On another guild they have a tutoring program I think this guild would benefit from one. What does the caption and vice caption think? It could cover P/D/Plat SS/HG and B/W the person(s) must state which game gen they want help with and can reapply once they finish the game or competitive style this is how it would be set up for tutor Application

Edit: L05t 50ul idea on other guild- he just mentioned B/W I added the other games since some people still play them

Tutor Application:
Gaia Name:
FC:
Pokemon Online Name:
Time Available:
*Tutoring Qualifications:
**Competitive Play Style:

*Qualfications for competitive battling only, not in-game achievements*

**Please include, whether you are used to playing singles, doubles, triples, rotation, PO or Wifi, and Tiers you are comfortable in teaching if applicable**

And the setup for tutee Application

Tutee Application:
Gaia Name
IGN/FC:
PO Name:
Availability:
Competitive Play Style Wanted To learn:

Please fill out the above applications if you wish to participate

side note here:having a medium that the tutor and tutee can chat in, is necessary, whether it's through AIM, YM, Skype, Gaia Chat, Or through the PO logs, to be able to allow the maximum amount of err...umm...tutorage????
So what would you guys think?

I like this idea. It'd be nice to have an apprentice. Actually this is kind've how I got into competitive play. I met someone who taught me about things and gave me good battle experience.

Had it not been for a mentor, who knows if I would've actually gotten competitive. Basically I see it as an opportunity to raise battle activity around here.

Hmm, that's quite different from how I learned. I had always battled a friend and we would compete quite often and we started battling on here and whatnot. And we would just pick up on things and research them in an attempt to outdo eachother. He hardly plays these days for all I know, we haven't been friends since 9th grade when he started a fight and I beat him up. =/ s**t happens, huh? But I'll admit, if I didn't have someone to constantly compete against, I probably never would have gotten into it this much. Lol, though I ran into him the other day at the local card shop and he tried to tell me Lucario was UU (Before gen 5 was out, not sure bout his tier now)... XD He hasn't seen how devastating Lucario can really be with a Swords Dance under his belt I assume.

As for the program, I'm not usually one to help with the founding. Maybe if this gets going I'll help mentor. Good luck with it though, maybe adding some flashy pictures will help? Always seems to draw in some attention for those expecting to make a quick stop, maybe post, and leave. Though, it certainly won't hurt other than maybe wasting a bit of time. Good luck though~

I am quite similar to Archolite on this one. Had a group of friends who all just wanted to try Pokemon again just for nostalgic lawls and the competition between us got super intense. Eventually I found my way here (as well as the Video Game Discussion forums back before Pokemon got it's own Forum section) and pretty much learned alot of battling by actually battling. I'd encounter something interesting and try to duplicate it and in the process, I made quite a few new battling friends and we always tried to one up each other and in the process shared strategy ideas.

If there are any mentors/tutors dedicated to helping people, then that would be great. It was the original idea we had with the apprentice system for the gym league, since mono-typing isn't exactly the easiest thing to do, but also had planned special events and tournaments just for the apprentices but our system never stablized, which is why it might get done away with altogether.

I suppose we each do come from different battling backgrounds! I know ive only recently been active again in this guild, but I would hope my battling since then has given me at least a small amount of respect for competitive play! I basically got to where I am all on my own! None of my friends really played pokemon much, but it simply grew on me ever since I picked up my first game sapphire! I had a few friends that only casually played, but they were never really challenged me to become better! Its really only until I joined this guild that I started getting into competitive battling! I met someone at an anime convention where I live and he referred me to this guild, which I am very glad he did! After that it was just me trying to figure everything out on my own! I never had to chance to battle much, so I focused mostly on breeding and training pokemon! (which is why I have gotten proficient at RNGing competitive pokemon!)

As for the mentor system, I think its a fantastic idea! I know it wouldve helped me out greatly, and wouldve saved me much time trying to just wing everything and figure it all out on my own! I would absolutely be a mentor if I was given the chance to!

