A shabby young lion roamed a marshy area, not too unlike his home land. The mud was a different color here, its scent different all together. Hewa felt that the moon w as following him and slowly he began to get a case of the heebie-jeebies. His skin prickled and the fur on the back of his neck rose as he heard noises in the distance.
The young lion was a seer, premonitions came to him in the form of voices; the voices that he thought were the spirits of the Swamplands. In this area the voices were the same as his homeland, and he was sure that the spirits were guiding him, egging him on. He was lead here, but the voices did not give him a reason.
Mud clung to his fur in thick mats and the pale white of his fur was stained a deep maroon from all of his mud wallowing throughout life. He often felt as if he was one with the earth, just like another piece of rock or mud along the water’s edge. This feeling gave the adolescent male comfort in the darkest of times, and right now he was looking for comfort. Looking towards the sky Hewa shivered wondering what lay in store, what mischief were the spirits playing with him.

Indu had run away from home, the only place she had ever known on what now was seeming to be just a very large whim. The great lion’s eye might be shining brightly, but now unlike ever before it frightened her the way the silver light cast awkward shadows and skewed angles turning harmless bushes into menacing monsters in the dark.
The land here was unlike anything she had ever experienced, it was like the earth was trying to take you as its own and it frightened the adolescent female. She missed her foolish, stupid, slave mother and wanted her comfort. She was starting to admit that her running away was a bad move, no matter how angry.
She was the one who wanted to marry some stupid king! She didn’t love my father the way she loves her slave king. And what if it is all in her head, perhaps mother has gone mad! Indu wrestled with these thoughts as she walked slowly in the night, trying very hard not to look up at the great moon.

“Over here look!” Shouted a voice inside of Hewa’s mind. His premonitions manifested within him as if someone was speaking aloud. He jerked his head to the left and his eyes fell on a small figure in the dark.
“She’s what you’re looking for.”
“What’s her name?” Hewa spoke out loud and corrected his course towards the lioness’ direction. Since leaving home the adolescent did not find it odd to speak to himself, he believed deeply in the spirits and their guidance. At home he was more reserved with such actions, being raised by the seer queen he knew that lions could hear their voices.
“You’ll find out.” The voice sounded as if it was play tricks on him, and the little demi god was uncertain if he should continue.

Fate must have intervened because Indu heard the male’s voice in the night, her ruby eyes watching him with interest. He was heading straight to her, and speaking, but she was sure that there was no one else with him. Indu shivered in fear as the earth-monster-lion approached. She had not once in her life seen someone covered with so much mud! She knew the thing was male based on voice alone but other than that she was sure if he was really lion at all.
Indu did not inherit an unending appetite for knowledge like many in her family, she was just fine allowing her life to be simple with people waiting on her and her mother instructing her on what to do.
For the second time in the pastel lioness’ life she decided to take a leap of faith and go with her gut instincts, walk towards this stranger and do not run away. She inhaled deeply and on exhaling she stepped forward. Her leap of faith was becoming a plunge of dumb as she stepped into a rotting log and fell through into the great behemoth’s interior, the log had been laying for many years almost entirely flesh with the ground. As she place wait on in the rotting wood gave way. The lioness was knocked completely unconscious by her fall.

The grungy mud covered male dashed forward, covering the distance between them he poked his head into the hole she disappeared into. What was this silly lioness doing! Hewa inhaled sharply as he saw her laying at an odd angle within the hollow of the log.
“Hey, hey you, are you okay?” he hissed loudly into her ear, “Please be okay, I’m supposed to be here for you.”
Hewa waited for a response and started to panic when she did not answer. He could smell her, and hear her breathe, she was a live, but the young male had never seen anyone who would not wake when prompted too, never seen anyone knocked out.
"Hey, voices," he paused to see if they would respond, "Is she alright?" he waited.

Indu did not move, she did not stir or wake to his calls, she could not hear him. Everything was black, nothing.
Hewa was not sure what to do, and his vision voices had nothing to input into the situation. At a loss he squeezed his bulky front half into the log and straightened her out the best he could, adjusting her body into a more natural position, seeing her crooked and bent scared him and made him think of a dead antelope.
Pulling himself back out he shivered and rested near the log. The voices said he needed to meet her, she was important, he could not leave her. The voices never led him astray, so he decided to wait, curling up beside the log. If it had been big enough Hewa might have curled in the log with her.

