Opens: October 1st
Closes: October 24th, 11:59 PM PST

This year, like any other, the village of Asphodel Gardens is celebrating their annual Haunted Hallow's festival in the Gardens Park! Games are practically littered throughout the grounds, and the sound of children squealing can be heard from quite a distance away. Plenty of juniors and seniors are trying their luck with festival games, while freshlings are being guided by caretakers on an adventure to trick-or-treat throughout the village. Costumes of all sort adorn the Nightmare's celebrating the holiday. Do you care to join the celebrations?

            How to play:
            • Every day you are allowed to roll for each of your Nightmares to receive treats or tricks! You also can end up with a familiar, if you're lucky. However, you must RP your character receiving their prize, or doing something in the festival when you roll. It's suggested that while you can roll for every Nightmare you have, you only roll for the amount of responses you can handle! You can keep rolls in one post, or in individual posts.
            • Roll a 20-sided die per Nightmare you're including in the ORP! Odd numbers give you a trick (which you can grab from the prize list found below). Even numbers give you a treat. If the number ends in a 3, 6, or 9, you can also take home a plushie along with your original prize. If the number ends in a 5, you may also take home a familiar along with your original prize.
            • Rolling a treat not only gets your Nightmare a candy/trinket, but also a point! The three people with the most points (the most won treats) will be able to take a Nightmare home with them (which are pictured above). However, only three of your rolls a day can equal your treat tally. If you roll six Nightmare's and five win treats, only three of those will be tallied. Please keep a list at the bottom of your posts for us to easily manage how many treats you have! Failure to do so will mean you aren't included for the chance to win one of the three Nightmare's!
            • Do not delete posts. We will disqualify you from the chance to win the Nightmare's if you do!
            • You may RP quests! If you lack a Nightmare you are allowed to RP an approved quest within this game! If you have more then one quest, you are permitted three quests to play in this game.
            • While most of the characters will receive prizes through trick-or-treating, you are encouraged to create creative situations if you grow bored of your character receiving a prize through the standard trick-or-treating!
            • Characters may trade prizes! Treats can be traded, but keep in mind the points they give you will vanish and be given to the new person! Keep your logs updated!
            • Only take one prize per each roll!

            Free Candy Buckets!:

Your Nightmare is allowed to take one bucket to help them in their trick-or-treating endeavors! They may also take a lantern to take on their outing!

Do you dare try to look into your future?!... well.. it's not like these things are actually real, anyways
But be careful of the cracked one... i hear it can bring bad luck

            Tricks:

            User Image
Who the heck put this in your pail!?

            User Image
At first, the pumpkin goblet looks super cool, but upon further inspection you realize that ... well, it's made out of cheap dollar store plastic and will crack and bend under the most gentle of touches. Bummer ... it has such promise!

            User Image
This is disgusting, and creepy. Whoever gave you this must hate children.

            User Image
Wow. Not only is the popcorn stale, but the candy is a knock-off brand. Gross.

            User Image
Maybe it's just me, but who gives children out of date candy? And it tastes like sadness.

            User Image
This gum looks old, and tastes like a couch.

            User Image
I wanted candy. Not raisins. This is the one day that eating healthy is actually bad. Geeze.

            User Image
A rock? Are you kidding me....

            User Image
Okay that's disgusting. Is it.... real?

            User Image
Oh my deities! It's so scary!!

            User Image
This doll isn't too creepy.... until you turn the lights off. It always seems to be in a different place when you wake up.

            User Image
This locket feels off. It gives a feeling of sorrow when held.

            User Image
These are real.... what.... what in the world?

            User Image
Is that goo or.... slime? It doesn't look safe!

            User Image
IT'S AN EYE IN YOUR PAIL! Oh thank deities, it's just a glass eye...

            User Image
Okay the bones need to stop.

            User ImageUser ImageUser Image
These rocks glow and look pretty, but... They give off an aura of deep sadness and fear when touched. You probably should wear gloves...

            User Image
That isn't blood.... is it? (No, it's not.)

            User ImageUser ImageUser Image
Wow. Wow gross. This is gummy poo! It's candy, we promise, but ew.

            Plushies:
            User Image
            W-What is that?!

            User ImageUser ImageUser Image
What are these supposed to be anyways? I mean, they're cute ... but ... they don't look like any race we've ever seen. They look like elves with weird, mutated ears. Maybe they were supposed to be Hallowed elves?

            User Image
There was only one kind of these Sphynx plushies available, but Ava still seemed to go insanely overboard on them ...

            User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image
Look at the cute little tails on these guys! How could you not want to take one home? These ones seems to be quite popular ... get one before they're all gone! (Although, Ava probably has at least 100 more stashed away in some secret warehouse ... )

            User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image
Vespercat plushies are all the rage these days. Didn't you know?

WARNING: Spider plushies under the spoiler.
            User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image
Spider plushies! Keep them away from Vespercats, though! They might get confused!

