A pale white lion stood quietly reflecting on a tall scrubby tree seemed to stand along. Small claw marks covered different areas at crossing angles. This was his childhood in essence, this was where he grew up. He lifted one of his paws gingerly and placed it ontop of the small claw marks and sighed.
"Will I ever know what it is like to be that happy again?" he whispered and looked up at the wilting leaves. This tree was a testiment to every important moment in his life, he had been climbing it when he met Wahabu and Boma'burudi, two very important people in his life..but now it looked so little..would it even sustain his weight? Not wanting to look like a fool infront of everyone he took a quick glance around and started to climb.
His paws slipped momentarily but he seemed to get the hang of it as he climbed upwards but before he made it to the first real branch he slipped. "Ugh, this is rediculous, trying to reclaim my youth? Really Kubwa!" He thought of teaching Tetemeko, his son to climb here, that'd be much easier than trying to rekindle something silly.

This trip to the Pridelands had started off so exciting, especially for little explorers like Janja and her sisters- but it was very slowly losing it's appeal the longer her family stayed by the border and were told to try not to get themselves caught by someone who might figure out they were family. Not to mention it'd been harder to get her usual more-than-willing partners-in-crime to tag along! Janja was not particularly pleased with that, and having found her time spent exploring and talking with locals to be a good deal of fun.. she was off in search of something else of that fashion to do.
Her wandering didn't lead her anywhere in particular, but when she caught sight of a bright white figure in the distance she decided to go get a closer look. Intombi and Simi had been fun, outlook was good that whoever this was would be at least friendly! She made no effort to hide that she was nearby and approaching, though she did notice that the white lion's attention seemed to be more on the tree he was near. Janja was, however, a little surprised to see him suddenly try to climb up the tree.
She stopped moving closer. It wasn't that the concept was new to her, she'd grown up in the Jungle trying to do the same thing- but that tree didn't look quite right for him to try to scale. Hesitating for a moment longer when he returned to the ground, she decided to go closer- even if she left now she doubted he'd miss seeing her walk away, and would know she'd seen him.

He decided that his best course of action would be to go and collect Tetemeko from his mother and drag him back and show him to climb. That boy spent too much time on the gound, and in the dirt! Something that reminded him too much of Boma. With one last glance at the tree he inhaled and started to move, catching sight of a something black with accents of yellow.
"Wha-- who're you?" he asked rudely, "I was well..umm.." he wanted to explain his weird actions, what if she had seen him trying to scale the tree. It wasn't that big, and he probably looked awefully silly because of the size differences. He smirked to himself, a father and he still wants to impress young girls!

Janja came to a stop again when it was obvious she'd been spotted, but fortunately she was rather close- certainly within plain earshot. No need to yell to hear or be heard. She offered a friendly smile when Kubwa stammered to explain what she'd witnessed, trying to show it was ok and he didn't need to explain.
"My name is Janja, I'm visiting from the Jungle," she introduced herself brightly, and considered explaining why she said that (in hopes he'd realize she wasn't alien to tree-climbing) but instead sought a return introduction, "What's your name?"

"It's a pleasure to meet you, I'm Kubwa, and I was born her," and for the first time in his life he did his mother's little head bob, "I hope that you're finding the Pride to your liking. My mother moved her when she was young."
She didn't laugh at him, that was a start at making a new aquaintance, "There must be some pretty big trees in the jungle, right? Or you might think I'm some foolish old man, climbing trees." he chuckled warmly. At least someone that was nice had snuck up on him, and not someone like his brother who would laugh.

Janja beamed when Kubwa said he'd been born here- another pride member for certain then. It was so easy to find them, and he certainly seemed to conform to the standard she'd imagined for the locals. "Everyone is very friendly here," she commented brightly, and vaguely thought of how if it was true then her family shouldn't be so worried about getting closer and closer and just confronting their grandmother or whoever was here.
"There are, much better for trying to climb," she said with a quiet laugh, "Though I've never been much for climbing, I was too busy with other things to take advantage of the opportunity to learn. I don't think it's a foolish idea at all."

"here, is the perfect place to raise a family, because of everyone being so nice," he paused wanting to explain, "My son, Tetemeko, was born here, and right now it's just him and I, and a few memebers of my family. But, he has found many friends his age and that makes me very happy." His ears perked at the thought of trees that would be big enough to bear his weight, how amazing would that be? But, he could never pull Tete away from his friends and family, afterall if they did leave it would just be those two. He wished suddenly he would have had more children.
"I'm glad you don't think it's foolish, did you come with family, then?"

