"Because there is a difference between killing your enemies and making a spectacle of it. I shouldn't have done what I did to them." Yet to him it felt so right at the time. Almost instinctive. That was what he didn't like. It had felt so good to inflict so much pain. Felt good to watch them slowly slip down the spikes under gravity's pull. He tried to banish that thought from his head and talked about what Vivian had said about the past. "You don't seem to understand that the past never stays in the past. Everything you did yesterday effects you today. Deals you made, people you met, people you screwed and screwed over. The past shapes the present."

“A human hunter hangs the heads of their kills on the wall and uses their skin for clothing and rugs, yet they call us the monsters.” Vivian scoffed at Alexander’s guilt over making a spectacle. There are those who would argue that she was a monster long before she became a vampire. It wasn’t until she turned that she had the strength to act on her desires. “Those who don’t fear you, look to you with awe. Or is there another reason Amelia treats you so different than the rest of us I should know about?” She didn’t even treat Ross, a new blood Amelia herself had turned, so well as she did the Lord Impaler. Something that was going to cause problems for the Coven Leader sooner rather than later. Of course when it came to the immortal, sooner was subjective. “Whoever they were obviously didn’t want to kill you, or you would be dead. Nor did they want you to come back. I doubt the past will come to get you unless you go looking for it.”

"You walk a thin line, Vivian. We must mind who we call monsters." That was all Alexander would say about that. When it came to the topic of how Amelia treated him Alexander gave a slight shrug. "In the short time I've been awake I have learned to to try and figure out why people do what they do. Too many mysteries to distract me. " Besides, if it was more than Amelia being kind he would find out eventually so it was not an issue. The issue he wanted resolved were the ones he did not know about. The ones that were stolen from him. "Good, I hope the past comes looking for me. I can get some answers that way. Can you honestly tell me that if you woke up without any memory in some far away city, that you would not want to know who you were? Think about everything you would not have if you couldn't remember it was yours. Then try to imagine the feeling of getting it all back."

As agreed, Amelia arrived at Alexander's tomb as the sky began to lighten. Unlike his previous guest, she came prepared with a blanket, pillow and change of clothes. Also unlike his previous guest she wasn't going to try to force him into sleeping with her. She knocked on the tomb door and waited for Alex who pushed the stone tablet to one side for her. Technically she was stronger than him, but rather than be insulted she appreciated the gesture, giving him a kind smile when the door was open. “I appreciate you letting me use your home Alexander. I couldn't help but notice your hesitation, however I thought it better not to point it out in front of Ross.”

"I generally try to avoid drawing attention to this place. Bringing the ring here... I just don't feel comfortable with it. Regardless, I understand that this is one of the safer places you can test the ring." Alexander explained as he closed the giant stone door. He had be finding, recently, that it was beginning to get easier to move the door. He suspected it was because he was practiced but it could have been anything. "You know that I am more attached to this place than I should be and you know why."

“On the contrary.” Amelia began as she stepped into the dimness of the Tomb. The modernization of certain aspects were jarring in their contrast to their surroundings. A couch sitting next to a coffin with ancient looking symbols on it. “I find your attachment to this place appropriate given your situation. Though we have carefully recorded everything here and stored them at the manor, there is no replacing the real thing. Who knows what hidden gem we might have missed in the data collection, and be lost forever should this place be destroyed.” She set her things down in a neat pile on the couch and turned to face Alexander. “I only wish our attempts to translate the inscriptions, or even find what part of the world they were from had been more fruitful.”

Alexander grimaced slightly as Amelia spoke. He appreciated her respecting his obsession with his past. "I suspect that one day I'll lean in a spot I never have before and a manual will pop out of a wall telling me how to translate the inscriptions." Alexander tried to lighten to mood with an unrealistic joke. In reality he would probably learn the truth when someone came to put an end to his unnaturally long life. Alexander walked over and adjusted a few things to make the place seem cleaner. He picked up some papers that were sprawled out atop the coffin and put them inside it before resealing it. They were just more notes he had been studying. Rumors of an ancient language that had only recently been uncovered. So far some of the symbols matched but not enough for a conclusive declaration.

