Quote: The orange trees all seem to hit their peak ripeness almost overnight -- sour and sweet and delicious fruit tumbling from branches to litter the ground in a dry area of the swamp. The result is somewhat horrifying, oranges that are going to go to waste, and so an intrepid wanderer sent a notice far and wide: Harvest the Oranges, take your fill, bring them home to the family, and win a prize for doing it! She has set up at the outskirts of the grove and grins at every kin that approaches, nodding them inward. "He or she who collects the most oranges will get a little help to carry them home..." With both front hooves planted on the rock, Night pounded on it to wedge it into place. Stepping back to assess his latest creation, he cocked his head to look at the tangle of rocks, tree limbs and vines he’d put together. Night couldn’t decide if he should call this jumble finished or go looking for flowers to add to it.
Birds flying back and forth across his line of sight finally got his attention. “What are you trying to say?” he asked of the flight of birds that seemed to always be around him. “You like it, or you don’t like it?” Trying to interpret their chirps and tweets, he noticed that now that they had his attention, they were flying a different pattern. Dipping around his head and then flying off towards the path leading away from the small clearing, Night wondered if they were trying to get him to follow them. The buck took a few steps in the direction of the path. The bird’s chittering became more animated and they started flying up and down the path.
“Since there seems to be something you want me to see,” said Night, “I guess my task here is done.” With a last look at his piled jumble of flora and fauna, he nodded his contentment with it and followed the birds.
His avian friends led him to a grove of orange trees. Standing at the edge of a field covered with felled oranges was a doe. She appeared to be greeting others that had found their way here. Getting closer, Night heard her encourage everyone to gather as many oranges as they could. Now he understood why his feathered friends had brought him here. Night quietly thanked Mother Swamp for her generosity, nodded to the doe and walked into the field.

Night quickly went to round up a couple more oranges. He made a little game of nudging 3 oranges in a race. One orange overshot his little pile, so he trotted over to nudge it back to his small growing collection.

Bedtime Story did not plan to leave her comfortable underground lair again, but the sweet scent of fruit had somehow made its way to where she lived. She had spent several hours resisting to resurface and ended up losing her mental battle with herself as her stomach started to rumble. Following the trail of sweetness with her nose, she walked toward the nearest exist and climbed up and out into the open. The massive field of oranges gave her nose an intense sensation. Saliva started to accumulate in her mouth as she sniffed the air. Story looked around to see what the cause of this all was when she saw an outline of a kin with her 'heat vision.' She walked up to the kin and listened to her story. "Hmm.. Collect the most, and I get help moving them home?" If only she knew that I lived underground. Story gave a nervous laugh and accepted her offer anyway. She would never refuse a free meal. Besides. Once the oranges are moved under the ground, no one can touch them besides her and other zikwas.

Lost noticed more than one kin heading in a particular direction. Always one to follow her curiosity, she followed the kin to see where they were going. She didn't bother to hide her actions or to engage them in conversation. Lost just walked in the same direction they did.
When they arrived at the clearing covered with oranges, the others walked past the doe motioning everyone to help themselves. Lost stopped and starred. "You need help?" she asked the doe. The doe nodded and motioned her on.

The buck knew that when his pile got bigger, he wasn't going to be able to move it all at once. Night looked around for a large leaf to start piling his oranges on. Finding a nice sized leaf, he gathered a few more oranges and rolled them all onto the leaf. Having gathered the closest oranges, he walked further away to find more.

Lost was so excited to help she trotted into the mass of oranges and stepped on quite a few before she stopped. "Oops." Looking at the flattened skins and squished out pulp, she said, "I don't think that's the way to help."
She glanced around to see what the others were doing. Seeing that many were gathering their oranges into small piles, she spotted a small group already sitting on a leaf. Heading in that direction, her green hooves, with a little orange pulp stuck to them, kicked against a few oranges knocking them together.

Lost thought how handy it was that she was able to find a bunch of oranges so close together. She nudged a couple with her front hoof and sent them sailing towards the others that she'd kicked together.
The mashed oranges filled the area with a tantalizing smell. Lost stopped to take time to eat one and savor the juicy texture of the fruit.

Night found some rather large oranges and started nudging a few back to his collection. The bigger, heavier fruit rolled further and Night was able to return to his collection with less work than with the little oranges.
Adding his new loot to the pile, he took stopped to take a second look at his pile. It looked a bit different than when he left. He counted the little gems and found there were less than he remembered. At least, he thought there were less. He pushed the concern aside and went to round up more oranges. Bedtime Story sniffed around to make sure the surrounding was safe to thread around in. She caught the same familiar scent, Night. He was somewhere in the vicinity but the overwhelming scent of rip oranges made her stomach growl more than ever. Bending her head down low and seeking her teeth into an orange, she began to feed herself. Another scent in the air had caught her attention. Ears turning in all directions, she tried to listen and feel the vibrations of hoof beats on the ground. Another kin. But where? She squinted with her skin covered eyes in hopes to detect an outline of some sort. roll 1 oranges 1

Chewing the last of the orange pulp and juices dripping down her chin, Lost strolled over the pile of oranges sitting on the leaf. With a snap of her hind hoof, she sent an orange spinning over to her own pile of fruit. Then she picked up a small orange and carried it back to place it with the others.

Night stopped to watch as more kin came into the field of orange. There were some familiar faces that he'd come across here and there. And even a Zikwa. He'd recognize that hide anywhere now. He was glad to see that the doe had heard of the free bounty to be had. Oranges: 2+3+3+4+2 Roll 5 of 10

Her nose does not lie. She knew that Night was nearby but was not sure in which direction she is supposed to go to cross paths with him. The smell of ripe fruit were overpowering her sensitive nose. Bedtime Story began to gather one orange at a time. There was no point to hoard them all at once since there are plenty of it left on the ground waiting to be used. or moved. roll 2 oranges 4

Rolling a trio of oranges back by nudging each in turn with his nose, Night wondered how many he'd collected. He could keep rounding them up, but if he collected too many, how would he take them home. Oranges: 2+3+3+4+2+3 Roll 6 of 10
