[.The Caretaker.]

[picture, someday]
Name: Dr. Ragel Andrews
Age: Eighteen
Gender: Male
Species: Human/Vampire
Height: 5' 4"
]Weight: Underweight
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: Blonde
Skin Color: Very, very pale
Date of Birth: September 18th

Attire:
Ragel is usually wearing black. Probably to protect himself from the sun. Being a partial vampire has its ups and downs - one of the downs is extremely sensitive eyes and skin. He wears sunglasses constantly as well. He's usually found in a black satin shirt, black jeans, black gloves, and a heavy black cloak that drapes over his shoulders, and clasps at his throat with a small silver dagger-shaped pin. He chooses not to wear the cowl the cloak has - simply because he's learned that it's best not to fear the sun. He wears these clothes even when on-duty in the hospital - which gives many of his co-workers pause as he goes about his duties.

History:
Ragel died in 1998, so he's a relatively new Childe of the Night. That didn't stop a god from deciding that he wasn't quite ready to die yet. The result? He's a halfling, a dhampir, and he's not too happy about the fact. He still needs blood, and still can't eat or drink human food without severe consequences to the half-dead stomach he possesses. It's not easy, being a half-vampire. He applied for a job at Karai Memorial soon after being turned - the night shift, of course. He was accepted because of his remarkable surgical talent, and has been working there every since. Approaching a tender age at a dhampir's life, he's now focused on his studies, and on raising this child that has fallen pretty much into his lap. He's never had a loving father, and therefore doesn't have anything to draw from, but his own instincts. If seen in public, it will ONLY be at the hospital, or TOR headquarters. He doesn't like to venture outside, for a very obvious reason. He's been severely burned by the sun one too many times to be very comfortable outside - but during rainy days, he might just take a stroll around the block to see what's changed.

~ Out of the Sky, Into Life ~

It was raining hard when Dr. Ragel Andrews finally slipped out the doors of the bustling hospital at the end of his shift. A gifted surgeon, Ragel had been kept a little late to complete the recovery check on one of his patients. Not that he minded, but it meant that he was caught in a downpour of epic proportions. If that wasn't bad enough, he'd left his sunglasses at home, and so had to squint his eyes against the rain. One of the downsides to being a vampire - or at least half of one.
It hadn't been a quiet day at the hospital, so the doctor had a lot to think about as he was trudging his way home. He lived a good twenty miles from the hospital, but given his supernatural stamina, he wasn't perturbed about walking just that distance to get back to the warmth and comfort of his abode. It would be more than taxing to an adult human, but to Ragel, it was a "walk in the park". The rain just made it that much more interesting.
Depsite that rain, Ragel knew it to be a full moon - or as he liked to call it "Fool's Moon". He knew there was a werewolf pack around here that would so very much like to get their claws into him. He wasn't going to let that happen, but it was a scary thought that he might actually run into one of them. Or all of them. He allowed himself a soft chuckle. Even such an encounter would be virtually fun to escape. His life was pretty boring - despite being a surgeon - and he did like the occasional troubling situation once in a while to get things nice and stirred up.

He was about to get more than he bargained for.

It had to have been nearing midnight when Ragel approached his home, soaking wet, and sorely in need of blood, rest, and nice warm bed. It was simply that thought that kept him moving, but there were other concerns that were weighing on his mind. The headlights of the cars on the roadway served to light his way, but they did nothing to lighten his heart.
He'd lost a patient today. A young girl, not more than seventeen. Given, her case was supposed to be incurable... but.. still... He missed her, in something of an odd way. Not as a doctor. More as a friend. As one she'd told all her secrets and fears to. His mind was reeling with the loss still, even after he'd been forced to do his job, and perform her autopsy. Natural causes - disease. Just as he'd thought would happen, eventually.
His mind was so caught up in these thoughts of "Lisa", that he failed to notice the two in front of him, until he was almost on top of them. As soon as he actually heard the talking, though, he ducked behind a tree alongside the roadway, to listen to what they were saying. It wasn't really important. Laughter, cruel in nature. Snarling. ... A baby's crying?
He took a chance, and peeked out from his hiding place to meet a sight that made his blood run cold. Two werewolves, in the massive Crinos form, were TOSSING around a baby. Redhaired and squalling against his treatment, the infant was close to passing out, and Ragel didn't blame him. The wolves weren't being gentle at all. Ragel had seen this behaviour before, and knew that this was how they "played with their food". His heart went out to the tiny infant, and his teeth clenched in anger. That was one baby that wasn't going to be on the damned menu.