“Or perhaps a secret chamber will be revealed, though hopefully unlike Mr. Jones you will not destroy your home in the process. I suspect Indiana Jones, Lora Croft and Rick O'Connell all would have long been fired for their destruction of irreplaceable ancient artifacts, yet are all revered as historians in their respective universes.” It was all delivered in the cool tone with the slightest hit of amusement, but there was a reason Amelia had a reputation as an ice queen. She hid behind an armour of cool politeness and manners to hide whatever it was she was really thinking. Even that small amount of amusement was a rare thing, but then there was something different about Alexander. When they first met she should have been furious. Hunters and werewolves impaled in a display that would have revealed the supernatural to the humans in no uncertain terms. The Lycan were furious and if it hadn't been for The Negotiator the very agreement between Pack and Coven may have fallen apart. She should have demanded his obedience, killed him, or driven him out of Direwood for the safety of the town, and yet she found a strange compulsion to help him. For a century and a half she carefully kept others at bay, yet this immortal she found herself seeking the company of in a way she could not explain. “I must admit, I am a bit anxious. I have never seen the sun before and the only time I felt its rays was a very painful experience.”

Alexander smiled but said nothing in response to Amelia's comments about the famous movie archeologists. He had plenty of time to watch movies but he hadn't really devoted all that much of his attention to it. He had more important issues to consider so movies had only ever been a factor when he was waiting for something- probably a very long manuscript- to load on his computer. A secret chamber would be appreciated. More storage room would go a long way. Alexander kept that though to himself but the large pile of books and notes that were not so neatly shoved in the corner may have betrayed him. When Amelia spoke of the sun Alexander's attention was drawn back to her. He did not remember the sun or it's shine. He had seen it only once and it had burned down to his bone within a matter of seconds. He had avidly hidden from it since then. He didn't know what everyone liked about it because it was only a source of torment in his mind. When he awoke- alone, starved, and afraid- the sun had been the first thing to hurt him. He imagined it was the same for all vampires. "It will be alright. If it doesn't work I'll go out and make sure you get back inside."

Amelia doubted Alexander would have time to go out and pull her back in. A vampire of her purity and age would not last long in the sunlight. However, she wasn't so foolish as to allow herself to be fully engulfed by the light without knowing if the ring would work or not. Still, she appreciated the sentiment of his volunteering to experience the burning of the sun should the worst happen. "I thank you, Alexander. Wish me luck." Though as she headed towards the entrance of the tomb she wasn't sure what 'luck' was. A daylight ring could bring a lot of problems to her town and attract some very unwanted attention. Once she reached the door Amelia looked at it with conviction and didn't hesitate in opening it a sliver. Early dawn light came streaming in, in a thin line. Curiously she dipped her hand into the light. Almost immediately smoke began to rise and she quickly withdrew. Then she slipped the ring onto her thumb. It was meant for a man so her slender fingers were much too small. It was even a bit large on her thumb. However, this time as she dipped her fingers into the light nothing happened. No smoke, no pain, nothing. Despite herself, a smile spread across her lips. Quickly she moved to open the door just wide enough to slip out. After all, Alexander was still within and needed protection from the light.

The world was in a way that Amelia had never experienced before. The suns golden rays backlit the leaves of the trees and danced along the grass when only half an hour ago it had only been darkness. The early morning mist swirled around her feet as she stepped further away from the tomb. It was all so beautiful when one had time to appreciate it rather than burning alive. Perhaps there was something to the new blood's melancholy of no longer being able to experience the sun. As she wandered further from the Tomb Amelia came across a strange site. Three humans were also in the cemetery. Though perhaps not strange in itself, it was the time of day which made it odd as well as the way they crouched around one of the headstones. Alexander's fears about his home echoed in her mind as she continued to walk forward. There would be no returning to the Tomb. At least not the way she had come. One of them stood and though her face remained expressionless she felt fear wrap around her heart. The Order of St. Dominik.

