This is a private Rp between Yuuka Kurokawa's Nek'mani and Samuel Carlin's Roque. Please feel free to read along and enjoy. Nek'mani sighed in relief as she headed on the trail that lead into the mountains. The teepee was getting crowded with all the new faces joining and one of them was DEFINITELY not the friendliest she'd ever dealt with. It felt good to be off on her own after being cooped up for several days of pregnant mare watching duty. She loved Amy dearly, she was sweet. It was just...she needed to run and have an adventure, just so she wouldn't feel so bloody...tied down!
Giving her mane a shake, she galloped full tilt up the rocky path until she came upon a flat, seemingly empty area. Far in the distance, there was a...well blob...sitting (standing?) there almost begging to be explored. Shrugging, she decided to go for it. She was normally cautious, but being kept in for so long had slightly damaged that aspect. She could almost hear her father chastising her, but she was already nearly there so it was a bit late to stop now.

Roque was indeed simply standing there. There was a nice breeze right here and he was taking advantage. Out and away from the caves, no little ones chewing on his tail or asking him to explain why the trees grew so tall or why they shouldn't try to eat pine cones. His daydreaming idyll came to an end when he heard hoofbeats and someone headed toward him at the run. Ear swiveling in her direction first, he turned to face the oncoming mare, ears perked. He'd let her tell him if he should be worried or getting ready to take to the sky. "Are you all right? Is everything okay?" He didn't see anyone chasing her, but you could never be too sure.

Mani skidded to a stop and blinked a few times as the voice registered. In front of her was no blob or thing to be explored. Instead she found herself face to face with a rather handsome stallion. "Uhhh..." was all she could manage before the rest came out in a sort of jumble, "you're a stallion."
Oh yes, very nice Nek'mani. Now he'll think you're a simpleton. Great job on the first impression. Feel free to insert hoof to face here please.
Coughing she decided to press on and addressed the stallion's questions. "Yes I'm alright, everything's fine." Well...aside from the fact that she looked like a complete idiot now. This was gonna be interesting...

He was a ... well. Yes. He blinked twice, then very slowly started to smile. "The last time I checked, at least, I was a stallion, yes. I think I'd notice if that changed." He certainly would. And he wouldn't be happy about it. He relaxed at least, and smiled more easily. "A stallion called Roque, as a matter of fact. What's your name? If you're not too out of breath to say..."
There were other stallions around, he knew, so she couldn't have raced all the way over just to make sure.

At that Mani flushed, "Sorry about the reaction. I just wasn't expecting to find anyone up here."
His name was Roque, definitely not a troll then, "I'm Nek'mani or Mani if you prefer." Her chest still heaved, but she wasn't as out of breath as he probably thought she should have been. She was used to running longer distances, so that hadn't been too much of a challenge. The curiosity got the better of her and she asked, "So, what brings you here Roque? I don't see anyone chasing you or are you like me and trying to get away from a crowd?"

He chuckled and bobbed his head. "It's all right. It's better than seeing me, shrieking and turning around to run the other way, I think." Not a troll, not even a little bit of one, though he had his own secrets, come to that.
He stretched his wings a little, gave them a shake and refolded them against his sides. "Nobody chased me up here," he agreed. "It just seemed like a nice spot to stand a while. Quiet. And there was a breeze that was just right. Not too cold, not too warm. Not too hard. I don't even know what I was thinking about," he confessed. He chuckled again. "Definitely escaping the crowd. Who are you getting away from? Friends? Herd?"

"Try all of the above plus a very large extended family. I love them all, but....after several days I want to run screaming and never look back." She cracked a smile and shook her head, "I don't mean that. It's just frustrating having to be in one place for so long without getting a break to feel the wind in your mane as you run or go exploring." She eyed him briefly and wondered idly if her asking him about any secrets would be improper or not. Hmm....best to wait and see if she could gauge a possible reaction to that out of some conversation.
"What about you, herd, friends, or both?"

"Family," he answered. They counted as both. "When things get loud and crazy, I think anywhere but where I am seems like the place to be.' He had a feeling she understood just what he meant. "And then I get out here, and I have some quiet to myself, and I start to wonder what I'm missing." He shook his head a little, smiling wryly at himself.
"Nek'mani, you said?" Why think about the thoughts running through his head when he had someone else to talk to? "That's a different sounding name. Does it mean something? I mean, I'm sure it does," he amended. "But does it mean something to you?"

Mani stood straight and tall, pride practically oozing out of her pores, "It means I'm a troll. We're a long line of proud Soqs, though I didn't get some of the usual family traits, like tusks. I'm still proud to be a troll!" She beamed for a couple of minutes, but deflated at his saying something was missing. "I know what you mean, but so far for the life of me, I can't figure out what exactly. Isn't it strange?"

A troll. "I've never met a troll before," he confessed. Clearly it was important to her, and it interested him. "And I've never met anyone with tusks. But..." He tilted his head and scuffed the ground with a hoof, a little embarrassed. "I think I'd like to. It must be...interesting to live with them."
And, since she'd confessed when he'd so baldly asked, he offered, "My father and uncle are blood-drinkers. Vampires. Not the same sort of teeth, I know." Still, it was something unusual that he could share.
He tipped an ear toward her when she deflated. He hadn't meant to dampen her mood or her spirits at all. "Maybe not so strange, if you're used to being around so many other soquili all the time. Quiet can be nice, but it's just not ...normal. Right?"

Mani giggled quietly, "I've never met a blood drinker. Do you drink blood too?" Her head tilted to one side as she regarded him with gentle eyes. She pondered his words and nodded slowly, " Being alone isn't normal, but I sort of like it. You know, once in a while I mean."

Roque shook his head. "No. No. Never had the taste for it." Or the need, though he didn't mention that part. No need to scare her off, after all. He'd rather not see the look she gave him become one of fear. "I stick to the usual things." Usual for him, at least. "Though Nikki, my brother, did dare me to eat a bird egg, once." He laughed at the memory. "I don't recommend it."
He nodded then. "I know exactly what you mean. And so, we come to the reason we both ended up here." He smiled. "Having someone to talk to is better than alone, though. At least today."

Mani chuckled at that, "I hear two-leggers are rather fond of eating them. I'll take your word on it though!" She blushed prettily, "I think it's nice to actually be able to speak to someone without yelling to be heard over all the other voices."
She had to admit, Roque was easy to talk to and he had a rather nice smile... She shook her head and returned her attention to the stallion she was chatting with.

"Is that where the idea comes from?" Roque wondered. "I wasn't sure where Nikki got it. I don't think I've ever seen my family eat them otherwise. He must have overheard it somewhere." Brothers. They were always trying to pull one over on the other.
'We don't shout much, at home," he offered. "Of course, we live in caves. Can you imagine how loud that would be? I don't think our ears would ever stop ringing."

Mani couldn't help it, she giggled at that. "I think that may just be brothers. My older sister hasn't done anything like that to me. Mostly she tries to teach me to sing. I'm not very good though. She sings almost as well as a bird!"
She looked proud of her sister and she was just a little jealous. Aer could sing beautifully and she had such a handsome stallion courting her. She nodded at his reply about shouting in caves, "Yes, I can imagine how horrible that would be, but we live out in the open near the mountains so.... I think we're safe from echo and reverb for a bit!"
