Dating wasn't easy, or, rather, it didn't come easily to Sugar. Lavender was wonderful; perfectly so. She was everything Sugar had wanted, but that led Sugar into a constant battle of 'am I good enough'. Usually, she landed on the answer that, no, she wasn't, but she'd try her best to become what Lav needed. It wasn't anything Lav did to make her come to this conclusion — Sugar was just naturally pessimistic in nature when it came to herself.

Yet, despite all her flaws Lav never seemed to falter in her love for Sugar Petal. Even when Sugar dropped a tray at work due to her nerves, or when she spouted the wrong thing at the incorrect time Lavender didn't care. Lav's love was unconditional, and Sugar found herself drowning in the joy of it all. This had been what she dreamed of, and this was their reality. She couldn't be happier, even if she struggled with her own flaws. Lavender made it all okay, and for once, Sugar didn't want to give up on herself. One day, she'd be where she felt she needed to be for Lav. As long as the purple and silver pony was by her side she could become anything.

These sentimental thoughts had accumulated, leading Sugar into a flustered state as she perched on the bench, hooves flipping through a wedding magazine. They had decided to meet by their favorite lake, and Sugar had arrived first. She wasn't one to normally jump the gun so quickly, but Lav and Sugar had grown up together; their lives were intertwined since the beginning. Sugar had begun to fantasize about proposing, or being proposed to, either worked. Wedding magazines had found their way in her home, leaving her stomach in a flutter. If Lavender saw she'd just about die in embarrassment!

The things she did with Sugar were so nice. She'd always loved spending time with her when they were just friends, when they were kids. How at home she felt beside the other mare, in their quiet moments together, just feeling Sugar at her side, her eyes downcast and contemplative. Those soft, intimate moments were some of her favorites. As a loud, outgoing type of girl, she found solace in her softspoken girlfriend, a chance to relax and decompress from their hardworking days in their cafe.

So their low-key dates were fun. Dinner dates, cooking for one another, walks, amusement parks... anything. Lav loved everything and anything as long as it was with Sugar. Her beautiful, amazing, girlfriend. Sometimes she couldn't believe that. They were actually together and nothing was ever going to tear them apart. In fact, Lav sometimes... well. If they were staying together, and were going to shoot for forever... why not make it official? Why not tell the entire world about their committment? She fantasized about taking that next step... but of course, they had to talk about it first right? You can't just spring it on your girlfriend so suddenly - 'Hey like, I totally want you to be my wife? Wanna get married?' Adults had conversations first. They talked about values, and what they wanted, and long term plans. They... prepared more than a pretty ring and a handful of garbled words that crumbled in their minds like a badly formed cake.

Lav shook the thoughts out of her mind and walked by the lakeside. They had a lot of dates here... it was pretty, and had flowers and everything. She didn't want to be late for their date though, because the silver mare couldn't resist staring at the water. Hurrying along, she spied her girlfriend at a bench, idly flipping through a magazine. She approached, and peered over at the other pony. "Hey Sug! Whatcha got there? Is it like, a cooking mag?" Lav peered over, and saw... dresses? Was Sug getting into fashion now too?

Yushika: 11/02/2017

You know, despite Lav being the louder one, she often managed to surprise Sugar. Stealthy whether by intention or not, it wasn't uncommon for Sugar to find her heart skipping in alarm when her girlfriend arrived, and right now was no different. Releasing a soft gasp in surprise, Sugar contemplated slamming the magazine shut. That was suspicious — don't do that. Instead, her head raised, a small, genuine smile reaching her face that was often reserved for the silver mare.

"Wedding dresses," She admitted faintly. "I wanted to try making a cupcake resembling one." That wasn't a lie, although it wasn't the entire truth. Baking was something she still found herself struggling with time to time, but it mattered to Lav and the business and so she had begun to pick it up. Gently, she moved the magazine away and into her lap so Lav could settle beside her.

Purp: 11/17/2017

"Oh, Sug, I didn't mean to, like, spook you!" she said with a laugh. She looked down at the magazine, now more clearly seeing they were in fact bridal gowns. Oh, and they were so pretty. "I see why you'd wanna try making a cupcake based on one! They're like, totally pretty. I can help you, you know."