            User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image
Oh... the poor toy was left on the ground... Maybe you should take it home?

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image
Bats! Nezubats everywhere! Oh wait, they're just toys!

            User ImageUser ImageUser Image
Seriously, someone really likes bats ...

            Familiars:
            User ImageUser Image
DSKLJHLKGHKLSD. Where did that come from?! Oh, well, it seems the Nezubat wants to come home with you!

            User ImageUser ImageUser Image
Woah, look out! You almost kicked a Pumpka!

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image
It seems that, when you were reaching in your pail, a little Flitterat poked it's head out! Maybe it'll come home with you? (Last two flitterats have two sets of wings, making them mutated)

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image User ImageUser ImageUser Image
Who left this cat in a box? Well, guess the Vespercat is yours, now! (The last three are mutated, lacking wings and a split tail, and have glowing eyes.).

            User Image
These rocks.... don't do anything but stare. They can feel, sure, but they essentially are just rocks with moving eyes. What a strange and frankly creepy familiar.... Someone save us all.

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image
These wisps are just floating about, looking to get in trouble!

            User ImageUser ImageUser Image
Mutated Revenant's are lurking around! (Mutation is glowing eyes! The little wings are a rare revenant trait)

            User ImageUser ImageUser Image
Aaaw, the Fennekit seems to have taken a liking to you! It'll probably follow you home...

User ImageUstule had been hard at work making costumes for the last couple months, both for herself and for her friends. It was nice for Haunted Hallows to finally come around again this year. Today she could relax, go trick-or-treating with friends, and collect candy and other trinkets. She was planning on going with all of her friends. She'd only barely reconnected with Prometheus, so he--and his brother--could be added to the list of people she was waiting for. She figured they'd all be here within the next half an hour or so. Preferably they'd all be here in about fifteen minutes, but...

She went first to the table that gave away free buckets for candy. There was a wide variety this year, but she went with a pumpkin similar to the one she got last year. She smiled. She'd been hoping they'd give out pumpkins again this year. In fact, she'd been counting on it--she hadn't brought hers along with her.

Her night got even better when she saw the lanterns. She smiled, picked one up, and thanked the attendant. But then a hand grabbed her shoulder, whirled her around, shoved an object in her hand, and turned her back around again. "No takesies-backsies!!" someone--it sounded like a senior or another junior--screamed as they raced past. Ustule looked at the object. It was a skull with a wax candle on it. Ooooo-kay. Probably the weirdest thing she'd gotten, but... She shrugged and put it in her basket and went back to waiting for the others.

User ImageUser ImageUser Image

User ImageHisteol hadn't bothered to bring a bucket, either. The one he'd carried around as a freshling was getting kind of old and worn-out. Since pretty much every year they had free candy buckets--or near enough to every year that it didn't matter that much--he'd gone to the festival bucket-less.

He approached the bucket counter with Haint's harness in one hand. "I'd like a--green one, please," he said. Green meant growing things, right? He couldn't wait to see how Perigor described this color!

"Sure thing!" Someone handed him a bucket. Something was rattling inside it. He felt the object and smiled. A poo gummy! He remembered his first Haunted Hallows at the Academy, when Eidil had taken and eaten all of the poo gummies they collected.

"Thank you!" Teo said. He smiled at the lady and moved forward, searching for Ustule and the others.

User ImageQuilo had met some new people at school in one of his classes, a pair of Daydreams named Zuna and Yaviss. It had taken a bit of convincing and some charm, but he'd eventually convinced the other two to come trick-or-treating with him. Surprisingly enough, the same excuse had worked on both of them: Quilo had been trick-or-treating in these neighborhoods all his life. He knew all of the streets and could navigate them well--and he knew where all of the best Halloween decorations and haunted houses were.

He arrived with the other two, having picked them up at their respective dorms. He first went over to the bucket giveaway table. To his surprise, they were giving away miniature cauldrons as well as pumpkins. Well, this as an opportunity not to be missed! He picked up a blue cauldron, as well as one of the lanterns they provided. His bucket already had a prize in it: a bottle of green slime. Eew.

User ImageUser ImageUser Image

User ImageQuite how Zuna had allowed themselves to be talked into going to the fair with a stranger, they guessed they'd never know. But that Geist-Bapho had a magnetic personality, and as a Naiad, Zuna had to give into that sometime. Dressed in their piratical best, they walked alongside Quilo and their other companion, a Goblin. It was easy to understand how a Goblin could have been roped into going, little tykes.

Zuna looked over the buckets with a look of boredom before picking out a bucket that seemed the right color. They also picked out a lantern, just in case. "Alright, so where do we go next?" Zuna asked Quilo. Then they spied someone with a big sack. Score! They crept forward, tapped them on the back and said, "Aarrr! Trick or treat, or I'll be boardin' yer ship and commandeerin' it meself!"

The adult laughed and handed them two objects, a doll and a plushie. "Happy Haunted Hallows! You're so cute!" they said.

