Shane sat playing with Pyren in their new temporary apartment. Pyren hadn't taken to the adjustment well, and was constantly complaining about the new arrangement.

"It's only for a little while longer Pyren, I promise," he'd say.

It took a while though, to the point where Shane thought that he'd have to just leave and take whatever cruel punishment Demitriov had in store for him, until the day came when the letter arrived for Shane to pick up his Sylph from within the compound.

Deciding to take Pyren with him, he went out to where he was supposed to meet somebody to take him to where his Sylph was waiting.

Nikita was in the entry room, as he always was when awaiting guardians to come and pick up their children. This one made him a bit on the nervous side, he had to admit...he hadn't met the guardian, after all. This had been on a day Dmitriev had been covering for him.

Hopefully Dmitriev hadn't terrorized the man too much. He really needed to find a better replacement for those days.

The little girl - who had yet to be named, of course - was in the room as well.

Setting off around the compound, it took Shane a little longer than he thought to figure out exactly where it was he had to go. Eventually however, he found his way to the entry room.

Shane was rather surprised to find a different, and seemingly more pleasant boy waiting for him. He looked like he was probably one of those kids who was picked on a lot simply for their glasses, when they were young.

He didn't stand looking at the older boy for long though because his eyes had no choice but to shift over towards the girl standing next to him, who's pink hair seemed to radiate energy unto itself. It made Shane wonder if he had any gum on him, but then realized that the girl probably didn't need any more sugar the way she was eagerly looking around at everything. Meanwhile, Pyren tiredly stared at the pink-haired girl, not really understanding what exactly was going on.

"Hello," Shane started "I think I was supposed to come down here to pick up a Sylph or something like that? Is that it?" he said motioning towards the girl.

"I'm N-nikita. Sorry for not being here to g-greet you on your appointment day; I was sick, so a c-coworker took over for me."

And knowing Dmitriev, probably either infuritated or terrified Shane. He tended to do one or the other.

"Yes, this is her."

The pink haired girl certainly seemed like a bundle of energy; hopefully this man would be up for it. And hopefully that boy with him wouldn't get run over; the boy certainly did look sleepy enough.

At the memory of how he was greeted on his arrival, Shane pursed his lips together and took a deep breath and sighed. He'd nearly forgotten how much of a jerk Dmitriev had been.

"Oh, so it was your fault that I had to meet that guy?" Shane half-joked as he approached Nikita and the girl, "I was starting to worry that everyone around here treated this place like it was a concentration camp."

The unnamed girl looked from Nikita, to Pyren, to Shane, as wondering what it was she should do now. Her eyes soon became transfixed on the boy with the electric blue skin and bright purple hair.

Pyren tiredly tilted his head to one side as he noticed the girl's focus on him. He blinked his eyes trying to become more awake, but it wasn't working. He was too low on energy, electrical or citrus in nature. He blamed the crazy man and Shane for both of this. Pyren had already pushed this issue enough with Shane over the course of the week so, he instead fixed his tired gaze upon the the girl who was staring at him.

Nikita let out an awkward laugh, unsure of whether or not that was actually a joke. He didn't know whether to apologize, or laugh. So he went the safe route, and did both.

"I'm s-sorry about that...Dmitriev was the only one who c-could replace me, that day."

Actually, he didn't know if that was true - the higher ups had picked his replacement. He had to assume though, that if Dmitriev was his replacement, there really weren't any better options.

Rubbing nervously at his bandaged hands, he hoped Shane wasn't really upset about that - he didn't like having to make excuses for Dmitriev. Because any excuses he made were inevitably false; Dmitriev was just...Dmitriev.

"It's alright, don't worry about it. Seriously." Shane said. Wow, this kid was nervous, he thought. He felt like it was probably a good time to change the subject.

"Anyways, what now?" Shane asked, "The jer...I mean Dmitriev said something about me possibly talking to some higher ups about me getting a portal from my house to the complex. It's really important that I have access to that property, not just for me but Pyren as well; but I heard that you need to keep me under surveillance or something weird like that."

At the same time, the girl with the pink hair decided to try and move towards the luminescent boy. The boy looked like he was lonely and that nobody around there was paying any mind to him except for her. Slowly and awkwardly she moved towards him, not having much use with her new legs, to get an even closer look...even though nothing changed. She was already able to see every part of him, including the fact that the boy's skin was completely different than anybody else's there.

Now this girl was really weirding Pyren out. She was like one of those scary groaning things that ate people like out of those movies his dad watched, and always told him not to though he snuck a few glances now and then. Instinctively, Pyren got up and ran closer to Shane just in case this girl was going to eat him.

