Ayume sat in her usual spot in the gardens of Squad 11, looking up at the moon. It was a full moon tonight, and it seemed to be glowing with taunting malice down at her instead of offering the solace and serenity she usually found by it.

She sat in the rounded gazebo that was shaped like a lotus. She wore a simple training outfit today, a black tank top, wrapped tightly around her slender and curvy physique, black pants that were loose about her legs, but tight at her hips and ankles.

But even practicing her hand to hand combat had not made her feel better. If anything it had frustrated her more.

What was the cause of this tiny woman's ire? Her captain. Of course. Nicholas had been off this past month.. he'd been more distant than usual with the other captains of the Seireitei, and today he'd taken it a step further. He'd demanded her absence... which was rare. And infuriating.

Every breathe she took was devoted to him - and he hadn't ever pushed her away in such a way. He'd been short with her though she had not done anything to upset him...as far as she knew.

Her blue eyes tore themselves away from the moon to rest on the hordes of flora that surrounded her, the serenity of the quiet garden, void of much noise but the bustling of creatures that had made their home in this area of the sky. She had thought sitting out here would have brought her clarity, or perhaps helped her think her way through, to figure out the issue... but she found nothing of the sort.

A sad sigh escaped her, and she closed her eyes, tilting her face up to the sky again, her brows curved in irritation, letting go of her surroundings, attempting to meditate her stress away.

Nicholas let out a sigh from his lips. His eyes were on the pinkette, watching her from the nearby lotus dome. He leaned against it, half conscious between two different subjects on his mind. One was a constant wondering of what was on his Lieutenants mind as she looked up at the sky. The other was...Anxiety and annoyance, a whole mess of things regarding the secrets that he had found. His hand felt the glassy surface of the dome he leaned on, rubbing his skin against part of its ridges and feeling the slight bite of cold from it.

Just a day or two ago, he'd ordered her to stay away from his side from awhile and put her on a temporary lockdown, restricting her from participating in missions. This was because she'd hinder his thoughts too much. She was a crutch in his resolve, and a serious point in his thoughts. She'd been an input in too many of his decisions, and he was fully aware of it. This one he had to make though couldn't be influenced. But each time he thought of the end result, it tugged at something inside of him.

If he really planned to go through with leaving, could he really leave her behind and brave a road of hate and pain on his own?

That always came up. Even with her not around to spoil him with her constant presence. All the same though, he didn't think he could just take her away from her home to follow him on his mission. He'd prepared with losing his home, his old way of life, and even his identity and presence in the hearts of those within the soul society. What he didn't prepare on was losing her. It should have been easier. He had no clue why he couldn't continue to think of her as some sort of pawn, he instead viewed her as someone who he began to appreciate more than he thought possible. That was dangerous. The more empathetic he became towards her thoughts and feelings, the more it began to impact himself.

He had to tell her at least. Nicholas had to let her know, that he was leaving, and she may never see him again. Or if he saw her, he may have to hurt her. Even if it put a damper on his plans by having someone know, it wasn't just anyone. It was Ayume. He had a path of pain to walk alone, he couldn't ruin her life and take her, however he'd get the brunt of it done with on the night beneath the starts in the gardens.

    "Ayume.."

Nicholas spoke up her name, moving forwards to step away from the lotus structure and towards the gardens. The flora that gathered along the ground of the garden caught his attention under the moonlight, however not as much as the pinkette. Quite the scenery, for hearts to break.

    Everything is changing, you know."

Her mind had almost been cleared, except for the one constant on her mind. Her captain. Nicholas Azurian. His face was still floating in her mind eye. It was her constant concern. Ayume..."

Jeez. Her eyes opened, and she almost believed for a moment she'd just been imagining his voice, but the pressure that he hid very well reached her senses. She tilted her head down to look less at the sky, but kept her eyes across the horizon of the moonlit night, the clouds of the night at the same level of which their squad resided.

