what exactly is the deal with gaia homes?

i used to see a featured home on the community home tab every week...

and i cant customize mine at all cause the software wont load, so whats so big about them?

is it that they are jsut a 2-d style animated chat room or something?

i'd like to know so ican see about a layout for mine...
