Oscar didn't mind that his parents had to work it wasn't anything too unusual when he had gotten the list of things he'd need for school that morning he had already planed to go and play a game with his team, The Wheel Kings, at the rec center. After some debating, about how to get his books, and letting him go play, and the both of them needing to work so no time, and Lucy. He finally said he'd get his supplies after the game. Luckily Lucy's normal sitter was able to watch her for the day, so that Oscar didn't have to keep an eye on her in the busy streets, much to Lucy's protests.
After playing a quick game with his team that morning he went home to switch chairs before heading out to go to Diagon Ally. Mostly because a lot of the Magic community didn't depend on easier accommodations for his condition like muggles tended to. So he wouldn't need the assistance or elevator if they weren't available. When he realized that he didn't have the money to buy his books he knew he would have to get some or get the key for the family vault from his Dad. "Maybe we can do lunch, if he's got a bit of free time."
He rolled down the street and between the muggles and up to one particular "shop" Purge and Dowse, Ltd but instead of going to the door went to the window and looked at the manikin before glancing around to make sure no muggles were looking before asking for entrance to the Hospital and going though the window into the hospital itself. "Mom's Charm works... well like a charm." he kind of chuckled before rolling over to the reception Desk."Hello Oscar here to see your dad? He forget his lunch again?" The reception Witch asked.Oscar shook his head, "Not today, actually he and mom forgot to give me some money for my books," he said with a bit of a chuckle. With as much effort that his parents did to provide things for him, and Lucy, plus their jobs. It was easy to forget some simple things like their lunches, though his father was far more forgetful than his mother. She normally forgot when she was running late. It some what amused him truth be told."Oh so you'll be starting your second year at Hogwarts, Want me to call him?" she askedOscar shook his head, "No if he's with someone I can wait. Besides it gives me a chance to say hi to others that are worse off then I am, and try to help them feel a little better. I know I can't do anything but try to put a smile on their face but being stuck in one spot all day can't really be too much fun. If you could send a memo to him that I'll meet in the tea room, when he's free, that would help." he said with a smile to which she nodded.

Dorian snapped his book shut and sighed heavily leaning back against the bench he had been sitting on for the past hour. He stretched his legs out and then stood up and made his way down up to the top floor of the Hospital. He could at least spend some time looking through the gift shop instead of waiting for his father to get done with his visit with his mother.
Dorian wasn't sure how to feel about the change of plans. He had been supposed to see his mother, but she had some sort of episode and flipped out before they had arrived. His father had decided it would be better that he stay away from his mother.
While Dorian never really spoke of what had happened to his mother he often feared that the same thing could happen to him one day. The thought scared and kept him awake a lot of nights. To go crazy enough to use a spell on yourself and drive yourself even crazier was not something Dorian wanted to happen.
He paused outside the tea shop and leaned against the wall taking in a few deep breaths. He wasn't really much like his mother, or so his father kept telling him. Why did he have the fear he'd turn out like her? Probably because he didn't want to push away the people who cared for him like his mother had done. He slid down the wall and rested his head against his knees and closed his eyes, the thing he hated the most was that he had been the one to find her after she had hurt herself trying to make herself better. The image of her incoherent and babbling on the floor was stuck with him and would never stop plaguing him.
It didn't take long for tears to form in the corners of his eyes, as the past emotions of fear and horror went through him again. Why couldn't they just go away and stop bothering him? He felt a tear roll down his face and chin and go down the front of his shirt. Great, now he was crying in the middle of a public place where everyone could see him as they walked past. He moved his sleeve up and wiped his eyes and tried to hold the other tears back.

"I guess I'll go up to the tea room first and wait for my dad, before seeing anyone in need of cheering up." Oscar said, "That way I don't accidently miss him when he does have his brake." he said looking to the receptionist who nodded. "See ya later." he added before rolling away.
He got up to the fifth floor and was about to enter the tea room when he saw someone in that I-can-believe-this-is-happening overwhelmed kind of look. He had to be visiting someone, ether someone who is recently hurt or on the fourth floor permeant residence of the closed ward. Though it was normally a look of someone who's relative was a more recent resident.
Oscar thought for a moment then rolled into the gift shop got a chocolate frog and after putting it on his father's work tab rolled back out into the hall and over to the concerned family member. "Here, it'll help," he said holding the chocolate in it's packaging to other. "I know it's not really considered, ... manly to show emotions of pain, but it's better to given into them then bottling them up, or you might end up in the closed ward." he said, not knowing just how close to the mark he was.
"If you want to talk, I'll be in the tea room till my dad shows up." he added rolling a bit backward before turning his seat and rolling into the tea room. He knew not everyone wanted to have someone around during times like these but he also knew that talking it out can help someone feel better too.