Lavender settled beside Sugar, and flapped her wings excitedly as she snuggled close to her girlfriend. "Bridal stuff is kinda cool, like, in general. Have you thought about if... you ever wanted to wear one? A dress, I mean... at a wedding." She flustered a little. Lav could easily imagine her girlfriend as a bride, in soft colors and flowers, hair pinned up lovely, that beautiful smile on her face-- Lav looked away and laughed. "I think I probably wouldn't be much for a dress, like, personally. As pretty as they are."

Sugar shook her head gently, letting out a soft laugh. "It's okay, I spook easily."

Nodding softly, Sugar pulled up the magazine into her lap at her girlfriend snuggled close, shifting into the comfort. "I'd love your help. I'm still not the best at baking yet."

She was getting better, of course! It was to be expected if she was going to keep running the cafe with Lav. Her cheeks flushed at the next comment, flipping her bangs to cover her eyes. Her... in a dress? It was a generic comment, but her mind naturally flashed to wedding dress. Not just any dress! She would love to be in a wedding dress... with flowers adoring her gown and a beautiful veil...

And to see Lavender standing at the end of the aisle, waiting for her-

Oh! Her head snapped up nervously, hooves flipping a page for distraction. "Of course, but... oh, I don't know. I doubt I could pull it off."

Purp: Last Friday at 11:22 AM

"You'll get there, Sug. Like, you're already totally leaps and bounds better at all the cooking stuff than you were, like, even a few months ago. It just takes practice is all," she said, kissing her girlfriend on the cheek.

She beamed. "And you could totally pull it off! You're so pretty!" Lavender paused for a moment, and looked back down at the magazine. Maybe she was just doing it for inspiration, but... she had to ask right? There was no way she'd know otherwise. That was a huge part of why she wanted to talk to her girlfriend. Sure it had been so light, so fluffy, just dating casually. And honestly, it felt like nothing had really changed between them, except now they kissed, and it was incredible. But she knew if she just dwelled quietly on her feelings, between the two of them nothing would happen. They almost didn't date in the first place because of it.

"Um, actually, Sug, can we talk? About um, like, us?" She didn't want Sugar to be nervous. "I mean, I was just thinking, and like, I'm not breaking up! God, no! Just, you know..."

She fidgeted a little, her wings moving gently so as not to disturb Sugar. "We've been together a little while and all, and well... have you, like, thought about getting married one day?"

Yushika: Last Friday at 1:43 PM

"You really think so?" Sugar looked down at the magazines, nodding softly. Everyone started somewhere, and with someone as skilled, wonderful, patient, and beau- smart as Lav, she was sure to catch up in no time.

What she hadn't expected was for her girlfriend's final question. The words 'can we talk' always sent a flash of insecurity through Sugar, although she didn't think Lav would start a serious, relationship ending conversation with that. Lav understood her worries and fears; she'd never purposefully upset the unicorn.

So when a different, almost just as serious conversation came up Sugar visibly withdrew from Lav, head snapping back and body leaning away. It wasn't disgust, evident as her eyes grew wide but she remained still; it was pure shock. Married? Her expression morphed into a poorly masked nervous smile as her eyes swiveled to look away, hooves tapping together.

"I m-mean of course I have," She stammered, cheeks heating to a darker color. No, this could all ready as not wanting to, and as nervous and flustered as Sugar was, this conversation was important. She didn't want to make Lav ever feel like she didn't want her.

"I mean," Sugar tried again, turning to face Lav, although her eyes stayed on the magazine, a normal habit for the shy phony. "Yes. When I was little it was.... I-I always wanted what my parents had, but as I grew up... and we...." She made a smooth gesture towards the two of them. "We.... started dating.... I.... I started to fill that blank image of who I'd marry with...." Nerves! "With you?" It wasn't a question, why'd it come out like that?! "B-because we've always.... maybe not romantically but we've always been together. I can't imagine anyone else.... and I don't want to....?"

That was it, the nerves got to the tiny phony as she squeezed her eyes shut and flipped hair over her eyes. Oh gosh, oh wow, oh jeez, that wasn't even fully what Lav asked! She had just asked if she wanted to get married, not all that.... other stuff. What if Lav didn't feel the same? Oh, that was a nerve inducing thought!

Purp: - Last Friday at 3:43 PM

Sugar flustered and Lavender watched her carefully, feeling the heat in her cheeks as well. It was important! They had to be adults too, they couldn't... just rush in. They weren't little fillies anymore. Still. It wasn't easy to be mature.

