[ KB ] 1. This show, ZatchBell or something, is odd, and a bit lame, but mostly just odd. Odd? Actually, it's pretty typical...... more boring than anything else. It's another one of those multi-hundred episode animes that does little more than make money for thep producer, like Naruto, DBZ, Bleach, Inuyasha, Pokemon, and those other such series. One of em pops up every year or so and annoys people for years to come

Pokemon had a lot goijng for it. People like to dismiss it as a crappy little trend, but it held it's own. With the help of nintendo they even produced a few enjoyable gameboy titles. Helps spring the progression into furthering the gameboy to color and such, along with Zelda.
In any case... yeah, it seems sort of linear.

In any case... yeah, it seems sort of linear. By Pokemon I refer solely to the anime that was based on the games. The card game I enjoyed for quite some time, and it was in the spotlight until Yugioh started to take over. The animes of the same names are both crap..... actually, each one has about 2 or 3 animes, all of which are crap.

The series had their moments, nearly all of which were Team Rocket at work. The later shows got lame and annoying, then just out of hand. DBZ has a few cool games, and their fighting style is blunt and straightforward. Not good, but it could be worse.
Moral of the story, crappy anime can still be ok, because great anime usually comes in movie installments.

*Reappears to post quietly in the night.* ninja EDIT: Uh... I'm looking at the post dates here... read the direction of the guild thread for the most part but I'm wondering if I missed something. Are we not posting in the Citadel or the Dojo? EDIT2: O_O *Is wide awake at 5AM watching the BGA 5th game championship and listening to the AC* Mastema Odd? Actually, it's pretty typical...... more boring than anything else. It's another one of those multi-hundred episode animes that does little more than make money for thep producer, like Naruto, DBZ, Bleach, Inuyasha, Pokemon, and those other such series. One of em pops up every year or so and annoys people for years to come Because I absolutely love yattering about anime with Mastema and I had completely forgotten about it until this moment... Naruto: Manga > Anime; but still annoying as hell. Spawned a few really good fanfictions written by really good writers. Fails horribly on screen. DBZ: These days, its not hard to hate DBZ as the embodiment of all that has gone wrong with the anime world. But I'll be damned if I didn't tune in religiously every day to watch it all the way though. Bleach: I haven't seen all of the anime yet, but the manga's pretty good. So far the action is well done in the anime, but the storyline gets a little... :eyeroll: after a while. Inuyasha: ..... *sigh* I believe this describes it pretty well. Pokemon: Now here's another one that I would label like I did DBZ except... >_> If you're up for a shock, go pick up the manga of Pokemon, or the original unedited Japanese episodes. This series was so perverse at times that its no wonder they only did a limited release in the States. Yeah, and props to Da Rat for this one.=============================================== The moral of the story? Go pick up Death Note or GANTZ if you're up for a trip. Get Backers or Airgear if you're looking for entertaiment in a good read. Psychic Academy or DNAngel if you're a Shojo fan. Full Metal Alchemist or Hunter X Hunter for Shonen. Ghost in the Shell or Evangelion if you're looking for Sci-Fi (Yes, I said it TJ, I'll go that far with you =P). Eyeshield 21 or Hajime no Ippo for Sports. If you're looking for something that's just... odd, go pick up Battle Royale or the unedited version of Wolf Rain.

If you're looking for something that's just... odd, go pick up Battle Royale or the unedited version of Wolf Rain. As bad as DBZ really was if you examined it, I will acknowledge it's cornerstone place in anime history. It pretty much set the bar for over-the-top action moves and being-beaten-to-a-bloody-pulp scenes (at least in the uneditted version.) In fact, I more or less see Naruto as what DBZ would be if you attempted, albeit a failed attempt, to add story to it and tried to give a valid physical explanation for how the techniques work........ oh yeah, and if you took every bit of hot-blooded masculinity out of DBZ. Same goes for pokemon. Good or bad, anything that's spawned so many sequels and ripoffs obviously held its own against bad criticism. And I know what you mean about the perverse nature of it. Additionally, it gets props for being one of the few, if not the only, anime to hospitalize many japanese children just by watching an episode. I admit I liked Inuyasha at the start. It actually looked like it might have gone on to make a very good story that had a lot of room to flesh out. After about 20 eps, it started to repeat itself and was already making filler eps. If you want to maintain that Inuyasha was original, I suggest not watching past the first 3 dozen eps. You're better off watching until the main villain gets destroyed/beaten the first time and assuming the story ended there. I really rate Bleach in the same place as Naruto. The only difference is the setting and theme. I also point out that both Naruto and Ichigo have the same hairstyle and both wear the most unsuitable clothing for carrying out their duties. We're on ep 8 here I believe.... the story was 'eyeroll' from ep 1. I've seen a few of your recommendations. To the sci-fi end I'd like to add The Melancoly of Haruhi Suzumiya; nice ficition anime which is funny and very well executed, albeit on second review there are a lot of plot holes in the backstory if one looks closely enough. If you really aren't into action based anime, then Mushishi is an excellent fantasy anime based on Japanese folklore. There's no central story, but each ep definitely has its own story to tell. If you want something that's 'like' Evangelion but not as spread out on the psychological stuff, go with Eureka seven. For all the action Naruto/Bleach/DBZ has only without the failed attempt at being inspirational, then go with G Gundam; the series doesn't attempt to take its own backstory seriously and makes up for everything with hardcore super robot fighting.