Dorian's head shot up at the sound of the other boy's voice. His eyes widened slightly at the sight of the wheelchair the boy was sitting in. He finally reached out to take the offered chocolate frog and held it in his hands.
He frowned at the other's words and moved the box around in his hands. "I don't have a problem showing my emotions," He said softly. "Bottling my emotions up isn't the problem I'm having, it's remembering what happened when I was 8." He said with a sigh.
He watched the other boy leave and go into the tea room. He sighed again and ran his hand through his hair. He could sit out here on his own letting his thoughts and memories get the better of him, or he could talk to someone. He wasn't really wanting to talk to the therapist that his father had hired; that man didn't seem to really do him much good, all he did was nod his head and mumble at him.
After a little while he got up from where he was sitting and made his way into the tea room and looked around for the boy in the wheelchair. He could at least thank him for the chocolate frog and find something else to occupy his mind. "Uh hey, mind if I join you? I'm Dorian Devereaux," He said as he stopped to stand near the oy. "What's your name?"

Oscar swallowed the lump that formed, "Since he was eight? He looks to be older then I am, I guess my joke was ill placed." he thought to himself.
Oscar nodded, "I said you could join me. It would be quite rude to say no," he said with a smile. "I'm Oscar Masterman. Nice.... to... mee....Wait Devereaux?... isn't there a.... Oh man I'm sorry. If I had known that your family member was in the Closed Ward I wouldn't have made the joke," he apologized, "I don't really know her case but I know she's been here a wile. So uh sorry again."
Oscar rubbed the back of his neck. "I sometimes stop in and say 'hi' to some of the current residents, shame to say not all of them have people who come to visit. So it sometimes helps them to see someone who isn't a nurse or a healer," he said taking a lemon and getting some "I guess in here at the hospital my chair can be misleading, and not as out of place as it is at Hogwarts."
"The chocolate should still help you feel a little calmer, might not help you feel happier because your emotions aren't being magically manipulated. " he explained. "So I'm guessing what happened when you were eight, must have something to do with. Ms. Devereaux," the way he said it, it was more of a statement then a question.
"I got some mint tea, if you want a different flavor you'll have to order it." he said as the tea cup was placed on the table and he poured some into the tea cup with the lemon juice already in it. "I prefer mint after a work out to some of the more stronger flavors. It helps with any left over queasyness I might have," he explained, "Though I guess that normally starts before a game not after," he added more as a second thought to himself. He chuckled a little at that thought. "Sorry I've been doing all the talking," he apologized again. "You're in Slyitheren right?" he asked in hopes of it helping to break the ice.

Dorian's eyebrow rose at the boy's reply and recalled the invitation. "Oh right, you did." He said running his hand through his hair awkwardly and then moved to pull a chair out and sat down across from the boy.
Dorian's face twitched at the sudden change of subject and he sighed deeply and set the chocolate frog box down on the table. "It's okay Oscar," He said softly in his slight french southern accent. "Don't worry about it. It's not like you knew that when you were talking to me earlier." He shrugged his shoulders and then reached down to fuss with opening the box.
The chocolate frog popped out and hopped over the table towards Oscar. Dorian's hand moved to catch the frog before it escaped and slipped it into his mouth. He chewed it slowly and glanced up when the boy began to speak again and he looked up to listen closely.
"Yeah it is," He agreed. "I was going to see her today, but that changed. Seems like it happens way too often," He sighed. "It's nice that you're able to visit them when you can." He added.
He raised an eyebrow when Oscar mentioned Hogwarts and a memory came back to him. "Oh, you're a third year aren't you? I recall seeing you around Hogwarts now. Sometimes I don't pay that much attention to younger students; sorry."
Dorian strangely did feel a bit better after eating the chocolate and nodded at Oscar's words. "My therapist is a muggle, so no magic involved. I think he just doesn't know how to help me." He admitted. His chest constricted at Oscar's observation and nodded slowly not really knowing how to open up about it. He glanced around the tea room cautiously, to see if anyone was listening to them.
"Yeah, it did. I won't go into detail though, I'd hate to cause another kid to be scarred by what I went through." He said running his hand through his hair.
Dorian glanced up at the waitress who brought Oscar's cup of tea. "Can I have some black tea please Ms.?" He asked politely. The waitress nodded and left to get him some. Dorian watched as Oscar poured and mixed up his concoction in his teacup. "Mint is okay, I prefer stronger tea myself." He explained.
"Game? What game do you play?" Dorian asked curious about Oscar's reference to a game. "I don't mind," He replied with a slight smile. "You can stop apologizing. Yes, I am. And I gather you are a Ravenclaw," He added with a smirk. "At least you sound like you would be."

