While the rest of the world complained about a dry season, a lack of food, or the fact that it was so very dull at whatever time of the year it might be... A certain leopard was more than content to point out that he was most assuredly in a position that was far more advantageous than their own. Admittedly, it was so advantageous that he couldn't quite grasp why anyone hadn't decided that it was such an excellent quality of life that they too, deserved to participate in what it had to offer.

Suffice it to say that Calder was baffled by the nature of some of those that lived in the Savannah, and he vaguely recalled that at some point he had promised he would explore this phenomenon in greater detail. Alas, procrastinating was one of his many strengths, and years had passed since he had made that promise and the closet he had gotten to explore was the odd 'ruin' or two.

His mother would be proud of him.

No, really, there could be little doubt that his lazy mother would have been proud that her son was enjoying some of the hedonistic life style, even if he hadn't embraced quite as much of it as she had.

Today was of no exception for him, as he lay on his back and examined his tail as though it held the answer to one of life's many great questions...

The more he thought about it the more he realized that he didn't really know a whole lot about some of the other species. Sure he knew what they looked like, but had never really gotten to know one personally.

It seemed as though he was now going to have that chance. He personally didn't have an issue with any of the other species, he figured it was more of an on the basis sort of deal. He was sure there were a lion or two that he disliked, it would most likely be the same for any other species.

Orange orbs glinted as he looked around and spotted a black and deep blue colored leopard not to far ahead of him lounging around on his back. Well, this seemed interesting enough for his first encounter with a leopard.

He found his way over to the leopard rather quickly and slowed down once he got within a good distance of him and looked at him curiously. "What are you doing with your tail there?" He asked as he watched the male examine his tail. Areo would say he was lying if he said he never did such a thing, so he figured he'd just ask what he was doing.

"It insulted my mother," he declared dramatically and released it from his grasp; his paws then fell, with a delicate 'thump' against the rocks he was reclining on. He then inspected the interloper more closely, tilting his head back to admire the approaching lion. Tall, dark, handsome and standing out rather strikingly in his jungle - ah, but he could positively hear the swooning that would result from his presence from here. There would be many a gusty sigh and fanned paw, and probably some invitations too.

"So I figured I would have a talk with it, let it know what's what and how wildly inappropriate it is to make such base accusations," he continued with his charade for a moment longer and then chuckled. With a mild 'argh' he rolled on to his stomach and gave a mild stretch, finally resting his chin on his paw. If Areo had ever frightened another individual with his presence, it would be in striking comparison to the leopard who seemed entirely at ease.

...It was a quality given to him by his mother.

"They can just be so rude sometimes, I'm sure you can relate," he said and nodded to the male's tail. "But what brings you in to my jungle, hm? We don't get many of your sort this far out of the way."

"How rude of it." He replied as the male let go of his tail, his orange gaze watching the dark blue length of it swaying downwards.

Nodding his head he spoke, "Good. Clearly it needed a good talking to if it was bold enough to insult your mother. I know I'd do the same if mine were to ever be rude about my mother." Anyone would rue the day they insulted his beloved mother. She was the kindness and most gentle lioness ever.

She was a saint!

"I can definitely relate." Sitting down he kept his gaze cast upwards. "I was just traveling through."

"Another one?" Calder arched a brow as Areo informed him that he was travelling. Calder had met more than a fair few of those in his time, some of them incredibly young, but this one seemed to be comfortably matured. Unsurprisingly he rolled back on to his stomach and regarded the male with renewed curiosity.

"You haven't lost your name as well, have you?" he asked thoughtfully.

He remembered that lioness from many, many moons go - she had eventually discovered that name of her's using methods he hadn't entirely understood. She had introduced herself as one thing, then in their next meeting, had reintroduced herself. Quite frankly, the leopard hadn't really understood what was wrong with the first name to begin with.

"Met a few of those before," he explained. "Still don't understand what's wrong with their first name to the point they need to find a second one..."

is he talking about Mati??? LOL
(and omg I screwed this quote up the first time)

What a peculiar question, "I have not...." He was curious to know the reason for the question. There had to be some sort of a story behind that. Then he answered the question he was about to ask.

"Ah, that had to of been interesting to say the least. I'm not sure how one could forget who they are." The notion almost seemed bizarre to him, though Mati had a habit of forgetting where and when she was.

"I'm Areo." He said introducing himself.

"Wonderful, then this makes for a refreshing change," Calder smiled as he observed the dark lion. At least on this occasion the leopard wouldn't be required to give profound guidance or speak in riddles to somehow provide these lions with inspiration. It had worked for the lioness...but it hadn't worked so well for the grey lion who had followed a few years later. It had been a touch unfortunate, but Calder hoped that he had found his own place in life eventually.

...Inspiration came from strange places to say the least.

"I don't think they forget who they are, I think it's some sort of spiritual rite in which they believe they have an additional name. A touch bizarre to me, but I'm sure it makes sense to them. My name's Calder though and I can assure you that's the only one I have."

"Hopefully you're off to somewhere interesting though, or is mindless meandering the latest fashion nowadays?"

Nope lol, but he's met both Septsis and his mother so he's quite used to Swampies passing through. xD

Sorry I literally just found this one when I was updating some of my journal with RP links for the ones we'd finished.

Listening as the male explained on it wasn't entirely the same thing Mati had, she had true memory loss while it seemed this particular crowd just discovered more about who they were. Giving a little frown he wondered if perhaps there was something out there to help her but that was for another time, for now he was just out figuring out who he truly was and learning what he could about the places around his home.

"That's quite fascinating, though I would have to say I'm quite glad that I just have my one name and that's it."

Thinking about how to answer him he paused for a moment. "I am on a personal mission to get to know some of the nearby prides, but between that it is a bit of mindless meandering. It's quite relaxing to not have to worry about making it somewhere by a certain time." Just doing his own thing, it was nice being his own boss.

"I can get behind that," Calder smiled, truth be told he wasn't quite as lazy as his mother but he had never been struck with wanderlust either. He enjoyed conversing with those who passed through and learned a great deal from them in the process, but he was more than happy to remain at home. He was a 'busy body' here, involving himself in the running of this particular area of the jungle but beyond that...

"There aren't any in this immediate vicinity," he added after a moment and then shook his head. "But based on the number of travellers that do wander through I would imagine that this is a thoroughfare, or nearby is anyway," he clucked his tongue. Each and every one of them had looked different so he could only assume there were prides somewhere nearby.

"Your meandering paws are likely to find you another place to explore fairly soon I imagine," he mused and then glanced over his shoulder. "If it's of any use to you I knew of one who pushed straight through here and out towards the other side. They seemed fairly determined to go that way so there must be something over there?"

...What that location was remained to be seen, Calder hadn't thought to ask, he'd merely observed the lion who had been in a bit of a hurry!