I am not cute, Zuna thought with a scowl. They returned to Quilo and Yaviss's sides.

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

User ImageYaviss watched the Naiad run off to harass an adult and sighed. Was everyone in the world just a greedy jerk? Or was it the season? With a mental shrug, he collected a bucket in his favorite color and a lantern. Hey, it was a nice-looking lantern! There was something in his bucket, too--a strange rock. He reached down to pick it up, but was overcome with a wave of sorrow as he touched it. He flinched. What in the ice cold--?!

He resolved not to touch that thing. It brought up...unpleasant thoughts. Quilo was moving forward, and he didn't want to be left behind. But as he started forward, he stepped on something soft. It was a stuffed jackalope. From a distance, it looked dirty, but when he looked at it closer-up, he discovered it was merely dusty and missing an eye. "You'd better not be cursed," he said to the stuffed animal before shoving it in his belt. "Okay, where do we go first, Quilo?"

Kaoru had come along with Hikaru for trick-or-treating, even though the child was getting old enough to do it on his own. The hybrid didn't mind, since even if his father's university was rather close, celebrations like this were when they had the best opportunities to spend time together as family.
So far their haul was rather modest - Hikaru had scored a candy apple from one house, whereas Kaoru received a somewhat creepy locket. It seemed old, and the clasp was broken.. and the pictures inside were all faded and scratched, making it impossible to make out faces.
Let's just hope it wasn't cursed.
User ImageUser Image

Alcor and Mizar were also out together, as the older sibling had a tendency to fuss over the smaller, frail creature he carried in his arms. On the plus side, people tended to find the two of them endearing, so it was pretty easy to get candy? They had only just started, but Alcor already had a bag of candy skulls in his treat pail, which they planned to share later. Someone sneakily snuck a cracked glass eye into Mizar's pail, which managed to momentarily startle the small imp. But a mere moment later he spotted an adorable little Nezubat plushie lying on the ground, and the two scooped it up, Mizar happily placing it in his pail.
User ImageUser ImageUser Image

Amber, Eriu and Ametrine were also trick-or-treating as a family, waiting for Aquamarine to join them at some point. For Amber, this was the highlight of the year, and both of the children were equally excited for free candy and possible new pets or toys!
Amber was giggling over the little paper ghost she'd gotten from an earlier house. Meanwhile, Eriu had picked up a bottle of some unknown liquid, shaking it suspiciously as she tried to figure out what the contents were. It looked disturbingly like blood, but nobody would give kids bottled blood.. right? Ame's only 'prize' so far was a fragile little bird skull. It was pretty rad, but also kind of creepy at the same time. Like.. had someone just killed a bird for the sake of handing people the bones?

User ImageTrick-or-treating felt strange this year for Wyrdda. She was so close to graduating from the academy, after all! This was pretty much the last year she could go trick-or-treating, really. She collected a blue cauldron (such variety this year!) from the vendor and a sweet lantern as well. Thus armed, she held out her bucket to the first passerby and pointed to the sign on her neck. "Trick or treat! I'm mute" it said on it. She'd been wearing that sign since she was a child. This time, it did not have the desired effect.

"Aren't you a little old for this?" the adult said. With that, they dumped something small and white into her bucket. She peered in. Ewwww!! Bones! Her tail sagged and she watched the adult walk away. She didn't have time to flash the other side of the sign--"Thank you so much! Happy Haunted Hallows!" Well, this year was going to be disappointing, then. Or so she thought, because then she felt something nipping at her tail. She turned around to see a fennekit. Wyrdda smiled. The Fennekit yipped. The day got a little bit better.

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

User ImageIt was the first time in years that Melisara would get to trick-or-treat with her brothers, and she planned to enjoy it immensely. She dressed in her costume, collected the boys, and gathered down in the square for the festival. The boys said something about investigating some interesting sight, so Sara waited by the entrance and collected a bucket. This year they were also giving out lanterns, which was handy. It even cast a decent amount of light! Sara held out her bucket to a passerby carrying bags of candy. "Trick-or-treat!" she said.

To her delight, he dropped a bag of chocolate skulls into her cauldron. "Happy Haunted Hallows!" he said.

"You too!" she said.

User ImageUser ImageUser Image

User ImageOriset had asked Wyrdda what she was doing for Haunted Hallows before she'd collaborated with friends on their costumes, so she was surprised to see the Grimm there. "Wyrdda!" She ran up to her friend and tapped her on the shoulder. A fennekit yipped at her feet. "Oh, hello there," Oriset said cheerfully. "You are the cutest, aren't you? I'm going to be seeing a lot of you soon, aren't I."

Wyrdda nodded. She signed, Her name is Vines.

"Good name," Oriset said. "Hey, I thought you said you weren't going to Haunted Hallows this year."

Wyrdda looked embarrassed. I changed my mind. The way she signed it, Oriset was pretty sure she'd meant to say "mind?" Oh well.