"It's alright, you have quite a bit on your plate." Oscar said knowing his mind wasn't quite in the right place to remember a brief meeting with someone he didn't know.
The face twitch didn't go unnoticed by Oscar, he decided to not bring attention to it, but just kind of watch to see if it was triggered by something, or an actual spasm that might need to be looked at. He had a feeling that Dorian already knew about it though.
"Oh, so that is why, you're upset. Sometimes adults don't realize that something like that can be so hard on us kids." he sighed. "But there have been times when those closed ward healers won't even let me in there. Though I'm sure it's not the same for you as it is for me." he said with a light nod. "I can't say I know, how you feel not being able to see your parents as often," he said as he added some honey.
Oscar nodded, "Yeah, that's me, but don't worry about it, I prefer to blend in over sticking out." he admitted.
What Dorian said did hit Oscar a bit, He really didn't know of any therapists in the magical community. It would definitely be something to look into. "Yeah that could make it harder to actually get to the root of the problem then." He agreed. He saw the deflation of Dorian, not that Dorian was in the best place at the moment. "You should tread those waters with someone you trust," he said softly.
Oscar chuckled a little "The strength of it does depend on how long it' steeped, but I do like black, and green, the only one I really don't like is Earl Gray. Even with sweeteners it has a strange taste to me," he admitted.
Oscar looked down at the four on his jersey, then realized that even if he was in the muggle world it wasn't obvious to what it was for. "It's a muggle game called 'Basketball'. Basically a ball similar to a quaffle, and every player is similar to that of a Chaser, and there are five players instead of seven in play, and no magic." he explained taking a sip of his tea with honey and lemon.
Oscar chuckled a little "Yeah I am a bird-brain, I was going to get my supplies today, but my parents forgot to leave me money for my books and potion ingredients, before they went to work today, Which is why I'm here." he explained.

Dorian ran his hand through his hair nodding slightly at Oscar's words. He definitely had a lot going on, more than he had mentioned even. Not that he was about to mention it all to him. There were some personal matters that he wasn't ready to tell anyone.
Especially the strange feelings he was starting to have towards other boys. He had always thought he was straight but recently he'd started paying more attention to them. He hoped no one in his dorm had noticed or thought anything of it.
He felt his face and eyebrow twitch and screwed his face up slightly in an attempt to get it to go away. He wasn't sure if Oscar had noticed or not. He really didn't feel like explaining about his odd facial ticks though. It wasn't something he could really control usually.
"Yeah," He said softly thinking over what Oscar had said. "It is hard. Most people don't even know my mother's in the hospital. She's been hospitalized since I was 8. We moved her here about three years now. It's tough," He agreed. "I see my dad some, just not as much as I'd like. He's got a lot more going on that he's dealing with." He sighed.
Dorian wasn't surprised to hear that Oscar preferred to blend in. He supposed most kids were like that though. They didn't want to be noticed or picked on. "That's not because you're trying to hide is it?" He asked feeling oddly protective of the other boy. He hated the idea that he could be being bullied.
Dorian let out a long sigh at Oscar's suggestion. "The trouble with that is finding someone I can trust. There's not really anyone I know I can trust. Well save for my friend Clover, but I don't want to burden her with all this." He said looking a bit frustrated. He laid his head down on his arms and let out a deep sigh. He really had no clue what to do. He knew it wasn't good to hold this stuff inside and let it fester. If only his father would actually give him the time to listen to him it would help.
Dorian moved his head up slightly to listen to Oscar talking about tea. He shrugged. "It's kind of an acquired taste or so I've heard." He moved up and back when the waitress came back with his tea. "Merci Beaucoup." He told her gratefully.
He added a bit of honey and milk and stirred it into his tea. He listened as Oscar explained basketball to him. "Oh, right, I think I've heard of this game before. I grew up in New Orleans when I was younger. I recall hearing about the game though I never played myself. It did sound interesting."
Dorian found himself smiling at the sound of Oscar's chuckle and shook his head. "Birds are actually pretty smart." He commented and took a sip of his tea. "Oh? I have to go get my own books today. My dad mentioned that I might have to go on my own since he probably going to busy visiting my mom all afternoon. Maybe we could go together." He suggested. "That is if you don't mind the company."

