I was looking through feministing like I do every day and found this post: http://feministing.com/archives/007480.htmlIt talks about how they're trying to pass a bill in Ohio that a woman needs a man's permission to obtain an abortion. If you don't know who the man is, you basically can't get one unless you prove you were raped! I don't think this has been posted but if it has, I am sorry for reposting it. It pisses me off and I really don't have anything else to say about it. Discuss!

Supreme Court has already ruled this unconstitutional.
If such a law is passed it will be taken to the courts and likely overthrown before ever even getting to the supreme court. Should it get to the supreme court, I can only hope they have half a brain to keep it unconstitutional.

Constitutionality aside, how is this even ENFORCEABLE? If there's any question of paternity, how do you find out who signs it? Do both parties have to sign, or just one? Is there a special prenatal test they can do? Or is there even any way to prove regardless and so the man involved just becomes whoever she's willing to own up to? I see the following happening if it ever comes to that: Quote: Lady: Here's my form. Clerk: . . . it's signed by your son. Lady: Your point?

Wow....Thats just...for lack of better words retarded. I wonder, why do they say you need a man's permission to get an abortion, but they will force you to have a child on your own because they consider you a slut?

I don't understand how any logical person can believe that some man should have the authority to keep another person from seeking medical treatment just because they had sex (at least) once. Assuming, of course, that the man referred to is the alleged father.

What country do we live in again? Exactly what I was wondering. It's eerily similar to the Muslim law that females cannot act as witnesses because they're "too emotional." I hope the people of Ohio see this law for what it is. I'd hate to think an entire state is that stupid.

There are no words to express my anger. Why, oh why, oh why, oh . . . why would you ever do that, Ohio?
(please God, please let someone get the musical theater reference)

It took me hours to just calm down long enough to post in this thread.
I am so PISSED OFF. I have relatives in Ohio, and this makes me worried about my aunt/cousin.
I hope this fails miserably enough to make people never even THINK of bringing this up again.
Have I ever said in this guild how glad I am I live in Oregon?

It's not only the emotional factor, they actual say that they're 'scientists' have proved that the female brain is smaller then the male brain, so females do not comprehend or understand situations like 'males' do. rolleyes

The body size:brain size ratio is identical for men and women, and the surface area (the most important thing) is also the same. The weight of the brain has little to do with cognative abilities. Anyone who says otherwise is a hack with an agenda to push.

This is a stupid law, again showing the hypocrisy of most Pro-Lifers... Anti-woman through and through.

im reiterating the point of "how the hell could this be enforced". I would just get a guy friend to sign it.
On the other hand... i can understand the er..."logic?" behind it. I do believe that the would-be-father should have some say... but it of course shouldnt extend any further than how he and the would-be-mother agree to handle the situation. and of course women should Always have veto power either way.
Isnt it possible though, through the courts in some areas for a man to keep a woman from having an abortion? It seems to me that Ive read about a guy who got the court to issue a restraining order on his wife because she was going to have one and he didnt want to... Did I just make this up or was this something that happened.