"I'm kind of already going with Kuni, Nai, and Jie," Oriset said. "We're going as the four elements." She waved at her own costume, a jumpsuit covered in orange and red sequins. "I see you're a witch, though, you could go with us as the caster?" She had the pleasure of seeing Wyrdda wag her tail. Excellent! The more the merrier. "Alright! Come on, I need to go get a bucket."

She stopped by the bucket counter, where she found a red cauldron. Neat-o! She also picked up a lantern (hey, it matched her costume). Someone handed her a pretty goblet, which delighted her until she saw the quality. Ugh. But her day was brightened when something soft twined around her ankles and meowed. She looked down at the cat and smiled. "Looks like both of us have a friend tonight!"

User ImageDenidar was delighted to go trick-or-treating with both of his siblings this year. It was such a rare pleasure! He'd worked on his costume all month, and now he was picking up a bucket and a lantern. "Y'all never told us about the lanterns," Deni said accusingly to Sara. But then something caught his eye and he grabbed his twin's arm. "Come on!" He yanked Niol along with him in the direction of a pair of plushies lying abandoned on the ground. He picked up one of them, a green one, and looked around. There was no one around. "I guess these are ours now," he said.

Someone passed him by and reflexively, he held out his bucket. "Trick or treat!"

Instead of dropping the candy in his bucket, the person smiled and handed it to him before wishing him a happy Haunted Hallows. Deni was grateful for this on account of the candy being cotton candy. "Score," he said to his twin with a grin.

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

User ImageNiol followed his siblings along to the fair field. His own mask had a very narrow field of vision, so he had to keep close to Deni tonight. "Yeah, Sara," he said. "Y'all shoulda told us about this." He grinned, then realized that his teasing smile was invisible under the mask. He lifted up the mask to show Sara his smile. Before he could say anything else, though, Deni was dragging him along in another direction. Niol picked up the stuffed animal and looked around. "No one here," he agreed.

When Deni held out his bucket, Niol did, too. "Trick or treat!" With a stick of cotton candy as reward, he and his brother returned to their sister's side.

Note: post has been edited after the fact to include reference to a character I did not have at the time. This edit was to prevent continuity error.

User ImageJurvik was glad that his son was going trick-or-treating with friends this year. It was good for Xeno to have some friends! He'd been invited along as well by the friends' parents. He was looking forward to meeting them both. That wasn't for another half an hour, though--Xeno and Nkiruka had wanted to go a little early. Jurvik didn't bother to pick up a bucket (he was way too old for that!) but he did collect a lantern to light there way. "Where first?" he asked the kids.
User Image

User ImageXeno was excited to get the night started, even if they weren't scheduled to "meet and treat," as Evelyn had put it, for another half an hour. The night would be old by then! Xeno and his sister wanted to get started. It hadn't taken much convincing to get his dad to come with him early.

Xeno picked up an orange bucket, this one paler than last year, and held out his bucket. "Trick or treat!" Someone handed him a vial of a dark red substance.

"Is that...blood?" his dad asked.

Xeno shook the bottle gently. The substance fizzed. "I think it's just cola." He shook it again. "Flat cola."

User ImageTalya had never looked forward to Haunted Hallows this much before. Sure, it was a chance to dress up, show off your stuff, and win prizes, but she'd still never looked forward to it much before. For once, though, she felt herself able to get past all of that and enjoy herself today. It was going to be a wonderful night. Her friends would be along later--until then, she was going to do some extra treat-earning. She picked up a pink bucket (an improvement on last year! All they'd had was purple, which was okay, but she preferred pink), and got to work. "Trick or treat!" she said to a vendor, curtseying in her queen costume. The vendor smiled and handed her a bag of candy. "Thank you!" Talya trilled.
User ImageUser Image

User ImageKuni still couldn't quite believe that he had been convinced to go trick-or-treating this year. "Ve're too old for zis," he'd tried to explain. But then they'd discussed a theme, and Kuni had wanted to be Earth, and now Nai was being Air, and...well, he couldn't refuse it, not anymore. So he sighed, bucked up, and got a costume together, brown with green leaves and some sparkles to represent minerals. "Ve're still not going to get much," he warned Nai as they looked for the others. As if to prove his point, someone dumped a pile of bones into his bucket. He sighed heavily. "Und I didn't even ask for anysing."

User ImagePessimism aside, Kuni had a point--no one was going to give them treats, not at their age. "That's okay," he said out loud. "There's a haunted house nearby. We can check that out." He smiled at his friend and picked up an orange bucket and a lantern. He held the lantern away from Kuni--he knew from experience that while Kuni's fear of fire had eased a little since his time out in the woods, he was still a little nervous about it. "Come on, let's find our friends."

It didn't take long to find Oriset--not with those colors. She was talking to her roommate, a Grimm named Wyrdda. Nai absent-mindedly grabbed Kuni's arm and pulled him towards their friends. "Hey, Wyrdda--are you going to join us? Nice costume!" As he walked towards her, he trod on something. A locket? Who had dropped their locket? As he touched it, a feeling of sorrow washed over him. He hesitated, but picked it up anyway. Oh well...

