The jet black male slipped down the beach upon silent paws, the sun had risen hours ago but he was searching for something beneath the waves. His long black thick mane whipped about his face blocking his vision on occassion. It was days like today when he wondered endlessly why he was plagued with this large and rather fluffy mane. He chuckled, he knew full well he wouldn't be happy without it and he also knew that his lady love adored the large ring of fluff which bordered his black and white marked face.

He paused abruptly , one paw raised as he dove in to the water emerging wet, his mane plastered to his face but he was triumphant, a large fish flapped about in his jaws. this was why he was out here, his deep blood red mate was resting amongst the rocks where he had taken up residence, close enough to the pride to continue his initiation, but far enough away that he did not interrupt the daily comings and goings of the pride in to which he wished to belong. Still a lion eneded to eat and this was the best place to fish.

Padding up the beach he flickered his mane before he slammed the fish down upon an aptly placed rock, breaking it's spine and putting it out of it's missery. He grinned, this was the ideal type of food, a nice big tuna ready for the eating. Before he could return to the injured female though he ahd to groom himself. He was not usually a vein beast, but the return of the female had turned his mind to grooming and looking his best for her. Comeing back with his fur plastered to his face would make him look more akin to a drowned rat than a large, protecting lion which was how he wished to be seen by Khepri.

Sitting he started to groom his maw, fluffing out his mane cleaning away the salty residue which lay there from his head first dive in to the waves.

"Oi, yer wast'n yer time, mate! No way you'll get all the salt out," came a young voice from a bit of a ways off. A black and white cub bounced into view, her paws light and quick upon the sand's shifting surface. She had been playing in a bunch of tall rocks down the beach a bit and had seen his fishing job. "Mighty fine fish'n job that was!" she giggled her maw spreading into a fox-like grin as she finally came to stand before him, peering with great curiousity with her big green eyes.

The jet black male looked around, his coal black eyes peering through the flock of mane which currantly lay in a rather beddraggled manner over those onyx coloured eyes. Grinning broadly he flicked his head freeing those eyes of hair and giving a cheeky wink to the youngster. "Aye lassy, i be thinkin ye be right bu' I reacon i can be a tryin' ta straighten oot this ere mess of 'air." he chuckled, his thick accent cheerful and roguish.

Shifting that large youthful body around to look down at the young female he tilted his large wide set head and gave a little friendly growl. "Tha' names Nahodha'kota, though most folks jus' be callin' me 'kota lil kippa. Ooh might you be lassy? Do ye capn' and firs' mate be a knowin' ye be out an' about roamin' tha sea?" He lowered himself in to a crouch then, his face turned in a broad cheerful grin, even laying down, nahodha'kota was huge, he had long grown beyond the size of his siblings and even beyond the size of his father, somewhere in his history he had gained a gigantic gene, he could look father forebodeing, jet black bar for the flash of white which ran through his nose and the pale bands upon his tail, but he was far from a dangerous beast, a slight rogue to be sure, but he was true, sweet and friendly, always willing to talk to a wee lassy whom admired his sea fareing skills.

"But the salt'll just stick it up in all manner a ways afterwards, so if ya got a pretty lady ta impress you'd best wait til it's dry and then try yer luck again," Miri said, prancing a bit to the side and then reaching out with a paw to swat at his fuzzy mane. She then strutted back a bit, so that she could see him more fully. Or perhaps to give her more of a spotlight, so to speak.

"The name's Mirija, but Miri suits me jus' fine, it does," She swished her tail slightly, giving a small tilt of her head, "And aye, me ma and pa know where I've gone. I don't go far from the sea anyhow."

"I think ye be right lil lassy, I'll be a sittin' ere fer a bit then. I'm sure i can fin' summit to be a keepin' me amused." he chuckled again looking at the little female as she strutted about, clearly she was a confident little thing, used to the sea and the waves. A cub of the sea.

"Ah ye be of tha sea pride then lassy? I shoulda bin' a guessin' ye be smellin' 'o' tha salt ov tha sea." He grinned in an extremely handsome manner, "Ye jus' be careful lassy if ye be a goin ta tha sea, it can be mighty dan'drus to youngins, even those bron aside tha sea shore." He waved his long thick tail as he spoke, quite enjoying the young ones playful antics. He could certainly see little cubs of his own one day, but not any time soon. He wanted to wait until Khepri was ready, until she was well and they were settled in to a pride where their young would be safe. "Tha's a mightily pretty name ye got thar lassy, ye command be mightly good wit thar namein'"

"Yes suh, we're sea folk we are. 'Cept Ma and Pa. Ma says she come from a place where there bones all 'round and all shadows and the like. Pa won't talk 'bout where he come from. Figure it must have been a pretty strange place one way o' nother," she gabbed, obviously loving the attention.

