the least bit shy, though. "Not really. I think I'm dieing! But I've been tellin' my stupid uncle here I wanted to come to this playground FOREVER now so if I don't have some fun while I get the chance there's no point." Unfortunately for Harper, he was a bit more sensitive to heat than normal; but Sunny came prepared with two bottles of water and thus far Harper was bearing it.
"What's your kids name?" Harper asked, while walking toward Lixxie, dragging Sunny over in the process.

She smiled at them. "Well, that makes sense. Not everyone likes the heat," she said in a friendly fashion. "This is Carlisle Mephisto. I'm Lixxie; what're your names?" Probably very interesting names, considering their colorful appearances. She'd never seen a child with quite so many piercings, not ever, and if she wasn't mistaken, the older one looked like he tried to look like a girl.
The little boy squirmed, and Lixxie set him down. He trotted up the slide again, balancing precariously on the step.

"Vincent Sinclair. This is my nephew Ha-" Sunny said proper quick.
"-his name's Sunny, don' listen to him. I'm Harper!" Harper declared proudly, liking his name every bit as much as he did when he was younger. "Carlisle Mephisto? You don't have a nickname or something?" He asked, more to the child than the guardian.
"Don't be rude, Harper." Sunny quickly suggested, though he used that shy tone of voice again.
"Oh, shut up Sunny!" Harper quickly barked back.

It seemed that all Lixxie ever did was smile, and worry over Carlisle Mephisto. "What name do you prefer?" Her question was directed to Sunny, more than Harper. It seemed that the boy with many peircings knew what name he preferred quite well, so she didn't need to ask.
"Well, I've never needed a nickname for Carlisle Mephisto. It's a bit of a mouthful, but that's his first name." She watched her son as she spoke, and didn't look at them as she spoke.

Sunny blinked a few times, "Vinc-"
"Sunny!"
"Fine. Sunny." Sunny rolled his eyes, crossed his arms and looked about for a bench to sit on.
"Yeah, but, what happens if like, you needa call him real quick and you only have half a second to talk! Or he's calling collect, and by the time he tells you who he is he can't give you a hint at where he's at so you can't cheat the phone company and then hafta' take the call!" Harper took a deep breath. "Eliot taught me that." He said proudly.
Deciding not to ramble about possible ways to cheat people, Harper took a few steps closer to the woman and baby, "Can I play with him?"

That question caught Lixxie off guard, who had never before thought about cheating anyone... or anything, for that matter. "Sunny, then, if you're sure" she said agreeably, sitting down on one of the large plastic steps on a detailed 'mountainside' leading to a higher slide.
"And of course you may," she added to Harper. "Just be careful, okay?"

"Always careful." Harper said, lying through his teeth. He grinned at Carlisle and waved at him, "Hey, err, dude! Wanna go on the big one with me?" He motioned to the bigger slide, while holding out his arms.
Sunny nodded, and took a seat on a bench. He stared around for a few moments, feeling an awkward need to make conversation. "So.. uh.. where.. are you from?" He asked the other guardian.

Carlisle Mephisto smiled up at Harper and nodded enthusiastically. He'd been wanting someone to ask him that for hours. The little slide was getting boring! The little boy reached upwards, obviously clamoring to be picked up.
"Oh... I go to college a few blocks from here. Arcane theory." She decided not to go into the entire 'thrown-from-world-due-to-polar-differences' thing, not only because she was forbidden but also because it confused even her. "What about you?"

Harper grinned and picked the little boy up, struggling a little with his unexpected weight. He had to remember kids weren't the weight of stuffed animals. "Alright, here we go dude." He said, slowly working his way up the playground to get to the top of the slide. "Your mom's kinda a worry-wart, ain't she?"
Sunny gave her a look, a little surprised. Hey, maybe they had more in common than he thought. "Arcane theory?" He asked, sounding more interested than he had this entire time thus far. "What do you mean? Oh, I uh.. I play guitar in a band." Bardic guitar from another realm!

He nodded firmly. Indeed, she was! He felt bad for agreeing so whole-heartedly, but it was true. "Are," Carlisle Mephisto said, nodding again. "Are, are, are."
"Well... how magic works. How mages work. A lot of interesting things..." She settled against the green plastic, thinking. "I think I have a test on Thursday..." But the mention of the guitar distracted her; Lixxie leaned forward and asked, "Really? What genre?" Something about her seemed a little forced at that, almost as if she had to work up the will to be visibly enthused.

Harper snorted, "Well, if it makes you feel better, my mother's a total freak." He got to the slide and sat down carefully, trying to keep him and the little kid balanced. Sitting, he put one around the baby, and nodded, "Ready for the most dangerous thing you've ever done in your life?!"
Sunny blinked a few times and shifted in his seat. "Uh.. whatever we feel like, whatever sells. Pop, rock, pop rock.. metal, new age, even did electronica a few times but that didn't call for my skills that much, obviously." He shook his head, "I just play guitar." He repeated again, uncomfortably. "Well. I hope you do well on your test. Magic is a bit overrated, if you ask me." He said in a flat tone, sounding quite seperated.

"Must be fun, not to have to really answer to anyone. Arcane theory, there's all kinds of laws and regulations and stuff," Lixxie said, her voice becoming distracted. But she quickly brightened again. "But music, huh? That's gotta be exciting."
Carlisle Mephisto nodded enthusiastically, waving his arms around. "Lesgo," he cried happily, eyes bright with excitement.