Shane noticed Pyren's behavior of running away from a stranger was really odd, and the girl seemed to be approaching him still, just more cautiously.

"Hey Pyren, she's not going to hurt you," Shane said with a chuckle. "You just want to play with him right?"

The girl was completely unresponsive to Shane's words. He scratched his beard curiously, and then dismissed the thought, and turned back to face Nikita.

Nikita's stutter wasn't neccesarily because of his nerves - although it did get worse when the more nervous he got; he always stuttered, even when he didn't feel nervous at all. But he did get nervous very easily, that was true.

"N-not you...her," Nikita nodded towards the sylph, "They're n-new, so we need to be c-careful, in case anything unexpected happens. That's why we n-need the guardians to live on the compound."

Then the blonde paused, and thought about the rest of what Shane had said.

"Ah...I never heard anything about this p-portal.." Dmitriev had probably either 'forgotten' - or just didn't bother with it all. Leaving it entirely up to Nikita - again. Great.

Now he'd have to go argue another case to the higher ups...they'd been angry enough at him last time.

"I'll t-talk to the higher ups. Until then, you c-can live at your home - I'll send a n-note when we get the portal set up."

"Fantastic."Shane sighed in relief. He now, for certain, liked Nikita over Dmitriev, because at least Nikita tried. "If something comes up that I can't handle myself I'll make sure you're the first one to know then." Then turning to Pyren Shane said.

"Hey Pyren, that means we can go home today...and come out from behind me already. That girl's your brother or sister I was telling you about. "

At the words that Niki and Shane spoke, Pyren seemed to immediately find where his excess of energy had been hiding and rushed over to Nikita and hugged his leg tightly.

"Thank you!" Pyren exclaimed, before rushing a little more cautiously over to the girl with the pink hair. He sized her up a little more closely now.
"You coming home with us? Erm...sis?" he asked.

The girl watched as the boy ran over to the tall man, and then back to her. She watched his mouth move too, and she did the same for fun. Then she went back to looking him over, when finally, she found something interesting. Besides the electric green scar on his eye, she also found that there were some blinking lights on very finite buttons on the boy's neck. Reaching ever so carefully, she pushed the big one in the middle. It lit up and the lights inside it began flashing and spinning so finely that she found herself mesmerized by the button.

Even Pyren wasn't expecting what happened to him next. He'd never had anyone else touch the play button on him without his knowing. Perhaps it was because he was so shocked by the girl's odd movement and unresponsiveness that the noise that was made was a direct reflection of that.

Shane watched, wide eyed as the girl moved to press the button on Pyren's collar. Weird things usually happened whenever somebody did, and this time what came out of Pyren's now automated vocal chords was a very loud, hollow, throbbing re verb sound that made both he and Shane cover their ears tightly. The girl on the other hand, didn't even flinch at the noise and continued to stare intently at Pyren's collar.

It took a couple seconds for Pyren to finally react, and press the button again to stop the noise. He then ran a few paces back away from the girl, in case she tried to do it again.

"Sowwy," Pyren said "Din't mean it."

The girl with the pink hair frowned and folded her arms in disappointment as the blinking lights were taken away from her. She stood there pouting and glared at the boy slightly for ruining her fun.

After all that was done with, Nikita had an odd expression on his face. The girl had never said a single word the entire time she'd been waiting with him...and she hadn't responded to anything she'd said.

And just now, she had been the only one not affected by that noise.

So, he decided to try something.

In the quiet of that moment, he clapped his hands together once, loudly, to see if she would respond.

The Sylphs had enhanced and problematic senses, so it wouldn't surprise him if she had hearing problems. Although he didn't have any idea what her enhanced sense was....what surprised him was just that nobody had either noticed yet - or that they just hadn't told him. Which was remarkably stupid.

Nikita's odd reaction of clapping his hands together, made Shane look up at him with a confused expression, then slowly realizing what it was for, he transfered his gaze with the same expression to the girl.

After being shaken up by his own vocal chords, the loud sound of Nikita's clapping made Pyren jump. He then began to look at Nikita and the strange girl in progression, trying to figure out what was going on.

The girl with the pink hair noticed that everybody's eyes were on her. Good. She smiled and looked up at them hoping she'd get some recognition of showing how cool the flashing button was...or at least get to touch it again.

"Her hearing."

Nikita knew, from her reaction - or lack there-of - to the clap, that her impaired sense had to be hearing. There was no other possibility; it just surprised him that the ones who had been around her before their brought her here hadn't realized.

Glancing at Shane, he flushed, and then went to explain exactly what he had meant.

"Her imp-impaired sense...her hearing. She isn't c-completely deaf, but close to it."