She cocked her head at his comment about the sea before turning her green eyes out to look at it for herself. "'Course the sea's dangerous, but ya can normally tell when its angry. It's right calm now. But ya still gotta 'spect it else it'll take ye even when it's all quiet like." She had been here all of her short little life. Reading the waves was every-day life for her.

The dark eyed 'kota couldn't help but chuckle, this little cub, still a child and full of the worldly wisdom that cubs had of stateing the obvious. "Fae tha' bone yard ey? I bout came fae tha lan' tha borders a lan 'o' bones call tha pri'lands, tha sea she callt me ere tho an na I'ma settlin' in ta call tha san's me 'ome." He lifts his head then the salty breeze rustling his jet black mane making it cascade over his eyes and pale nose before he swished his head to remove it from his vision.

Crossing his huge fore paws over he gave a gentle sigh "'Opefully ye prids leaders will let an ol salty dog like me in. I fancy a livin' in a pri' bin used ta doin' it mah whole life I as. A pri' by tha sea, tis like a dream come true ya know?" He grinned roguishly at the little lioness "Ay lass, ye know all bouts tha waves, ye be a seafarein critter ah can see tha. You jus' be careful. Tha seas a beautiful an angry mistress ta mess wit."

"I know whu she's like, suh, doncha worry 'bout me," Miri insisted with a grin to match his. She puffed up a little, as if to show exactly how brave and wise she was. She then strutted a bit to the left, continuing, "Well I do hope they let ya in, cause that'd be right prime it would. I'ma think'n they will though 'cause there are so many of us little 'ons her round that more big grown ups would be much appreciated, or so I'm think'n." After all there were a lot of cubs around here...her many siblings and then some other litters that were born here or came later.

The shadowy male chuckled happily at the little cubs statements. She was cute, he liked cubs, they were always so, well they stated the obvious alot. He always liked that about cubs. He watched the youngster curcle about in her full of the wisdm of the world manner and couldn't help but imagine one day seeing his own daughters and sons strutting about on the sands. That time was avery long time away thoiugh. With Khepri still weak from her fight she would not be fit for bearing cubs for a very long time to come.

'Kota could dream though, a future by the sea, a part of the pride, his and khepris cubs running around playing in the sea. He could hear his own voice scolding to be careful, yet he was unable to wipe the grin off of his proud maw. Shaking his large head he returned to the present day and the youngster before him. "Well lassy, I'm most willin' ta help out wit ye littluns an i'm bout biggeenuff ta guard tha shore. Ah'm certainly opin' ye gapn' an firs' mate o this ere pri' be allowin me an me mate ta join. We be needin' a safe place ta call ome."

"I bet ya could guard with Pa, you could! He's bigger than ya, but it don't matter that much 'cause you're still right big and all!" She nodded her head, tilted her head a little as if to show how she had to look up at him to see him properly. She grinned, "When ya gonna ask 'em? The Capin', as you said, is prolly around...this pride isn't so big that we all go a wandering off and such." She knew that her parents made it clear which part of the lands were theirs to roam in. Which was just fine with her...plenty of the shore to explore!

'Kota chuckled lightly his dark tail swaying through the sand. "Well lassy I ave met tha lord roun' ere I be jus' a waitin ' ta see if me an' me mate are suitable ta join tha pri'. Can be difficult when ya aint well known. I'm certinly 'opin' 'ell let us join though, twould be nice. Mah mates kinda sick at tha momen' she requires lotsa rest, she would undoubtedly preciate some female company from tha pride."

He smiles brightly turning his attention back to the fish he had caught giving up all but completely on his thick damp mane. "I be needin' ta get this lil fellah back ta mah mate now lassy, be ye okay out ere on ya self or do ye need me ta take ye back up ta tha rocks?"

"Ya lady's sick, suh?" Miri asked, looking surprised. She finally stopped her prancing about, looking rather wide eyed. For all her bravado, she was a very friendly and loving girl. She didn't know his lady friend, but he was nice enough. "What she got ail'n her?" she asked, sounding concerned and intersted all at once. Though she quickly stiffled her assertive nature when he commented he needed to leave, "Aye, that's right, best get to that then. I'll be right fine, thank ya suh!"

'Kota smiled lightly and gave the cub a gentle nod. "Aye lass, she wus ina fight an' she din't come off too good, she be healin quickly though. 'Opefully ye can meet 'er one day, she's bout as big as me though she be the colour of fire." He grinned then and lifted a paw to pat the cub on the head. "Ye be careful lassy, I be spectin' ye ta come an' visit me. I be stayin in one 'o' tha dens by ta jungle wit me missus." He chuckled gently and strething out his body he lifted the fish he had caught in his jaws.

Giving the cub a final nod he headed on up the bach. Khepri could snack on this for the moment until he went hunting for something from the jungle later. He was sort of excited to tell khepri about the young female he had met while out on his fishing trip. She made him dream of his own future cubs, one day when Khepri was well, they would have younguns of their own.