Wyrdda nodded, and Nai smiled. "Glad to hear it. Anyone seen Jie?" There were shook heads all around. Oh well. "When she shows up, maybe we could check out the haunted house?"

User ImageThe plan was for all of the kids--five of them!--to go trick-or-treating together, but Evelyn had a last-minute homework assignment she needed to get done with Lillian. Darryl hadn't wanted to wait that long, so Mesektet had made arrangements with Guereda: all four of them would go to school together. Guereda would wait there while Evey and Lillian finished their homework, and Mesektet would take Darryl to the event early. It was working out quite well--Darryl was here at the beginning of the event, and it wouldn't be long before Evey finished. They'd planned to get done by half an hour from now. Hopefully they'd be done sooner, but it would be hard to tell. Mesektet picked up a lantern with their free hand, holding on to Darryl's hand with the other.

User ImageEvelyn was taking forever. She'd delayed on her homework, so now she was delaying on Darryl's night, and he'd been looking forward to it for so long! He'd been dressed for, like, years now! But Mother had promised to take him trick-or-treating, so that was alright then. He picked up a bucket--he wanted to take a blue one, but knowing Evey, that would be the color she picked. He had to pick something different, so he picked a very dark blue one. He didn't think she'd pick that one--she might not even realize what color it was. He could see much better than she could. He held out the cauldron to a passer-by and said, "Trick or treat!"

The person smiled and handed him a bag of popcorn. Sweet! It was only later when Darryl learned that some popcorn is yucky...

User ImageJie was apparently the last to arrive. Her Water costume had taken a bit of adjusting to get done. But now that the pearls were arranged just-so, she was ready to go trick-or-treating with her friends for the first time. She jogged down to the fair, stopping by the candy table to get a green pumpkin. Okay, ready now. So...where were the other three...?

Someone tapped her on the back. "Interesting costume," a Chimera said. "What are you?"

"Huh?" Jie looked down at her costume. "Oh! I'm Water! My friends and I are going as the four elements."

The Chimera chuckled. "I like it! Here you go!" They handed her a stick of cotton candy.

"Thank you!" Jie said. She nibbled on it as she looked around for her friends. Now where...? Ah, there! She walked quickly over to her friends standing around. There was a fourth person there, a Grimm. It was Oriset's roommate, right? "Hi, every--oh! Hi! I'm Jie." She stuck out her hand to shake.

The Grimm took her hand and shook it with a smile. She made a sign to Oriset, who turned to Jie. "This is Wyrdda. She says it's a pleasure to meet you."

Jie blinked. "Oh! Tell her it's a pleasure to meet her, too!"

Wyrdda's smile looked strained, and she shook her head. "Wyrdda's not deaf," Oriset said apologetically. "She's just mute. That's okay, though, I can translate for her tonight."

Jie blushed. "Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry! I'm so, so sorry."

Wyrdda shook her head and signed again. "Wyrdda says it's okay. She gets that a lot. So, now that we're all here, Nai has proposed we go to a haunted house. All in favor?"

Jie was actually the only person against it. "I'm not really good with scary stuff," she said.

Wyrdda made several signs. "Wyrdda says she's not comfortable with scary stuff, either, but she doesn't think we're going to get much candy trick-or-treating. We're a little old for that. But no one's too old for haunted houses!"

Jie nibbled her lip. "Do they give out prizes there?"

Nai nodded. It occurred to him suddenly that he and Wyrdda were the only two who had been raised at the Academy their entire lives. "Yeah. Candy and trinkets, too. It's not so bad. We can put you and Wyrdda in the middle if you get too creaped out. Nothing will get past the rest of us."

Reassured, Jie agreed, and the five of them (with animals in tow) headed off in the direction of the haunted house.

User ImageSound Lee got dressed in his costume, then tracked down his friends in their respective dorms so that they could go down tot he festival together. Once they'd all gathered, they set out. Sound Lee was excited to go trick-or-treating as a set, although it appeared they would not be a perfect set. Everyone else had grabbed pumpkins while Lee had grabbed a cauldron. Hey, it was blue! But he supposed the pumpkins were bigger...

Sound Lee held out his bucket. "Trick-or-treat?" he said to a passerby. They cooed, called him adorable, and handed him a paper ghost. Sound Lee smiled. "No, that's adorable," he said. He held it up and said, "Thank you, happy haunted hallows!" For someone who didn't talk much, it was a very long speech He looked over at his friends to see what they thought.

User ImageUser Image

User ImageHonestly, Vederat thought as he picked up his green bucket and watched this display. He didn't know if Sound Lee quite understood the point of trick-or-treating. It was to get candy. And yet, when someone plopped a necklace around his neck, saying something like, "Stay safe, stay seen~!" he was delighted. It was so pretty!! "Thank you!" he said to his benefactor. To his friends, he said, "Come on, let's hit the houses."
User ImageUser Image

User ImageYeah, no, that boy needed a lesson in greed. Aura picked up a bucket of their own, a wine red one, and held it out to a passing adult. "Trick-or-treat?" They tried to look their very cutest.

