Billy hadn't been avoiding people so much as simply not moving. The collar had sucked his enthusasm for just about anything drier and drier with each passing day. At a certain point, he had even given up fishing. Occasionally, in the shallows over his flat, semi-submerged rock, a small fish would swim over to pick at the slight film that had grown over his unwashed and sodden limbs, and he would snatch it up in a sluggish tentacle, but they were often quicker than the seditives allowed his movements. And so his depression continued, pulling him deeper into his head where he could at least recount his memories of being human as though they were some distant dream. had he ever been human? Maybe he had always been here, rotting on this rock.

It had been a while, long enough that when Sid remembered about Billy he felt incredibly guilty for not thinking to check on him sooner. The bottle of Jack Daniels he brought along with him was mostly for himself, but it helped to look like he had some purpose for the visit besides making sure the octopus wasn't dead.

The relief of seeing Billy out on the rock was short lived, as from a distance it didn't look like he was moving at all. Sid picked up the pace a little, but the closest he could get to a run with the cane and his bum knee was an awkward hop. Thankfully there were pills in his pocket just in case he did something stupid like that.

He was panting by the time he reached the rock.

It had been awhile since Alec has mustered he will to leave his duplex and the comfort of the enclosed space. In an empty room he wouldn't have to bother trying to explain his actions or choose his words, not that he had taken up the habit of talking to himself.

The ordeal involving Amaya had caused the normally optimistic and care-free teen to withdraw into his the security of his own presence. He wasn't even sure if he'd be able to look her in the eye ever again, let alone speak to her. Neverthless, he kept his self-hatred and conflicted emotions to himself without once seeking the opinion of another which was odd for someone so dependant on social interaction.

On what felt like another gloomy day for the sharkboy, he found himself walking to the Lake after convincing himself it would be good to bask in the natural waters rather than his bathtub. Distracted and generally careless, he made his way to the water's edge once he'd arrived with no notice of the other presences as he tested the temperature with a dip of his rubber foot.

The octopus had slid back against a rock, partially submurged to stare at the open sky over the lake. He could hear the sounds of the water like a drip drop of chinese water torture. He ignored it. It didn't matter. It wasn't there. He was home in a hot bath in his roach-infested squat-hole. His eyes lulled over to where he had long ago shoved a treebranch into the rocks to hang his backpack from. He stared at the carton of cigarettes poking from the boken zipper, wondering if it was worth lifting his tentacles.

Sid stepped over as close as he could without actually getting in the water. He laid the bottle of Jack aside and very slowly lowered himself to kneel with his good leg. He had to use his cane to keep from falling over in the process, but he managed. He'd be lucky if he could get back up after that, but it seemed wrong to just poke a friend with the cane. Even so, he wasn't going to touch him.

"Hey..." he said. "You, uh, there?"

Sid just barely kept from asking if he was dead.

The sound of Sid's voice barely registered in Alec's head as he walked right off the shoreline of the lake to splosh through the shallows before reaching a drop-off. His legs kicked up waves as he lazily trudged through the medium until it was deep enough that he could partially submerge his grey skin. Better... He exhaled deeply in an exaggerated breath as he enjoyed the cooling sensation, keeping to the far corner of the lake he'd arrived at until the realization that he wasn't alone finally sunk in a delayed reaction.

Grey eyes curiously watched the pair from afar as he waded on the spot, keeping quiet incase he'd jsut happened to chance upon a private meeting between friends.

At the sound of a voice, Billy responded with an upward glance and a delated smile of recognition, "As here s'm'anywhere..." his mouth pulled back around his strange, sharp beaky teeth. "Where're you?"

"I'm here," Sid said slowly. He regretted kneeling, his leg was already starting to hurt, and that was the good one, damn it. "Are you alright? Ss-- Seriously."

He finally settled for swinging his legs around so he could sit without putting pressure on anything, at least after the initial jolt of pain that came with trying to move.

Alec continued to make small laps parallel to land at his own leisure, carefully minding the two without ever considering being considerate enough to mind his own business. His intitial plan was to remain where he was and merely eavesdrop but his relatively poor hearing wasn't aiding him in his task. Not surprisingly, the teen soon found himself giving into to his curiousity as usual as he took a few tentative strokes toward the chatting duo. The sharkboy kept his head awkwardly above the water's surface as he swam, still lacking the common sense to understand the purpose of his gills. Grey eyes were trained on Sid in particular, having an obvious trust in the funny old guy more than the sickly and unfortunate fellow he was speaking to.

His beard was scraggly and eternally wet, his cheaks sunken in under his round, animal eyes grey against his sickly pale skin. "M'alrigh'..." He wasn't alright. "M'jes'... a wee bi' tired. Jes... " He didn't finish, distracted by the cigarettes again in a quiet stupor.

Sid had no idea what constituted a healthy shade on an ocotopus, but the sunken features said enough. Then again, he still wasn't sure what counted as natural there either. Okay, so there was the incredibly sluggish movement, which could have also been the collar.... Damn it, there was inuition, he had that much.

"Holy ********, man, when's the las' time you ate?"

And there was asking, for all the good that might do. He was genuinely concerned.

Seeing as no attention had been brought to him just yet, Alec continued his slow and stealthy path towards Sid and the weird, slimey man. As much as he hated what his face had become, he was thankful for the muzzle-like protrusion when he was swimming as he could silently glide like a crocodile with only his nostrils and eyes above water.

Realizing the conversation was potentially more interesting than he'd thought, he slowed further until his boyant body was weightlessly suspended in place a few metres from where the sickly lump of a man was positioned.

"Wassa'... point? M'all.. out. Sorry," he shook his head, limbs curling back under himself like a crude, algea-covered cusion.

"Out? Wha'? Dude, you can't just give up..." Sid said. But even as he said it, some trecherous little voice said maybe looking like that you could, and didn't he have something worse to look forward to? Being positive was hard. "I don' think they'd let you."

"A' think' a' gots a choco baw n' me pants?" Alec finally decided to pipe up after he angled his face just high enough for his mouth to break the surface. If anything, a candy bar packed with sugar would make the guy feel better. Right?
