Life was simple. That is, of course, until his mother revealed that she was into chicks and had been banging his father's secretary. She moved to New York and started doing art or something. Of course, he was only seven when that happened, so the details are still vague. His father was a single dad for a few years until he met Alex's step-mother, who was only nineteen at the time. They married within a year and soon Alex found himself the older brother of SIX half-siblings. Of course, his step-mother was young, and his dad divorced once more, but by this time Alex was living on his own, going to culinary school. His dad gave his younger siblings the opportunity to choose who to live with, and even though three of them decided to do the smart thing and stay with their mother, the other three selected Alex. And so he became the provider for his three siblings. He gave up on trying to get a job at a five star restaurant, and instead moved out to the middle of nowhere where he could maybe not have to work so hard.
Since moving to the island, things have taken a turn for the unexpected. He worked as the inn chef for a while, for a crazy family. Seriously, it almost seemed like sexual harassment by the end there. But somehow things fell together, and he found himself the owner of his own restaurant. He's slowly been settling into his place here, and he doesn't regret coming out here anymore.

Can't let anyone know she actually keeps one of those things. ████████ ████████ ████████ ████████ ████████ My Storyxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx About: River is the eldest of her siblings, excluding her two half-brothers, which she does a lot. Although she's old enough to live on her own and ignore this whole mess, she decided to move in with Alex to help out around the house... Too bad she's a complete disaster when it comes to housework. She works when she can, attempts to play mother when she can (she ends up sounding more immature than her younger siblings), and tries to keep her temper under control. She's an incredibly cheery and energetic person, which sometimes causes her to come across as dim, but it's just because she is easily delighted. She has a curious nature that only adds to her youthful nature. She's a skilled athlete and has good reflexes and a scary amount of arm strength for a girl her size. Back in high school, she was in a gang, and even though she insists she's completely over that phase of her life, bits and pieces slip through every once in a while. She bleaches her naturally red hair blonde because "gingers freak her out".
Although she is small and cute, she's has a lot of masculine qualities. Aside from her strength and stamina, she has a frightening high tolerance for alcohol and usually drinks most people under the table. She doesn't take many things seriously, except for when it comes to her siblings and friends.

Job: Animal trainer Journal/Diary: In her desk drawer ████████ ████████ ████████ ████████ ████████ My Storyxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx About: Elliot is the youngest of four quadruplets and was often overshadowed by her louder, more enthusiastic sisters. A lot of people thought it was strange that she chose to live with her brother instead of staying with her sisters, all of whom she's been with since birth. Still, when has she ever NOT been strange? Babyfaced and immature, she's always had trouble fitting in without any real tangible reason, so she decided to come out as a lesbian to have a reason to be excluded. Of course, no one wanted to be the jerk to exclude the gay kid, so she ended up with more friends than ever. She's never seriously thought about her sexuality, but she's been going with the lesbian thing for so long, she doesn't see much of a point in changing it.

