Ok well, I'm 17, and I've had my period for about 3 years.
This month, my period has been strange. -It's about a week late. Now, that's not usually a big deal for me because it's often late. I just thought I'd mention it.
-I didn't show my normal PMS symtoms; I usually get cramps, and pimples. Nothing. Not that I'm complaining.
-I normally start off heavy and it gets lighter. For the first two days, it was so light it was almost non existant. (I'm on the third day.)
-It comes out really dark, I know that's normal because blood looks like that when it drys. It came out like that though, as though it was sitting there, then came out.
Something that might have contributed to it: -I went camping for about a week: different foods, bad sleeping patterns, staying up late, out in the sun all day, dehidration.
Do things like that aftect your period that much? If I was just late, it wouldn't be a big deal. I just don't understand the colour and the flow. I've never had a spotting before. Is that what it is? I didn't think I would get a spotting if it was late.

Women can have irregular periods for years, before they get anywhere close to 'normal'. Some women never have regular periods confused
It sounds to me like it's normal. If you're sexually active you might want to take a pregnancy test. If not, I really wouldn't worry about it unless you're usually regular.
Personally, I don't have regular periods naturally. Mine sound exactly like yours actually. I have to take the Pill in order for my periods to be regular.

I have been having similar issues except that every other period is extremely heavy, as if it has to make up for being as light, the last time. O.o How long have you been having your period? Depending on how long you've been menstruating, you might want to set up an appointment with a gynocologist. It might not be anything horrible (in my case, it isn't, luckily), but it's always a good idea to be safe.

Yes, eating different foods, not sleeping well, being dehydrated and out in the sun all day could definitely be the reason for all of that.