Janja listened attentively to what Kubwa told her, it was certainly a very different perspective than the others she'd met. A rogue who was going to join, a cub and now a family lion. There really were all sorts, and all were friendly. She was a little surprised to hear he had a son, he didn't look old enough to have a son- but then, she knew he COULD, so perhaps he did.
"I did come with my family, my mother was born here and went away with my father to the jungle," she explained brightly, "I have to wonder why they didn't stay here, if it's such a nice place for family. I've certainly met more friendly lions here than in the Jungle, though I've met a couple friendly leopards- and one not so friendly.."

"Well, I hope that you can stay if you find this place appealing, it's what most lions dream of a land full of family and friends," he beamed, he did live in the best place in the world, there had been hard times, the king being killed..but things seemed better now. Besides, where else would he be able to meet so many gods?
"In the very spot we are standing, I met my best friend, he's the brightest yellow you'll ever find a lion," he chuckled at the thought of finding more than one Wahabu or Mtima, she wasn't exactly the same blinding color. He blushed suddenly, he was telling a complete stranger about his life like it was nothing! This female was pretty and young, but not someone he should be baring his soul too.

"I'd like to stay, but more than that I would like to arrive," she said, sounding a little frustrated and explaining, "My family is living on the borders and not really coming too close because we're so nervous about seeing estranged family or something." Janja had no worries about telling this to a perfect strange, he was nice enough. She wrinkled her nose in amusement at the idea of asking him if she happend to look like anyone he knew. She wasn't really going to hunt for family without her parents.
"This spot?" she repeated, looking around them with a smile, "I suppose that's part of why you're around here? My favorite places to go are like that."

"Well, I hope that at time you get your wish," he thought it was quite odd to come to a place but be affraid to enter, "Maybe you should..just find the family? You were brave enough to walk right up to me. That seems a bit odd, no offense, of course."
He started another one of his mother's favorite things to do, pace. It was not out of restlessness, or even aggitation, it was just something he had seen done and something he was used to. "Yep, right here I met Wahabu, I havn't seen him in awhile, it would do many lions some good to search him out." Maybe he could find Waha a girlfriend? This little lady seemed nice, well unless Waha already had a girl...this he doubted.

"I would, but I respect my mother's wish to get up the courage herself," she replied with a small shrug, though it wasn't entirely honest to say just that, "I don't even know what they look like, or their names. I couldn't look if I wanted to." She looked Kubwa up and down, and decided it would be very unlikely that he was a family member- just as she'd thought from the distance. There'd be something to show it, wouldn't there? Gold and spotty like mom, maybe.
"I didn't mind walking right up to you because you don't look like any member of my family, not as I imagine anyway," she explained with a small shrug, "and I've noticed and been told that everyone here is friendly. Why should I worry about it?"
She laughed a little at his mention of Wahabu.
"See, you even suggest meeting your friends," she pointed out with a smile, "Surely it's not common to run into rude lions around here or the reputation would not be so good."

"Ahh, my mother is one of those stubborn females that goes for what ever she wants...even if it hurts people," he nodded slightly and faultered, he only had his feelings hurt once and he had deserved it greatly, "I hope she gets the courage, and I suppose we couldn't be family. My mother and father don't look a thing like you...theirs no black in my family or yellow."
"I suppose you're very right, I think we're a great Pride, someday I'd like to see others, but with a young son.."

"I don't expect there's much white in my mother's side of the family, either," she agreed as he explained how there was no black or gold in his family, "I'd find it surprising, though mom does have some white on her." White was not an uncommon color, so that meant very little. Kubwa had a sort of strange hue to him, perhaps it was the marking on his leg, but it wasn't quite the same. No, they were most probably unrelated.
"You can't take your son travelling with you?" she asked, tilting her head. It wasn't a strange idea, she'd known her mother and father had travelled before they had them, but then stopped when they did. However, Janja herself wasn't so sure it was impossible! She could handle it, she bet.

"As far as I know all my family is either here or dead," he wrinkled his nose thinking about Dawa, the uncle he was named for. He new that both grandmothers were dead, and he knew that mother had no family besides mother, so no, it was impossible.
"Traveling with one so young wound be far too hard, besides, I know he must have friends, and why would I want to tear him away from the little family that we do have? When he gets close to his teenage years I may ask his thoughts on the matter, he's a smart boy, already smarter than me." the idea that his son would outgrow him in all areas wasn't a bad one, he wanted that.