Their paradise in the sky. Her home.
Everything is changing you know." It was then that she turned to look at her captain, her blue eyes staring at him for a moment, before reaching down to pat the seat next to her for him to come sit.
"I feel these changes in my soul, in your distance, and by lack of comfort the kisses of the moon gives me tonight." she told him softly. "Please, Taicho. Come and speak to me." She'd always been softer toned, her words strange and out of shape to most others. But Nicholas had always been the one to appreciate that most.

Nicholas let his eyes settle on the sky that lay stretched out before him. Ever since he found out the news, not even that view looked the same to him. He couldn't look at almost anything the same. Especially because if he let himself get too consumed in his ambitions, he could one day be tearing that sky down. He could be tearing his entire home down. But that wasn't who he was. Nicholas didn't want to believe he was hell bent on destruction. He only wanted what would be the best for the soul society.

After she spoke to him, he felt something eat at him inside of his chest. He didn't want his distance to impact her so much. Come the next night, they could be an entire world apart. His Lieutenant asked for him to speak, and he took a moment to enjoy her sweet voice. Soft, calm, beautiful. One that managed to portray all of what she was feeling in a way that soothed him. He nodded to her and walked over, moving to sit next to her. Once he did, he took in the sight of her for a moment. The pink tresses, skin that was near pale, but smooth all the same, her blue eyes that could almost always catch his attention. Full lips that he'd been more than just attentive to at times. He took her in solely because he wanted an image of her that he'd remember while he was gone. Something he could swear to himself to never forget.

Once he was done, a small smirk tugged at his lips as he looked up at the sky like she had been doing before. The expression on his face was one that only she had gotten to see before. It was the look he had whenever he knew he was forced to hold composure. When he knew any other expression would leave him weak. His eyes looked heavy with emotion that didn't befit his smirk, which would tremble for only a piece of a second every now and then as if wanting to fall. "Ayume, do you think someone can be brought into existence only to become a horrible person? That someone has to be a necessary monster and give up everything he wants because of what's needed?" He ask, giving a small 'tch' and dropping his smile for a second to look down and grit his teeth, eyes closing to hold back anything from coming. It only lased a second, but after it was done he opened his eyes once more, a small smile on his lips. His eyes may as well have been dead with how much held back emotion they held. "I just feel like sometimes...sometimes you need to give up on what you really need to fulfill the needs of the many. Even if it means becoming something that's vilified. But by doing something so selfless, is it really enough to retain the sanity and the morality of..." He paused then, catching himself. He was there to say goodbye, not pour whatever remained of his heart off. A small, half-hearted chuckle left his lips. "Look at me..rambling on like an idiot."

When he sat next to her, she turned her body to semi face him, her hands folding neatly in her lap. Her blue eyes looked at him expectantly, her blue eyes examining him. Often times, in the academy she'd been scolded for staring. As a soldier, she'd been scolded by officers and the previous lieutenant alike for staring at her captain but now she did so openly, for no one would dare raise their voice about the matter now.

When asked, she told them the simple fact of the matter: "If I do not stare, if I dare blink, I miss the finite expressions on his face. He's so good at covering up who he is that I have had to become the master at seeing through the cracks of his mask. I am not being rude... you are simply not naturally observant."

She'd nearly been beaten for that remark once... but never the less she's never once taken it back or said anything different. And so it was, while she openly stared at him, she caught the small movements of his mouth that every other person was so likely to miss. She saw the emotion that only she knew he held so much of.

None the less, even though to her his distress was clear and obvious, and she could tell that it was an unusual amount, she stayed perfectly still as he began to speak. She did not make a move to touch him, nor did she say anything to comfort him. She simply waited.

She knew him well enough to know that eventually what would bothering him would come to her. No matter how hard he struggled against it, and she knew that he did, they always orbited around each other.

"Ayume, do you think someone can be brought into existence only to become a horrible person? That someone has to be a necessary monster and give up everything he wants because of what's needed?" She stayed silent, watching as he looked down, his true expression breaking free for a just a split second before put on that glass smile once more. "I just feel like sometimes...sometimes you need to give up on what you really need to fulfill the needs of the many. Even if it means becoming something that's vilified. But by doing something so selfless, is it really enough to retain the sanity and the morality of..." When he trailed off, she sighed, and looked at him patiently as he attempted to laugh at himself, commenting on himself a rambling idiot.