The adult responded acceptably--"awwww!!"--and handed them two objects. The first was a candle on a skull. What the heck?! Ew!! But the other object was a stuffed spider. They could hardly contain their squeal of delight. "Thank you!" they said. When the adult had left, Aurabelle turned to their friends. "The night is young, and our buckets are empty. Let's go."

User ImageCallessa looked around the fair, her face partially obscured by a leafy mask. Where was Eidil? She was due to be here any second now. In fact, she'd sort of expected her girlfriend to get here early. No matter. She looked over at the table of free trinkets. She might as well pick up something right now. This year, her brother had made it very clear that he didn't want her cast-off candy. He wanted her to enjoy her own candy, and sadly, Callessa knew that her girlfriend would agree with this point of view. Cal hadn't had a sweet tooth since she was a freshling. Oh well. Maybe she could share with Eidil...?

She hesitated. Should she pick a cauldron this year? Or should she go with a pumpkin? Cauldrons were smaller, but pumpkins were pumpkins. She looked around at the masses of children and noticed that a lot of the people in masks carrying cauldrons and pumpkins were her fellow seniors. Think like a tree. She could be a child for one night. She picked a green pumpkin and a lantern. "I'm going to embrace my inner child," she told the attendant.

The attendant grinned. "Sweet! Here, take this to get you started." They tossed a bag of caramel eyeballs at her. She caught it only by juggling objects in her hand. Hm, this was going to be tricky... "Thanks! Happy Haunted Hallows!"

User ImageUser ImageUser Image

User ImageBatholith didn't trick-or-treat. In fact, he hadn't trick-or-treated since he was four years old. But Haunted Hallows was still one of his favorite times of year. It was a time of peace and goodwill (at least in the streets he'd grown up in). He'd wanted to get into the spirit of the season, and had mentioned as much to Mr. Calrose. Mr. Calrose had apparently responded by letting his friends know that Batholith was interested in doing some babysitting.

Well, okay, Bath had said something about taking kids trick-or-treating, but dang. Getting him a gig? That was really nice of Mr. Calrose. So now he was at the Haunted Hallows Festival with a couple of freshlings. He was dressed as an escaped science experiment (classy), and trying to convince an attendant that no, he didn't really need a bucket. "I'll take a lantern, though," he said.

The attendant snorted. "Lemme know if you change your mind." They handed him a lollipop. "From the looks of those two," they said in a conspiratorial whisper, "you're going to need all of the energy you can get."

Bath snorted. "Thanks, man," he said. "I have a feeling you're gonna be right."

Fenaret adjusted the goggles on his face and tugged gently on his "experiment's" ragged sleeve. "You should just take a bucket, just in case," he said. "You never know what could happen." He leaned forward conspiratorially. "Besides, Frankie's talking about going all-out on stuffed animals. He might make you carry most of them. Just a warning."

Batholith made a face. "Yeah. A bucket might be helpful for carrying. I'll take one of the black pumpkins, please."
User ImageUser ImageUser Image

User ImageAlright, then, a crisis solved! A future crisis, anyway. Fena took his turn picking a pumpkin, taking one of the lilac ones. The attendant dropped something into his bucket as well, a lovely glowing necklace. Fena squealed with delight. "It's perfect! For my costume," he added. "I"m a scientist!" He slipped the necklace around his neck and stepped aside for his brother to take a turn.

User ImageUser Image

User ImageFrancesca was jealous of his brother's necklace, but he tried not to let it show. It was all in the spirit of the season, right? There were no yellow buckets (BOO) except one of the cauldrons, which looked puny to his eyes. Instead, he picked one of the pumpkins, the same color as their babysitter had picked. The attendant handed him a bag of caramel eyeballs.

"Alright," the little hybrid said. "We ride."

User ImageThis would be her first Hallow Hallow and ever since Samhain had told her about the festival she had been looking for to going. She had dressed up in a more Lolita like dress changing out her roses to purple. Maybe on her way around she could possibly enterain the thought of buying a broom and a witch’s hat. Still that was for later, she was all dressed up and there was festival booths to discover, things to find and experiences to share.

To start off with she was going to grab that chocolate bar that a random vendor was tasting out. It seriously didn’t cause you to scream out every time? Did it?
User Image

User ImageOran hummed and twirled around. She loved Haunted Hallows. There was just something magical about the month of October. She had been in below for a while but her parents had only just recently allowed her to come to the academy. So it was her first time going to asphodel garden’s festival. It was as lively as promised and there were so many things to collect, and so many things to see. She wasn’t sure what to see first. She could go dizzy from the amount of spinning she was doing. She wondered if she’d meet someone. She had heard stories about people meeting their significant others or even their future best friends at festivals like this. It would be fun to meet someone that loved October as much as she did.