Indu felt miserable, a lump had formed on the back of the female's head. The sun was beginning to rise by time she came to quite disoriented and wondering what in the moon's name had happened to her! Peering her eyes open she glared at her wooden encasement! Had the ghoulish earth monster lion done this to her?
Letting out a low moan of pain she pulled herself up and out of the log, rolling down beside it she came face to face with her unbeknown to her "rescuer." "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!" She howled into his sleeping face.

Hewa was jolted from his dreaming, something peaceful about his mother Asali whom he loved so much. She was not his real mother, but being the queen of the pride and raising him he looked to her as mother and nurturer. He thought long and hard about the nickname she had given him and wanted to impress her with a glorious new one upon returning.
Confusion crossed his face as he looked at the yellow lioness, "I have done nothing!" he seethed at her, "I was protecting you! You fell into that gigantic log and I was trying very hard to make sure you were not dead!" Anger not mixed with confusion, surely the spirits had not seen this coming!

the pale yellow lioness glared at Hewa wondering what in the world he was talking about surely the great lion would not have allowed her to fall, he was surely watching. Indu blinked her red eyes focused on the male. He looked sincere, angry, and confused as if /she/ were at fault which was surely not the case in this situation!
"I well.." she huffed and looked back at the log that she did not recall 'falling into', "you were not trying to keep me captive? And..what are you? You look like a mud monster!" She chuckled and took a step away from him, it was not good to insult someone who may or may not have been trying to keep you in a giant log.

"Keep you captive!?" Hewa howled with laughter, what a silly little lioness to think such a thing. Hewa was raised with good morals and a respect for other lions. Tears welled in his eyes and he rocked back and forth trying to compose himself to catch his breath.
"I would never! And I am a lion, not a monster," he thought of the dreams of Boma, she was the real mud monster, not him."My name is Hewa, what are you?" a chuckle and air of laughter hung in his voice as he spoke. She was pretty, he decided even for one to act so foolish and bratty.
"I had only your best interest in mind, you know."

Indu's expression was one of hurt and embarrassment as she glared at the mud monster now named Hewa. His laughter was very insulting and she turned away from him. She was on her own and Nerit had not given her the skills to cope away from the pride...yet. She was learning to hunt and putting meat on her bones slowly and becoming something of a lioness she would one day be..but not understanding the world around her sometimes infuriated the adolescent.
"I'm Indu..and..thank you," she held her composure and fought back tears of embarrassment, "To repay you for your..bravery...I think we should find you someplace to bathe." she sniffed and put a paw to her nose noting the smell of him. Her snarky comments were dangerous, foolish at best bu the seemed good natured and had stayed near her to protect her, or so he said. It was better to insult than be insulted, of this she was positively sure.
Ahh, little Indu mommy would be so proud of her bratty little girl trusting someone and opening up.

The young male laughed warmly, "Indu, I cannot say it has been a very large pleasure meeting you under such circumstances, how ever I am glad to have company."
Hewa's expression hardened at the mention of water he did not like water, the swamps were different in his opinion, they could suck you in and hold you..but at least they were connected to the earth. Hewa had always felt a kindred spirit with mud and muck and did not like open water. He grew up with Swampy muck and mud..they made sense they were homey.
He would be with her though, with another..Hewa thought on this for a moment staring off into space. It was easier to swim and let go of land when there was someone there to help you cross to the next island. "Alright, do you know where there's a stream or pond?"

"There's one right down this way, didn't you pass it on your way here?" She glared at the male. He did need a bath, didn't he! Couldn't recognize water if it came up and bit him on the rump! That was for sure!
"Right this way, dirt boy," she grunted and started to walk toward the river she had seen the night before, she was quite confident it was in he direction she was going in, and if it wasn't? She'd already been embarrassed today, what was a little bit more to add to the tally?
"How could someone smell so bad and be so kind?" she asked and tried not to inhale, in truth he wasn't /that/ bad, but it was best to try and embarrass him, make him feel the way she felt.

Hewa followed, he wasn't going to let her teasing get him down, the spirits had said she was who he was supposed to find and in his book that meant he was in the right place, and could take a few jabs at his smell.
"This smell?" He inhaled deeply, "Why, that smell is just like home!" The smirk would be wiped right off of his face once he saw water, but there wasn't water yet and he could continue on his way, feigning happiness. He needed some companionship, he felt far too disconnected with the world around him.
"Miss Indu, I'd follow you anywhere, even to get a bath," He howled with laughter and continued after her.