Oscar couldn't really say what the other boy was thinking but he figured he was thinking on someone he could tell. Taking a drink of his tea he did feel bad for Dorian. Yes Oscar had his own limitations but his mind wasn't broken like other's mother. He really couldn't figure out how someone could cope with a loved one's mind was truly broken You really couldn't just pat the guy on the shoulder and say everything will be okay, because for those people it really wasn't going to be those of Close Ward were stuck as fragments of who they once were and really never the same again. All the other floors and the Spell Ward had the chance of getting better or at least getting close to normal. "That's too bad, but maybe he doesn't want to show you his own pain, Parents have a way of trying to hide things they don't want to burden their kids with." he said knowing when his parents argue a bit more loudly then they want they always seem to try and hide it from him and Lucy.
When Dorian explained that there was only one friend he trusted but didn't want to burden her with it Oscar nodded. "Oh well then how about writing your thoughts down, and if you're scared of someone seeing them you could burn the parchment after." he suggested. "Though you may need to read it a couple of times fist to see what is if you do blind writing, in other words just writing and not really looking at what it is you write. I hear it does wonders for writer's block."
Oscar chuckled a little, "Well it depends on how you mean by hiding. I have run into some bullies once or twice. However it's those over compensators that really annoy me. I too have my problems mine are seen so it's easier for people to try and help me when I don't need it. It's harder to help someone who doesn't look like they need it. They tend to be the ones scared of the chair and not know how to act. Sometimes when they learn about it they ease up a bit but others don't. I'd just rather be seen as another boy." he explained he felt like he gave that speech a lot to people.
Oscar nodded. "Yeah, that it is." he agreed he smiled and thank the server as well
Oscar was a bit surprised to hear that. "Shouldn't you be in Ilvermorny then? I guess should know it is a matter of where you are when you get your letter." he said answering his own question. "Sounds so cool to be able to go to different countries. Is it really looked down on to use wands in the America?" he asked only having had over heard someone say it once.
Oscar nodded "Yeah they are." he agreed. "Yeah I don't mind and it does seem you could use it." he said "Besides do you know how to get to Diagon Ally from here?" he asked.

Dorian was a bit surprised at the insight that Oscar was having about his father. He had often wondered if that was the reason why his father limited his interactions with his mother all the time. "That makes sense," he said slowly. "He has kind of done that since it happened." Dorian let out a sigh. "Still, he needs someone to help him. He can't deal with it all on his own. If I need someone to talk to he probably needs someone just as much." He added running his hand through his hair.
He shot a look at Oscar when the younger boy suggested that he should write his thoughts down in a journal or on a parchment.
"That's not a bad idea. I may have to try those ideas." He said after a few moments thinking it over.
Dorian couldn't help but frown slightly hearing that Oscar had encountered bullies who had given him trouble. It sounded like it irritated Oscar more when people helped him without asking to see if he actually needed help. That had to be rather annoying. "I can understand that you just want to be seen as another boy and not different. Some people just focus on the wrong things." He said shaking his head. "It sounds like you have to say that speech a lot," He added. "Does it get tiresome after awhile? Maybe you should think about making up business cards that say, "Look at me, not my chair. Pretend my Chair is invisible." Or something like that."
Dorian smiled at Oscar's question about him being in Ilvernorny instead of Hogwarts. "We moved to England after my mom's accident, cause no muggle hospitals could really help her. That's why I got into Hogwarts." He told Oscar. "Well, wandless magic is a bigger thing there than other places. Probably because the school was founded by magic users in America who didn't use them. It's just as hard to learn how to do though. I have cousins that attend Ilvermorny, so I hear about it all the time." He replied with a grin.
Dorian stopped talking to finish off his cup of tea. Thankfully it hadn't gotten too cold during all his talking. "Oh it is pretty cool to go to different countries, have you never traveled very far before?" Dorian asked curiously as he stood up and collected his things.
"Well thanks," Dorian said smiling at Oscar. "I do know how to get there. I've had to go from here many times before. You ready to go? Or should I give you a little more time?"