Of course she was literally knocked out of her thoughts by something hitting the back of her head. Looking down it seemed to be a glowing necklace?

Vanna groaned as Mai dragged him to the haunted Hallow festival. He had been in the middle of paperwork, and was looking to relaxing and face planting into his couch as soon he got done. Haunted Hallows mean that Hades was distracted because of the crowd and Yami was busy with his children. It was a time where he could just lean back and relax for a while, or so he thought.

Mai had shown up with her good friend, and probably boyfriend considering how those two looked at each other, Ren and decided they were all going to the festival together, to make matters worse once they had gotten there he had ended up tripping over some random potion bottle. Was that… blood. No the color wasn’t right, but he was hardly going to pop the lid off. Why the hell was this lying on the ground... and why the hell was it next to a plushie. Well the plushie was cool and he supposed he could add it to his other halloween plushies
User ImageUser Image

User Image
Mai was on cloud nine: she was feeling well enough to go out to Haunted hallows, Ren had totally gone with her to go get Vanna, and she was able to drag her brother to the festival. Nothing could be better. Well that wasn’t true, Soriya could be here but she knew that was a pipe dream. Her family would never allow Mai’s youngest sister to come to the academy not when both Mai and Vanna had turned their backs on the clan.
She shook her head. No depressing thoughts. She was out and she was going to have fun. Hopefully this time no one starts throwing things like the other festivals. Suddenly Vanna apparently tripped but she was distracted as something was suddenly shoved at her. She blinked and looked down to see a… pumpkin bracelet?

Ren wasn’t sure how Mai had pulled him out of his room. Okay so he did know. She had knocked, he opened the door and then she had proceeded to throw a costume he had joked about the other day on. It was rather breezy and short and well you couldn’t really see it due to the coat he was wearing. Being from above, he was still getting used to the chillier temperatures of below. So after the costume and the coat had come on Mai had then proceeded to drag them out of the school, where she got lost and Ren had to take them to go pick up Vanna.

The fae’s eyes drifted over to where Mai’s elder brother was examining a vile. Vanna still rather scared him. Mostly because Mai and him where becoming more than friends and Vanna was the big elder brother who made more money than a business man his age should make. Ren didn’t want to think about it too hard, which is why he looked away very quickly and grabbed a bag of candies from someone giving them out.

Altani:

Upon arriving at the village’s Haunted Hallow’s festival, Altani drifted over to pick up a pink pumpkin basket and a lantern. Hmm, it seemed to be rather heavier than expected, and she could feel something roll around inside. Reaching in, her fingers brushed against a distinctly plant-like texture. She felt around a little more, then decided to lift it by its long, slender leaves for a good look. Pink eyes took in the expression of agony, the circle of stitches, the teeth. Oh dear. “I didn’t even know that turnips could grow faces. Or teeth.” She stared wide-eyed at this unexpected… treat? Trick, more like.

Well, maybe the turnip’s mood would get better with proper soil and watering and light! (Plus, this way, said a thought, she wouldn’t see that face. This less-than-kindly notion she squelched hard.) The little Grimm trotted off in search of a refreshments table. Least she could do would be to find some water to sprinkle on the poor root vegetable.

Phoenix:

Phoenix darted into the festival with all the bouncy energy one might expect from the fennekit he was dressed as. He had barely chosen an orange basket for all his festival goodies before a ring toss game caught his eye. Five accurate tosses later, he rejoined the moving crowd with a spiral-eyed paper ghost tied to his basket handle and even more high spirits than he started with.

Sindri:

Just outside the festival, there had been someone giving away pumpkin goblets with an edge of desperation that Sindri didn’t understand. In any case, the goblets looked quite attractive, so the Freshling accepted one. Once he claimed a black pumpkin bucket and a lantern, he traipsed over to the drinks table, goblet knocking about inside the bucket. Sure, the goblet seemed a little worse for the wear after its turn in the bucket, but maybe it was just his imagination. Shrugging off the thought, he poured some juice into the goblet. Disaster struck.

Under the weight of the beverage, the goblet bent by its stem, spilling out its contents to the dismay of nearby Nightmares close enough to be splashed. After hasty apologies, the little Chimera studied the flimsy goblet with a sigh. “Aesthetically pleasing but structurally unsound,” he pronounced, his words and sepulchral tone echoing his architect father to perfection. He was quite pleased with himself for remembering all those long words, and self-satisfaction took away some of his dismay.

Ayelet:

“Careful, little one,” Ayelet murmured with a chuckle as someone small collided with the back of her legs. She glanced down at about Freshling height. Nope, no one. But her small neighbor was still close, this time offering a gentle pat on her knee, and this time she looked further down to see a blue and pink Revenant looking up at her. “Hello there! Care for a ride?” she asked, lowering her bright pink cauldron. The Revenant clambered in with a little help from the Elf junior. Once the familiar was all settled in, Ayelet resumed her leisurely stroll through the festival grounds, with the occasional narration for its benefit.

