|
An ominous dark smudge that appeared to stretch for miles began to spill over the distant sand dunes, coming to a halt as the city on the plateau comes into view. Up on top of the plateau, a single guard in a watchtower along the edge peered out over the sands with his spyglass, attempting to get a better view at the patch of inky darkness. "What in the name of Shar...", the soldier stammered as his spyglass fell upon the front line of the skeletal abominations. Horror washed over the soldier's face as the darkness enhanced skeletons began to form ranks, as if being commanded. He immediately dropped the spyglass and grabbed a torch from a nearby stand, running over to a large unlit brazier and bell. He lit the brazier with the torch, an intense flame springing to life within as he proceeded to beat the bell vigorously with the torch stick. Soldiers down in the military camp looked up as the bell sounded, the burning warning flame causing the men to scramble for their weapons. "We have contact, everyone get yer weapons and form ranks outside the camp. NOW!!!", battalion sergeants called across the camp. Braziers along the wall of the city begin to light as archers begin spreading along the battlements, "Methinks that's no bandit horde, sir.", a lower rank archer said, partially numbed by a twinge of fear, to the ranking archer. Ra'Sha looked at Vas'Kaa, the same thought running through both their minds. Vas'Kaa nodded, turning on his heel and rushing for the forming battalions as Ra'Sha's wings formed and the Highlord rocketed into the night sky. As he flew higher, Ra'Sha saw the wave of darkness staining the sands like an oil slick, as far as he could see. "By Shar...It's an invasion force...", he said aloud to no one. Warning bells began to sound all throughout the city, citizens scrambling for shelter as the Guard begins to charge through the streets to prepare the defenses. Firin'Rai looks to the walls as the warning fires come alive, bells echoing over one another in alarm. "Oh boy...This just got a bit complicated.", he said, partly to Selene and partly just to himself.

Firin'Rai bit his lower lip for half a second, thinking on what to do. He had been tasked by their Goddess to escort Selene to the Onyx Obelisk, but their city seemed to be under alarm. "You realize if we stay then you may exhaust the energy that the shard gave you. You might die, and the Lady of Night tasked me to get you to the Obelisk.", he tried to explain but knew that he simply couldn't leave the city to whatever was attacking. "Why now?", He said as he half jogged through the streets towards the city gate, Guard Regulars shouting orders to civilians to get to shelter as they begin setting up barricades within the streets. "We have to find the Highlord. He'll know what we should do. The captain said he was going to the camp to wait for him, hopefully he's back by now.", Firin said as he led Selene past the military checkpoints being set up in the city as they headed towards the gate. Meanwhile, the front line of darkness enhanced skeletons began to come together into several large groups. The skeletons hissed dryly as they begin to pile over one another, forming disturbing conglomerates of bone and dark ichor. the piles began to writhe as the cracking of bone filled the air, the conglomerates forming bone catapults using the dark ichor as the tension lines. The undead Ss'Kul'Kyns of the Carapace Horde let out a sickly gurgling hiss as the pockets of undead creatures begin to burrow underground, digging tunnels out toward the plateau as numerous dark skeletons filed into the holes after. Mable watched the abominations form their ranks and siege equipment, "I never even got to see the city.", Mable said sadly, her brother scoffing in a harsh tone. "Why would you even want to? It's full of disgusting mortals. If there is one good thing to come out of herding our "Master's" creatures around, the pain and misery of the aftermath will be exquisite.", Sable hissed, as he watched with his arms crossed and his tail snapping around behind him. Mable sighed, "I guess...", she said, doubt beginning to fill her.

Ra'Sha watched as the skeletal abominations began to form siege equipment from their own warped bodies, a furious golden glow emanating from his eyes as he clenched the handle of his holy sword with the grip of a titan. "Not if I can help it...", he said aloud as he was about to fly into the midst of their ranks. "But the question, Ran'Ke, is can you REALLY help it?", a twisted yet familiar voice echoed out. Ra'Sha looked off toward where the call echoed from, his grip on his blade tightening as Ran'Ku's newly demonized form hovered before him with arms crossed, the cracks of darkness on his face pulsing as his eyes of blood glow with fell power. "So...you decided to show yourself. I see you changed your skin, no matter. I will end you, Ran'Ku!", Ra'Sha shouted with power of his own as waves of light energy began to ripple off of him. His skin took on a silvery sheen as his hair became like white gold, his feathered wings beating with strength as he flies towards Ran'Ku with his blade raised to strike. Ran'Ku chuckled, making a yawning gesture with one hand as Ra'Sha swung his blade down over his brother, an arc of light trailing the truesilver blade through the air. The upper pair of glowing abyssal eyes opened on Ran'Ku's forehead, startling Ra'Sha enough for Ran'Ku to open palm swat the blade from Ra'Sha's grip with relative ease. "What...no...impossible...", Ra'Sha said in a shocked tone as Ran'Ku gripped his brother's throat with the same hand. "Oh no, it's quite possible. And just so you know, this is only the beginning to YOUR end.", Ran'Ku hissed as he spun in midair, using the sudden momentum to hurl Ra'Sha down towards the plateau, the stunned Highlord hurtling towards the plateau's surface like a bullet. Ra'Sha hit the ground with enough force to dig a trench along the ground as he slid across the rocky surface. Firin'Rai exited the main gate via a smaller Guard door just as Ra'Sha slid to a halt at his feet, a groan of pain escaping the angelic Highlord. Firin looked at his Highlord in shock, then turned his gaze up into the sky at Ran'Ku's imposing visage. "I think we may be in trouble...", Firin said with a hint of fear in his tone. Ran'Ku placed his hands on his hips and bellowed a crazed laugh.