Ragel allowed himself to immerse into the vampire half of him. His head tilted back, rain running down his face, and his eyes closed. He felt the sharp pain, like a horse's kick in the mouth, that meant his fangs were descending. His slowed his breathing, and opened his senses, flowing along with his own half-dead heartbeat, and becoming one with the sounds around him.
Let no one tell you that being a vampire isn't pleasurable.
He couldn't lose himself completely, as he did when feeding. He had to be aware, to think and to plan. And to get that baby back. He knew how he was going to do it - he'd dealt with these punks before. And punks they were, teen werewolves that had no idea yet that other beings of the supernatural variety thrived in this area.
He stepped from behind his hiding place, cape swilring in the wind. Theatrical Vampire: Take One. The werewolves stopped and, almost as in slow motion, turned. There was not a sound on that street as their eyes met. Not a sound but the frightened whimpering of the child they'd let drop. Both pups drew back their lips in a snarl, and turned to run.
Ragel was hungry. It wasn't a good idea to run from a hungry vampire. He flew at one of them, as only a vampire could, and clung, swinging around the form, until he sank his fangs into the tender flesh at the throat. The extasy of feeding hit him at once, tenfold because of the power of the blood. He took only what he needed, letting the werewolf scamper off with its fellow after he'd had his fill.
Having chased the beasts off, he exhaled slowly, savoring the feeling of being full of warmth. The rain came down in buckets, and he was soaked through. Not that it mattered. Back to the task at hand.
He bent down to the babe on the ground, and scooped him up. The child was dangerously underweight, but he seemed to be healthy despite that. His heart and lungs were working fine to Ragel's vampire hearing. He checked before letting his human nature take hold again, and withdrawing his fangs. This was an interesting change to say the least...
The rain trickled down Ragel's face, and splashed a bit on the tiny babe. The redheaded child reached up, and attempted to catch the raindrops in a questing fist. Ragel's face broke into a gentle smile. He lifted his head, and looked around, for anyone who might be the mother or father of the child he carried in his arms, but somehow he knew that the little one was his, and his alone.
He accepted the fact much more gracefully than some. He nodded once, lifted his cape to shield the baby from the rain, and proceeded the rest of the way home. Even for the distance - which really wasn't that far, the kid was asleep within Ragel's arms within moments of moving again.

"It's a miracle I was here when I was..."

He told the sleeping bundle.

"Thus "for a miracle" you shall be named."

He opened the door to his home, and stepped inside, shaking off the water without waking the child. He lifted a still-warm finger to caress the tiny cheek, chuckling.

"Welcome home, Lei'ryn."

- First Meeting

Arrikanez
Ragel fumbled with a pacifier, trying to stick it into his son's mouth, while at the same time balancing his medical bag on his hip, stethoscope slung around his neck. This wasn't going very well. Trying to open the door was a challenge he really didn't want to undertake, but had to nonetheless. Lei'ryn wouldn't stop squirming around. The boy was getting on his nerves, as he was wont to do, but Ragel sort of sympathized with him.
With no small amount of juggling, and shifting weight, he managed an akward way of balancing on one foot, while holding the door-handle turned with the hand holding the pacifier, Lei on his shoulder, nudging the door with one foot, and somehow managing not to drop anything - which was quite a feat, all things considered.
Dr. Ragel Andrews wasn't really old enough to look like a doctor. He was about eighteen - but where he came from, that was considered way past adult. His shaggy blonde hair fell over his eyes, giving him almost the look of a fluffy, clueless longhaired dog. His green eyes peeked out from behind the bars of his hair, and his pale skin was dotted here and there with freckles. This was going to be something new and different for him - Well, seeing as he'd never had a kid before..
.

Blue_thief
"oh!" Blue jumped up, helping the newcomer with the door

Arrikanez
"GYAH!"
Ragel almost literally jumped at the sound of another voice. He hadn't expected anyone to be here. Calming down, he let his bag dropped, and wrapped both arms around his new son, gazing at the person who had spoken with supernaturally intense eyes.
"Sorry about that... wasn't expecting anyone to be here... Haven't been to this place before..."

Blue_thief
Blue laughed "My first time too." She picked up the medical bag "Im Blue, the red-head on the floor over there is Gregor. Hes my son." When she said 'son' She smiled at the word.

Arrikanez
Ragel nodded a bit, and motioned his head to the baby on his shoulder - who was currently finding some locks of his father's hair a fascinating thing to grab.
"This little troublemaker is Lei'ryn. For a Miracle, in my langauge. My name is Ragel. Well, Dr. Ragel Andrews, if you want to be formal. But please don't - Ragel's fine."
He set down his son on the floor, and the flamehaired child almost immediately began to crawl towards the other baby.

Blue_thief
"Nice tae meet you Ragel. Gregors a bit of a trouble-maker too. I think they'll get along" She replyed in her fading Irish accent.

Gregor looked up at the newchild and grinned

Arrikanez
Ragel took a seat in any available, and started going through his doctor things, yawning. Apparently, it had been a busy day, and there was more to be said for a nice quiet place to rest than one would imagine.

Lei'ryn plopped down next to this other child, and looked straight at him. He shivered slightly, and then tried to creep forward, and grab anything attached to the other child.

Blue_thief
Gregor flailed a bit and made a warning noise. He didn't know what the other baby was up to, and was afraid to find out

Arrikanez
Lei paused, and sat back with a burble. All he'd wanted to do was grab a lock of the other's hair. He pouted a bit. Not fair. The other was being scared of him, and all he wanted to do was be friends.

Blue_thief
Gregor sat back. He made a friendly coo. He didnt mean to insult the other child, he was just new to all these people.