Aurelia was giddy as all get-out to participate in Haunted Hallows, dancing about as she was guided around while wearing a cute little costume; a sugar skull style skeleton. With her pumpkin bucket in one hand and cute little lantern in the other, she skipped and twirled around with pure joy. She actually set her things down for a moment and to perform her own version of a scary skeleton dance, much to the amusement of the caretakers. When she returned to retrieve her bucket, imagine her surprise to see...a skull with a candle on it? That was weird....but pretty cool in her opinion. Just as she was thinking of where she might put it in her dorm, she caught sight of something else in her bucket; someone put a cute little pastel colored skeleton plushie!

Iolanthe stayed close to the caretaker that was guiding her group around, the nervous fey glad to be surrounded by other people for the sake of safety and yet also incredibly nervous due to so many unfamiliar faces. Still, it was a pretty sight with the festival going on. Io was dressed like a little witch, clutching her little pink cauldron in one hand and Loxie in the other. The little fey looked forward to getting treats with everyone else. The caretaker told Io to stay put as they wrangled up a couple of stray freshlings, leaving the witch fey standing alone. A tap to Io's shoulder caused her to start, looking over the shoulder to where the tap had come from but saw no one there. She heard something go 'thunk!' in her cauldron bucket and felt a weight there that wasn't there before, looking into it to find a strangely glowing rock. She reached in to touch it, suddenly getting the saddest feeling from it for no apparent reason before she pulled her hand away. She'd just....leave it at the bottom of the bucket for now.

Kohaku was highly amused by the fanfare and pagantry that came with this holiday, taking the opportunity to enjoy it as a child rightfully should; in costume and with lots of candy. Dressed as a rather fine looking wizard, the little baphomet strolled confidently alongside of the caretaker that led them and their classmates around to gather their precious treats. A small crowd of freshlings ran past the baphomet, knocking into them a bit and throwing them off balance. Once Kohaku had regained their upright position, they heard something rattling in their bucket. Looking inside, they found a curious bird skull in there. Kohaku just stared at it for a moment, wondering just what sort of bird this was from.

User Image Sign had decided to go trick or treating he saw that there were caretakers all about watching all the various freshlings on their hunt for candy. Sign picked out a green candy bucket and headed out dressed up as a rockstar, the thing he wanted to be so much. He was already kinda spooky so he didn't want to dress up has a mummy or vampire. Sign grinned as he ran up to the first trick or treat location. He knocked and said cheerfully "Trick or Treat!!" Sign hoped he would get something good, though a trick might be fun too. Sign grinned he saw what he wanted out of the treat bucket. Sign picked a really cool glowing jar on a string he pulled it up and put it in his candy bucket for safe keeping. Then Sign picked a really cute though he wouldn't say that out loud bright green plushie.

User Image Gwen was so thrilled she spun around looking at all the games she could possibly win a plushie at. This was her chance to expand her collection in a big way. She was so excited. Gwen picked up a lantern at one of the booths giving them away. She then went to go look for the first game she would attempt to win a plushie at. Gwen grinned lifting the lantern to make a spooky face for the fun of it, she felt like a freshling again in this wonderful event. Gwen bit her lip, still trying to decide which direction to go and what game to play. Gwen decided not to take any candy today, not in the mood. She instead turned to the games and chose a bobbing for apples booth. Gwen took the pencil out of her hair then she dunked her head in the water, coming out dripping, she had grabbed an apple. Gwen smiled and picked out a lovely spider plushie. She was careful not to drip water from her hair on her new friend as the water ran down her hair.

User Image Aedus was strange, he was actually kinda happy right now. This festival would give him a chance to welcome more familiar to his family, Aedus really needed to get his parents to build him a menagerie before he got in trouble with the school for taking care of so many familiars in his dorm room. Luckily Aedus was able to take his crew of familiars to his parent's house every weekend. Aedus attempted a ghost balloon dark game, he hit a target, he grumbled as he learned he had only won some candy no familiar this time around. Just a treat oh well. He grumbled again, he was determined though to win a few familiars during this festival. Aedus went and grabbed a lantern and he picked out a silly ghost for the heck of it. He figured he would hang it in his dorm room it looked as grumpy as he felt.

User Image Cybelle calmly went over to the booth giving out lanterns, he took one then wings tucked to his back he went to look and see what all there was to see at this festival. He saw a number of things that looked kinda like fun. Cybelle wasn't the type to jump up and down with excitement, so he just calmly went towards another booth to see what was going on. Cybelle solved a complicated Halloween pumpkin puzzle he was giving a trick and a treat in a way. Cybelle laughed when he was given spooky broken doll. He wasn't sure what it was for really, but he figured he would keep it anyway. Cybelle smiled softly when he was given a patchy little flitterrat, Cybelle put his arm down so the little fellow could climb onto his arm and up to his shoulder.
