Well, mine does save black, but I guess this way is actualy a little better: Black: F6
Really doesn't matter what white does after that though. None of the options really affect the outcome. There's no way white would play A3 or A5, beucase he would lose a piece and not be in a position to take the group. In the end black would play both spots and white probably would play A2 and A6 in order to try to contain black. The only other two places for white to play are E4 and D6. If white plays E4, black would play E5 to create the eye. If white played D6, black could play either E4 or E5 and create two eyes, thus saving black.

Quote: New Puzzle - 02.14.2005 Ok, it is black's move. How can black stay alive? umm.. Mars.. I think you got the position wrong.. ^^;;.. cause F6 is taken.. and something tells me you are reading the puzzle the wrong way.. sweatdrop .. I am going to let you try again on this.. .. and as for other members.. I think Mars have given the answer and explanation, just the wrong coordinate.. >.> so.. this puzzle is 90% solved.. there for.. I will get the next one ready.. ASAP.. EDIT: NEW PUZZLE UP!! 3nodding

The key to this one is what I call 'yielding to conquer,' by which you sacrifice some of your stones in order to take more prisoners.
Black plays A5 to begin the exchange. White makes a seemingly good move at A6 to threaten both stones, and Black extends to A4. White, instead of playing B7 to take Black's lone stone, since that would allow Black to play A3, White saves its life at B6, Black plays A10 to kill, instead plays A3 to take Black's two-stone group. Black doesn't mind, and lays another stone on A5. This is key here, A5 and not A4. If Black played A4, White's stones would connect up and be alive. But Black plays A5, forcing White to kill again at A4. White still knows it's up s**t creek without even a boat, let alone a paddle, and maybe says a little prayer while Black takes White's new five-stone formation by playing A5 again. White now gives it the old college try, seeing there are no more opportunities within Black's Ominous Ring of Death, and tries to flee at A10, but Black cuts him off (of course) at A11 and White is now officially screwed. Any more stones here are a waste of time. Yay Black!

... Dang it, I was looking at A5 too... is part of the answer wrong or the whole thing, because my explaination is slightly different, but I still start at A5. sweatdrop

Yeah, I'd like to know what was wrong with my answer, too. Is there some way for white to save itself that I haven't seen? I mean, I'm pretty sure I exhausted all the possibilites...
That would actually be pretty helpful, now that I think about it. Instead of just saying, "No, you're wrong," actually say where White could play in that sequence that made it wrong.