Ran'Ku spun in the air as the beam struck his chest. He hung in the air slouched over as if in pain then immediately straightened his hovering stance, turning back as the layer of skin that was burned away knits back together to leave a dark crack on his porcelain skin. Ran'Ku chuckled, intensifying into manic laughter as he held his hand in the air, a dark spot forming within his grasp and elongating into a blade of dark crystal. "Nice try, girl. But your weapons cannot stop me! Ossified Catapults...FIRE!!!", Ran'Ku howled, his twisted voice echoing across the vast distance between him and his Legion. Several of the skeletons with dark scorpion tails piled into the bone baskets of the catapults, as they are then launched through the air, followed by a loud dry hiss of a warcry as the rest of the Legion of Bone charges the military camp. The launched skeletons land several hundred yards ahead of the rest as the Bel'tha'gian military digs in for impact. Ran'Ku's laughs continue as he swings his blade straight down, a massive crescent of crackling negative energy easily the size of the main gate shoots towards Firin and Selene with blinding speed. The crescent makes contact with the edge of the plateau, literally dissolving the ground in it's wake as it thunders towards the gate. Ra'Sha stood quickly as he saw the arc of darkness streaking towards them, using both hands to push Selene and Firin clear as he raised his golden clad right arm. The arc of negative energy collided with Ra'Sha's open hand, holding for a moment before sliding the Highlord backwards at a very fast pace. Ra'Sha slams against the massive metal gate while trying to hold back the arc of negative energy, the metal squealing as he is pushed further and further back before the hinges of the great gate shatter and the whole thing comes tumbling down, as Ra'Sha is pushed back into the Plaza of the Lower Ring. Down below, the soldiers ready for the skeletal monsters attack, confident that they are prepared for the assault. Their confidence fades quickly as several holes burst open mere yards from their own front line and hordes of dark skeletons as well as the decaying Ss'Kul'Kyns emerge.

Vas'Kaa, spearheading the central most battalion, raises his blade in the air. "All or Nothing! CHARGE!!", he roars as the roars of a thousand soldiers echo after. The Bel'tha'gian soldiers charge the skeletal abominations with blades ready. The first battalion collides with a group of skeletons that emerged from underground, blades stabbing into the black ichor that makes up the creatures' "skin". The four armed monstrosities rip the blades from their bodies, grabbing the offending regulars and literally ripping them in half. Terror washed over the second battalion as they saw their comrades torn to pieces, "HOLD THE RANKS!!", Vas'Kaa shouted, "Second Battalion, move to aid First! Third Battalion, divert those Ss'Kul'Kyn! Go, GO!!", he called as he cut his way through several of the skeletal monsters. Ra'Sha managed to plant his feet into what is known as a Roots of the Mountain stance, making him immovable. With a great deal of strength, he diverts the arc upwards into the sky, smoke rolling off of his gauntleted hand as he takes in deep breaths. Firin descended the elevator into the empty military camp, "I hope it's still assembled...", he mutters to himself as he runs towards something covered by a large tarp. Removing the tarp reveals a solid caelium ballista with a special belt and mechanism designed to rapid fire bolts made of charged Irok'Cael. "Yes! Thank you, Siege Brigade!", Firin said to himself as he took up the seat in the rear of the siege machine, rotating a nearby winch to rotate and raise the aim of the ballista until Ran'Ku was in the crosshairs. "Say goodnight, you son of a...", Firin whispered as he pulled the firing lever. A red tipped bolt slung out of the ballista, lighting on fire in mid air as it screamed toward Ran'Ku. Without even looking in that direction, Ran'Ku spun in midair and heel-kicked the bolt as it flew through the air, diverting it's course to the middle of the ground battle as a fiery explosion lit the night air for a second. "Nice try, whelp. But you have NO chance.", Ran'Ku hissed as he held out his free hand, a pinpoint of negative energy forming and expanding at a rapid rate until he holds an enormous ball of concentrated negative energy within the palm of his hand. Hundreds upon hundreds of black bolts of fire erupted from the massive orb, streaking all over the battlefield and engulfing anything they touch, several hurtling towards Selene as if directed.

A the explosions within Ran'Ku blew out several holes in his body, but instead of blood and gore only black ichor leaks out. Ran'Ku began to laugh once more, the holes closing as the ichor seals the wounds with black cracks. "Against someone of flesh and bone, that might have worked. But I was formed by the screaming souls of ancient beings manifest into physical form. I have no vitals to destroy, girl. The same cannot be said for you.", he hissed as his crimson eyes flashed, telekinteic energy binding Selene in midair. No matter how much energy she exerts, Ran'Ku's mental hold is far too strong and he draws her closer to him. He holds out his free hand, dark ichor forcing through the pores of his skin until his hand is completely black. "Let's see just what makes you tick.", Ran'Ku hissed maliciously as his blackened hand forms into a dark claw. He thrust his clawed hand into Selene's stomach, the negative energy coating his hand devouring her biotic energy as fast as she can muster it. Pulling her close to him, he opened his upper eyes and peered into her mind. "Ah, Reapers, eh? They sound divine, I shall welcome their arrival to my new world when you and those who stand against me have been slain. Such a shame that one with such looks has to be so.....good.", Ran'Ku hissed as a dark grin cracked across his face. While his attention was occupied, Firin pulled the firing lever as another bolt was loaded into the ballista. The smoky white tipped bolt soared through the air with unnatural speed, it's keen edge slicing through Ran'Ku's forearm and breaking his hold on Selene. Ran'Ku growled in fury as black ichor pours from his arm, the dark liquid writhing and forming a new arm.