Oscar nodded, "That is true, but it's the parent's job to protect their kids, and same for older siblings for their younger siblings." he added. "Still, they sometimes need reminding that it might help to talk about it.... for both of your sakes."
Oscar nodded, "It does get repetitive," he agreed, and thought over the idea. "As good as a pamphlet is, not everyone reads them." he pointed out.
Oscar nodded thoughtfully. "It's probably less noticeable then using a wand." he admitted. "But sharing knowledge with other schools could be really expand things. Though I guess some prefer to keep their secrets." he said with a shrug. "But no beside the Untightened Kingdoms, I really haven't been anywhere."
"Still need that money to... Dad." He said looking over at the Tea Room's door at the man in green healer robes.
"So how your game go? Who's your friend?" Mr. Masterman asked coming over to the table.
Oscar chuckled, "Well, Mage and Spaceman are sick, so Spaceman wasn't able to play today, Kat's family had something come up so, She wasn't there ether. I was hoping to say farewell to them before going back to school. So because they weren't there we did some drills, and a bit of 3 on 3. I think I'm a bit rusty." he told his dad. "Wolf, Shelly and I were one team, X, DJ, and Animal made the other team, Wolf is rather good he's getting use to the area too." he admitted.
He looked over at Dorian. "Dad this is Dorian, He and His dad are visiting his mum, like I am for you," he said, he figured that Dorian didn't want his last name to be let out too much around the Hospital. "I need money to buy my things for school, You and Mum didn't give me..."
His dad chuckled, "Nice to meet you Dorian, I'd lose my head if it wasn't attached. Maybe you should have a copy of the vault key. For future use." He said, "Coming here is easier then seeing your mum," he agreed and started patting himself. "Lets see.... key... key.... ah here they are. Leave em with Lyra when your done, I can't really leave for lunch at moment, maybe you and Doiran can get something after shopping for your books." he said
Oscar nodded, taking the key ring. "Alright Dad, Thanks." he said before looking over at Dorian, "I guess our next stop is Gringgots." he said to the older boy.

Dorian thought over Oscar's words, recalling how his half-sister Kori had been trying to write to him more often. Not to mention she had been asking him if he'd want to spend time together. He had yet to answer her and decided he should probably meet her halfway. He had always wondered what it would be like to have a sibling, and now he had the opportunity to get to know her.
"Yeah, that is true." He said trying to get his mind back to what was going on.
"I imagine that it does. Well it was an idea. You don't have to use it. Maybe you could do some sort of charmed cards that speak to them."
"Also a lot more discrete," Dorian added. "I would agree with that. Maybe one day they will share knowledge more readily, we'll just have to wait to see I guess. There is a lot of places to be seen in the UK, I've seen a few other places besides Scotland and England. Perhaps one day you'll get to go other places if that's what you want to do." He said.
Dorian paused at Oscar's words and glanced over his shoulder to the man that had walked over. He listened curiously wondering who all the people Oscar was talking about were. Perhaps they were nicknames of some sort. He was a bit surprised that the man thought that he and Oscar were friends, but didn't mind really. Oscar was a pretty nice fellow, and he would spend more time with him if he got the chance to back at Hogwarts.
Dorian caught Oscar looking at him before the boy answered and told his father what his name was. He was rather grateful that Oscar left out their last names, he figured most of the workers at the hospital probably knew them on sight anyway. He and his father came rather often.
He smiled at Oscar's father. "It's nice to meet you Sir." He said politely though he wished he knew what the man's name was. He was drawing a blank on Oscar's last name. He should have remembered it, hadn't Oscar told him?
He waited, listening to the father and son's interaction smiling. It sounded like the two had a very close relationship. He wished he had one like theirs with his own father. He caught Oscar looking over at him and nodded.
"Not a problem, I should probably stop by there myself. I was thinking I might be a bit short on funds for what I needed to get." He said ad moved to pull the door open and waited for Oscar.

He didn't quite know what was going on, in Dorian's mind, still it had to be something about Dorian's family as it was a bit of the subject manner.
"That would work for the wizarding community but it would be bad if I were to give one to a muggle." he admitted, "I do like it though,"
"Well I wouldn't say I've seen a lot of places like that, and it would be nice to see me more, but I have seen other places because of a game or something like that." he agreed.
Mr. Masterman nodded, and had already left the tea room.
Oscar smirked and nodded and followed Dorian. "Should you tell your dad you're going on ahead?" he asked as he rolled on over to the steps to roll down to the lobby floor.
Once Dorian did what he needed he rolled down to the entrance floor then told Lyra he'd be back to leave the keys with her once he was done shopping. At least he didn't need to worry about how much he took, as he planned on taking some with him to school so that he could order quills when he needed a refill, after all he didn't get to go to Hogsmeade till the next year.
He rolled from the hospital and onto the Leaky Cauldron, so that they can get to Diagon Ally.
To be continued... in the new rp guild