Hopefully Shane hadn't been left in the dark about that, too; that was something that he usually explained. But as Dmitriev had spoken with this guardian, he couldn't be sure if that was covered.

It took Shane a little while before he realized that Nikita had said anything, then to make sense of it...or what little sense that he could.

"An i-impaired sense? Is...this normal or something?" now it was Shane's turn to stutter. This was a weird turn of events to be sure.

Pyren, realizing that whatever it was Nikita was saying was more grown up talk, instantly became uninterested with whatever it was that they were saying. Clearly he wasn't in any trouble, but he wasn't going to let his sister touch his collar again.

Pyren moved over towards the girl with authority, even though she was a little bigger than him, he was going to take charge of this situation.

"No! Don't touch!" he said firmly while putting one hand to his neck and shaking his head sternly.

The girl with the pink hair hadn't been around for too long, but she knew at least that when people shook their head like that, it meant that they didn't like something, and when the boy did it to her, it made her feel like she'd done something wrong. Now she felt sad, she didn't want to make the boy upset...but she really really liked the flashing lights. Not really sure what to do, she quickly exhaled and decided that it'd be better not to touch the flashing lights any more today.

"D-didn't Dmitriev explain?"

Oh no. Oh no...please don't tell him that Dmitriev hadn't explain about their senses. Most guardians were a bit uncomfortable with it, even when forewarned - how would a guardian who had no idea react?

"The sylphs h-have an impaired sense and an enhanced o-one...he was s-supposed to explain t-to you about them."

His eyes had gone large as he realized Shane didn't know, and his stutter grew slightly worse; he was just hoping Shane didn't get angry about it. Or refuse to take her - no guardians had done such a thing so far, but...well, no guardian'd had this sprung on them so late, either.

At least the children seemed to be working better together.

"No," Shane said, as he crossed his arms slowly transfered his gaze from Nikita back to the little girl "he didn't."

The girl with the pink hair now looked up at the man with the darker hair and found him looking at her now, with a stern expression on his face, and she began to feel very small and meek. She had learned her lesson already: Don't push the shiny pretty button. So why was everyone still looking at her like she'd done something wrong? The girl soon found that she couldn't take all the negative stares anymore, so she turned away from the group and tried to pretend they didn't exist. What did any of them know about having fun?

Wow. Pyren didn't mean to make the girl upset. He just didn't want her pressing the button on his collar without his consent, less something worse happen than a re verb noise. Pyren put the side of his index finger in his mouth and thought about what to do about making his new sister happy. She liked pressing the button he guessed...enough to ignore the horrible sound that came out of him. So, he guessed that it'd be fine if she were to press it if he could guarantee that there wouldn't be an unexpected noise that came out of him. With the idea in mind, Pyren ran over to where the girl was facing and grabbed her by the hand and had her finger press the button. This time, however, instead of re verb coming out of his vocal chords, Pyren decided to play a premeditative recording of him laughing.

The girl with the pink hair didn't have time to react to the electric colored boy's actions, but suddenly she realized that the flashing lights were back, and he was smiling, and she felt his vocal chords move as he laughed. The girl was so happy that as she smiled, something escaped from her vocal chords as well. She couldn't tell what exactly it was, but it certainly felt good to do, as that part of her body felt sore for not being used. As she watched the lights spin around and around, she decided to let her vocal chords wobble again, just for fun, and then stopped just to look, fixedly on the spinning lights.

He stood there for a while, watching as Pyren and the girl laughed away and almost instantly, any small amount of doubt of this engagement not working out was put aside. They were both good kids, and if Pyren had no problem with her hearing impairment, then Shane had no trouble with it either. Not that he had any major problem with it beforehand, he was just concerned about whether or not it would mean any more or less trouble around the house.

Walking slowly towards the pair, Shane looked down at them and smiled.

"It's no problem Nikita," he said "It's just an impaired sense. She seems like a good girl, and besides, I'd feel horrible if I had to leave her here with creeps like Dmitriev." Shane joked before addressing Pyren

"When you're done Pyren, it's time for us to go home."

Pyren looked at Shane and nodded. He really did want to get back home, but he decided to entertain his sister a little while longer before finally stopping the recording.

The girl frowned when the lights stopped spinning, but she sort of understood that the boy might have had enough of the lights flashing. He had been standing still for so long that he was probably getting tired. It was at this moment though, that Erika found that she, herself, was the tired one, and she yawned.

Shane was just about ready to start to leave, when he realized something rather important, which he voiced to Nikita.

"Umm...any idea how I'm supposed to tell her that she's supposed to come home with me?"