I feel so flattered being compared to the old Flying Gym Leader. Haha, such a veteran. Anyhow, I think I might score that spot this time around. I'll be sure to make you proud. wink

And, I actually know my type so well, I feel way more confident in Mono battles. Plus, being able to look at each type prior to the battle gives me a good idea of what to look for, though that isn't always such a privelage. Nonetheless, I feel like I know these Flying pokemon well enough to take anyone on and make a loss at least a challenge for my opponent. Not too get all cocky or anything, I'll still probably take some pretty bad losses here and there. But, I would think of myself as pretty good player. And again, get this thing going, I'll take a mentor spot for anyone willing. I know some tricks and hidden mechanics. Not so much hidden. But, stuff like how Roost drops your Flying type for the remainder of the turn. Which can definitely get you out of a tight spot at times. Or like how Extremespeed is +2 priority in gen 5. Bet half you guys didn't know that.

I am kinda curious to know what you are trying to convey, When you imply a tutor system, are you referring to some of us veterans to host online workshops for random tidbits of the game? Or are you referring one on one tutlage with people new to the scene having one or more go to guys to ask about any questions they have?

Aside from my questions above, as Kyrenx mentioned already, that we have a the GL apprentice system in work that sort of accomplishes this, especially with 2 sub threads devoted to both team building and in game questions. Not to sound negative but do we really need anymore set ups?

I know I've seen this before and since it is literally a copy/paste, you should at least credit in the post. Better yet if you rephrase or ask permission to post word by word. 3nodding

Like that is going to happen friend. I agree it should be so that way but, its hardly the case anywhere in Gaia, especially with random good ideas and great set ups. Especially considering the idea is being used for a non commercial function.

So recently receiving my Mac, I'm going to get back into recording battles. I feel a little rusty so I'll be practicing(trying) tonight to see how it goes.
A tutor system would be efficient. The GL apprentice system is good, but not everyone wants to use Mono to learn/be taught certain things. Its more like a pokemon school trainers are looking for; when to do this, what this means, how to get around these, etc. I think it would best be used with a certain number of teachers teach a few trainers per. Something really organized and active, y'know?

Probably just easier to rephrase it to simply "hay guyz maybe people could teach other peeplez stuffs on pikomonz". I mean, down to the core, it's an idea even a cosmonaut monkey could have come up with (and probably has). *I give original credit to the USSR cosmonaut monkey for this original idea*.. Done. There now everyone is appeased and the universe is no longer unaligned and the planets are no longer out of orbit. Your welcome.

Seriously though as Cormini says, if someone throws a fit every time something was stolen on the interwebz, then at least 3/4ths of the Pokemon guilds on Gaia Online seriously owe us 600x600 banner links to our guild on their main pages for all the crap they've stolen from us. Since I don't know which guild this was taken from (nor do I care to be honest) and before anything is said to the effect of "We hasn't stoles nothing", I really don't care if you did or didn't. I once again refer you back up to the part that begins with "Seriously though" for a quick re-refresher of the point I was trying to make. [/End transmission]

If you want I can edit it. Or say how about a tutoring for mono and non mono type for Plat/D/P HG/SS and B/W for people who want to learn competitive style battling. People who want to learn say what tier they want to learn and if the want to learn single or double battles for the first 3 games mentioned and in B/W if the want those types of battles and including triple and rotation because they are that Gen specific. And the People who tutor put down what type of tier(s) they can teach and they type battling they can teach along with if they just want to stick with mono types or cover mutilate types, or (which isn't mentioned in the other guild) teach people to set up weather effect teams and the tutie can also way they would like to learn to set that type of team up. I could copy and paste or crew could if they so wish. This is up the crew and captions. It would not offend me and might quill the people I have upset I do see their point of view. I just thought it would be a good thought for this guild. (I'm not hurt by the comments that's why I offered to fix this on my own and if someone comes up with a better to do this I'm open to suggestions just PM me with your idea and put Tutor Post Idea in the subject) biggrin