It was nearly an hour before Amelia returned to the Tomb. The hunters had bearly paid her any attention and they hadn't stayed very long. Despite popular culture, the supernatural didn't spend a lot of time in cemeteries. Alexander was unique in that way. Still, she didn't return until she was sure the cemetery was once more abandoned. She slipped back in and pushed the door shut. "The Order of St. Dominik is here," Amelia told Alexander, her voice much calmer than she felt.

Alexander watched with more interest than he'd ever admit as Amelia pried open the door and light spilled into the tomb. He retreated to the wall with a few small steps in order to avoid the light that came through but he kept Amelia in view. He had doubts about the ring working and a little fear that the sun would engulf Amelia and that would be her end but when the sun came, the coven leader did not burn. She did not retreat from it and she did not squeal beneath it. Instead she continued forward into the sun and out of Alexander's view. After that he could do nothing and with each minute that passed his fears only grew worse. He hadn't expected her to be outside for so long. After thirty minutes he was forced to shut the tomb door because the sun was growing too high and beginning to occupy too much of the room since Amelia had left the door open. It had been an unnaturally difficult task because he rarely tried to move the door in the day and as a result, the sun burned his hands quite badly. His fingers had only been out in the sun for a few seconds as he tried to pull the door shut and in those few seconds his skin blistered and then paled as it turned to ash. It had burned down to the bones and they had blackened as they began to burn too.

Once the door was shut again Alexander began the process of wrapping his fingers with bandaged to allow them time to heal. The sun was always the hardest thing to heal from in his experience. He had finished his left hand by the time Amelia returned and when she did his work was amplified. When she reopened the door to enter, Alexander had been sitting on the stone coffin itself- directly in the path of the incoming sunlight. He lifted his bandaged hand to cover his eyes as the sunlight poured in and in the next moment his entire body blurred. A gust of wind ripped through the tomb as Alexander threw himself out of the sunlight and onto the floor. The light had hit him for about two seconds and the right half of his face had blackened already. His cheek was pale in a few places with ash and most of his left side held a similar appearance. The light had hit his left side more than his right. Alexander said nothing because he understood it was an accident but he could not deny it had irritated him slightly. He was mostly just relieved to see Amelia had survived. That relief was filled with a new dread as she spoke. "Where?"

"They were in the cemetery examining headstones." Amelia explained as she crossed the room over to the couch where she had previously put her things. She seemed strangely unconcerned with Alexander's burns, looking over him once, then tilting her head slightly to one side as if she found it odd. "I can't say where it is they have gone since leaving, but I intend to find out." A slender hand reached in between the folds of the blanket she brought and she pulled out a bag of blood. Hw surly had his own hidden around here somewhere, but just the same she approached Alexander and offered him the only currency that really mattered in their world. "My apologies." A fresh meal ought to help him heal a bit faster.

The various burns he had received so that Amelia could go for a walk in the sun were the last thing on Alexander's mind as she handed him the blood bag. He drank quickly but cleanly and when he was done his body began to slowly mend. It would likely be back to normal in a few minutes. "It'll be harder to track them during the day because only one of us can leave and I have a feeling you'd rather it be you." Alexander began to explain "We should look around the area they were searching when we can. Perhaps we will be able to figure out what they were looking for from there." Alexander began to unwrap the bandages around his fingers from when he had shut the door because the healing was completed. The problem still remained that they would have to wait until night or Amelia would need to don the ring again to explore.

"I'm not planning on tracking them. At least not personally. I am a rich, yet reclusive business owner who rarely leaves her estate. To be seen skulking about and following The Order of St. Dominik would be unwise. Fortunately, we have someone who is neither Vampire or Lycan and has an interest in steering the notorious hunters away from Direwood." Amelia, of course, was speaking of Nathanial, The Negotiator. Even ten years ago she would have been screwed, trapped in the cave with no way to contact the outside world or be forced to wear the ring to contact the ex-hunter and reveal what she was in possession of. Luckily, not only had mobile communication been created, but it had become ubiquitous. So, Amelia removed the cellular device, punched Nathanial's name in the little electronic phone book and waited for him to answer. If he did, she would tell him about St. Dominik.