"With me?" she asked. Of course, she was the same way. She had thought of getting married eventually, and well. She thought of Sugar. She thought it would be nice if she got to have that life with Sugar Petal. "I've like, really loved you being at my side, Sug. I... I couldn't imagine anyone else being there, either, you know," she said, smiling.

"I actually really like that, like, about us. We always seem to be on the same page... even if we don't communicate that real well to each other," she said, laughing a little. Why was she so nervous? Lavender knew her girlfriend was often nervous -- insecurity, shyness, all of that. But Lavender herself felt it creep into her heart.

"I don't ever want to leave you. And well... if we're like, totally gonna be together forever, maybe... it would be nice. To think of a future together, with you," Lavender said, her voice soft and gentle. "I'd want to let everyone know how much I love you, Sugar."

Yushika: Last Friday at 4:02 PM

Sugar listened intently, drinking in every word. A part of her, the one that always knew Lav and her were a team, wasn't surprised. Another part of her was. Why her? Why was Sugar, the insecure and quiet mess of a phony blessed with this wonderful and patient girlfriend? Lav was perfect; utterly and completely perfect for her, and to hear that the grey and purple phony also wanted a forever with her left tears in her eyes as she looked up, peeking through long bangs.

"I-I want that too," She answered honestly, looking back down at the magazines. "I love you so much that I want the whole world to know about it." It seemed silly to say, but a nervous giggle left her as she spoke. It was true! She was so happy, she wanted to spread that happiness.

"And it'd be wonderful to bring our families together into one..." She added softly. They both came from large and loving families. To unite them under their promise to love one another forever? Well, that was beautiful.

Purp: Last Friday at 8:05 PM

"Our families... and like. You know. Having our own family," she said with a smile. She loved growing up with her brothers and sisters in the family restaurant, it'd be like that if she and Sugar had kids. Little hooves, running around the cafe, she could imagine it. The help would be nice, even if they decided to pursue their own jobs later on.

Gosh, she was really getting a little ahead of herself. She needed to focus on the here and now, her beautiful girlfriend in front of her. Tearing up. Oh, oh...

She wiped the tears from Sugar's eyes, leaning in to kiss her. "I'll always wanna be with you Sug. You like, shouldn't be surprised to hear that. I've loved you forever, and you're totally my best friend, okay? I couldn't think of anything better than that."

Yushika: Last Friday at 8:28 PM

"Our.... own....?" Sugar felt a wave of nerves hit her, mouth parting as she considered it. Kids. Their kids. Little fillies and foals of their own. Oh, she.... she liked that image, a lot, but - but what if she wasn't going to be a good parent? What if she was a failure? What if-

Her thoughts had begun to speed up in their anxious little dance, startled quiet when Lav reached over and brushed tears from her eyes. She recongized the movement, closing her eyes and gently kissing Lav back before pulling away to nuzzle her cheek against Lav's shoulder, seeking the comfort that always came when they touched.

"It's not that, I just..." She shook her head against Lav's shoulder, laughing faintly. "I'm just happy."

Purp: Last Saturday at 8:49 PM

"Ah, yeah..." Lavender realized she just sorta dropped that on her girlfriend as well. But surely...

"You'd be wonderful. You are wonderful, Sugar." She smiled as Sugar nuzzled against her. happy. Happy. Happy. God, Lavender was happy with her. She felt like she spent ages fearing the worst outcome, one where she couldn't be with Sugar, where her sweet pink girlfriend didn't want her back. Where she ruined their friendship and none of this got to happen.

Instead, they were at the lake together. Touching, warm and comforting. She leaned her head on Sugar's, breathing in. She looked out at the water. Well. She had the chance to ask.

"Hey, I'm really happy with you too. Happier than I've ever been. We should, like... totally do it. Marry me, Sugar Petal."

Yushika: Today at 5:28 PM

Sugar flushed, head shaking gently. "I- thank you." Her? Wonderful? Lav didn't lie, though... she had to just trust in the part of Lav that believed in her.

She tucked herself against Lavender's side, eyes closing against the warm comfort as she allowed herself to drift into a peaceful calm. That was, until words were spoken that jarred her system. Her eyes flashed open, head raising to look up at the grey pegasus as she pushed herself upright. For a second, all she could do was part her mouth as stared, eyes progressively getting wider.

And then she smiled.

Sugar Petal let out a laugh she didn't realize had caught in her throat, head nodding hesitantly before picking up speed. "Of course!" She blurted, leaning forward to kiss Lav with a boldness that rarely showed. "Of course I will, Lavender Lemon."