• • • BACKGROUND
Scott Park was your average computer programmer living in the suburbs of northern California. His wife, Julia, was a home maker who dabbled in painting on the side. They had two children, Brian and Alex. He had a job, a wife, a nice house, his own car, and two sons. He made more than enough money, and was happy. That is, until he returned home one day to find a note. Turns out that Julia was a lesbian, had married him to make her parents happy, but couldn't keep on living a lie, so she was leaving him to move to New York to pursue a career in art. Oh, and she had been cheating on him with his secretary. At the age of 32 he found himself a single father of two young boys. He tried the single parent thing for a few years, and it was rough, but doable. Then he met May Bryant. Nineteen years old, fiery and sexy, he fell for her hard. And she was naive about the world enough to fall for his advances. One accidental pregnancy later, and the two were married. He was fifteen years her senior, and even his youngest son wasn't even young enough to pass as her biological son, because the age difference between the two was that small. May proceeded to give Scott a daughter, River, another son, Daniel, and a set of quadruplets. Within a few short years, May found herself the mother of eight children. Although she wasn't a bad caretaker, she had gone from school slut to stay-at-home mom. Twenty years was about as much as she could take, and sure enough, she soon left Scott as well.
Wanting to avoid any legal dispute over the custody of the kids, the Parks let their children choose who to live with. Brian was on his own and happily married by that point, and Alex was living the peaceful life of a bachelor chef. River was still living at home, but was old enough to live on her own. Daniel had just graduated from high school, and the quadruplets were still in school. Three of the quadruplets decided to move in with their mother, but Daniel and Elliot decided to go on a completely different path -- they selected Alex. Alex had already made plans to move to Nirvani to get away from his crazy family, but an agreement was an agreement, and he soon found himself the legal guardian of Elliot and the caretaker of Daniel, as well as River, who had decided to tag along to "help him out".
Alex Alex was your typical kid. He liked to play outside with his older brother after school, and would often ride his bicycle around the neighborhood with his father on the weekends. For seven years, he had a perfectly average life. That is, until he came home one day from school to find that his mother had left. His father was torn up, angry, and shocked. Alex struggled to understand what had happened, but his brother told him that his mother had moved to New York to live her dream, and that somehow made him feel better. If his mother was happy, that was all that mattered! Of course, when he got older, he would eventually learn the truth, but until he was out high school, he was blissfully unaware.
When he was nine years old, his father remarried. His step-mother was young and naive about the world of motherhood. But by that point he was a fairly easy child to care for, and he focused on his own things and let May play mother to her own biological children.
He wasn't particularly close to any of his half-siblings. By the time they were old enough to play with and talk to, he was a teenager, self-absorbed in his own things. He had sparked an interest in cooking when he was fifteen, and from then on his focused on going to culinary school and one day opening his own restaurant. He moved out when he was eighteen. He went to culinary school, graduated, and began working at a San Francisco restaurant for a few years before he got sick of the city life and its complexities. He stumbled upon an advertisement for Nirvani Island and thought it would be a nice, simple place to live. He had just terminated his apartment lease when he heard that his father and step-mother had broken up. Next thing he knew, Daniel and Elliot were standing at his doorstep. It was too late to go back, so he took them with him to Nirvani, allowing River to tag along if she promised to pull her weight.
River River's memories of childhood are full of love and warmth. She was her mother's firstborn, and as such, held a special place in her heart. She was an energetic child, upbeat and excited about life. She loved her younger siblings, loved her older half-brothers, and loved her parents. She was a child filled with love. Elementary school was happy. She played with friends and did fun things with her parents. Even though the arrival of the quadruplets took a lot of her mother's time, she didn't mind sharing the attention, as long as she got to spend time with her baby sisters.
When she was in middle school, things changed. The dynamics of everything changed. Puberty and hormones made everything more complicated and next thing she knew, her friends had turned against her. She was teased for her simple nature, her red hair, her young mother. Her classmates' mothers' disapproval passed through them, and soon River found herself the target of ruthless teasing and harassment. She was confused, she didn't know what to do, so she clung to the first group of people who would accept her. Unfortunately, they were... of a bad crowd. By the time River started high school, she was a full fledged gang member. She was bleaching her hair, smoking behind the bleachers, and assaulting other teenagers late at night. By the time she was sixteen she was out of control. She got in fights constantly, slept with guys and girls alike, and had let her grades slip beyond repair. She was a senior when a local gang rivalry exploded. The leader of her gang was pregnant, and didn't want to risk losing her baby in any further conflicts. River and her gangmates were furious. So, following the gang rules, they tracked the leader down one night and attacked her in the local park. By the time it was over, the woman was half-dead. River panicked, and she ran. She refused to look back. She left the gang. Days later, the gang dissolved. The woman had died that night, and no one wanted anything to do with each other.
Somehow River managed to graduate that year. Having so many gang members was harming the school's reputation, and they just wanted her out. Rumors spread that her father had paid the district to let her graduate on time... but nothing was ever confirmed. River graduated but never did anything after that. Even if she had been able to graduate from high school, she never would have been able to get into college. She helped her mother at home caring for the quadruplets. When her parents announced they were divorcing, she decided to help Alex out, and invited herself to move in with him.
Elliot May thought that she was getting just one more child, a third to complete her family. So imagine her surprise when her first ultrasound revealed not one, not two, not three, but four baby girls. Once the shock and terror wore off, the young woman was ecstatic, and Elliot was lucky enough to be born into a loving, caring household. However, she was the last. The last to be born, the last to come home, the last to mature. You see, Elliot was a perfectly normal baby, except that she seemed to always get sick. She stayed at the hospital for an extra few months before she could be taken home for good. Since then, she has enjoyed average health, excluding some allergies. But there was one problem--somehow, during those months she was away, her three sisters all bonded in a way that she would never make up. Don't get me wrong, she loved her sisters, and they were all very close as children, but deep down, something always felt... off... to Elliot. Her sisters all seemed to be perfectly normal children, playing with dolls and making friends at school. Elliot was just kind of... there. She used her siblings to express her emotions. She doesn't remember when her blank demeanor developed, why it did, but it's just a thing that's always been, and always will be.
She was always teased a lot by her classmates for being creepy, and she knew that even her family thought so. Her parents were too blinded by love for their offspring to notice, but her siblings sure did. It was getting tiring, being harassed like that, but conforming sounded like too much work, and it wasn't appealing at all, so Elliot decided to tell people that she was a lesbian, so that they'd leave her alone. Instead, it made her a bunch of (shallow) friends. School got better, but she still didn't feel like she fit in in their little suburban town.
When Elliot's parents announced they were divorcing, she was perplexed. Everyone assumed she would go with the rest of the "set" and live with her mother. All young girls need their mothers! But even though she loved her mother, she had been clashing with Scout, Erika, and Leanna. Besides, she knew her mother would have her hands full with three teenagers, she didn't need one more. And she would have gone with her father, but she couldn't imagine living alone with him in that big house. So she decided to follow Daniel, who she had always gotten along with, because they were both quiet, and River, who had been her voice for years. She ended up living with her half-brother, with whom she had never really spoken, and moved to a place that suited her better than she ever thought was possible.