"That did not seem like rambling to me, Nicholas. For your original question, I do not believe there is such a thing as horrible people. Horrible actions... yes. But each action a person does is driven by a need, a belief, or an ideal. Even if a person knows what they are doing is not right, there is a solid reason behind their actions. It is not another soul's place to judge another on their actions... for no other being will ever truly understand another's reason. When a person is vilified by a plus, it is lack of understanding and the ignorance of that group of people. We are a beautiful species in the fact that everyone's mind is like a snowflake - even those who operate similarly to others.. they are unique. Individual to ones self."

Ayume's words were steady, her voice that tone of soothing comfort she would offer no body else but this man, and while her tone was calm, her body still and motionless, her eyes were piercing into him, her expression truly like that of still water - though like her and able to read through the cracks of his mask, she knew he would see the ripples under the surface of her face. Ripples of worry, and curiosity. Where was all of this coming from.

"You got side-tracked, didn't you? Often times you do that with me when you are troubled. You come meaning to say one thing, but you say another against your own will. Please. Tell me."

Ah...this woman. She knew almost everything about him. She'd always been there for him just as he'd been there for her. He may even go to the point of calling her his lover. They'd shared such affections before, even if some nights she gave herself to him in his most stressful of times, and he'd...hurt her. He grit his teeth a bit, his jaw clenching at the memory. If he'd knew he would have to part with her, he would have treasured her so much more.

"I'm leaving, Ayume. The Soul Society. My friends. You." He spoke, looking up at the moon, just wishing he could get sucked into it, get away from it all, away from everyone and still be able to look down on those he cared for the most. "Starting tomorrow, I will probably be marked down as an enemy of the soul society.

He really didn't know what to say at this point. He had nothing to say. He couldn't just get up and leave though. He knew that she had the right to question him, yell at him, and punish him for leaving her after all their time close. So now he just waited. He waited for her to say what she needed to.

"I'm leaving Ayume. The Soul Society. My friends. You." Her blue eyes had never wavered from him as he spoke, his eyes never looking at her. "Starting tomorrow, I will probably be marked down as an enemy of the Soul Society."

She was quiet for a long moment, her own eyes going up to the moon, letting out a little sigh. It was so silent where they were, that she could hear the faint beating of her captain's heart as well as her own.

It would be several moments before she would move, and when she did, she simply stood up, her eyes still attached to the moon above her, before she turned to him, a small smile on her face.

"Stupid. You're not leaving me. I'm coming with you." She said, turning to him, and stepping closer to him, placing her hands on the sides of his face and leaning down, pressing her forehead to Nicholas' before speaking again, hoping that she took him by surprise enough that he wouldn't speak again until she was done. "If you are to be an enemy of the Soul Society, I will be an enemy with you. And if you decide to tell me why... then I will understand. Until then, I will stay quiet and wait, and follow closely beside you. I said earlier..each action a person does is driven by a need, a belief, or an ideal? For me, you are my need, you are what I believe in. You are my ideal. So I will do whatever it takes, no matter how horrible or how villainous to stay by your side." She told him softly, her jasmine scented hair falling down around them.

Years of staying with her, years of having the pinkette at his side...He would have thought he could expect each action. Though no matter what outcome was possible, what she did...was the last thing he expected at that moment. His eyes widened as she spoke that she was coming with him. Even as she leaned down and pressed her forehead to his, there was a small look of shock on his face. Before he could retaliate, she had already continued to speak, knowing he wouldn't interrupt. Heh. Smart woman.

She completely trashed any attempt at retaliation. She was firm in her words, but her voice was soft. He could feel her heart through that voice, and his own beat harder, breath stopping. This woman, who would give her life for him, would even risk making that life terrible and ruinous just to stay by his side. He understood, but...Something inside tugged at him, that part that obviously loved Ayume. He yearned for her to actually stay by his side, but didn't want to subject her to the torments that came with that. As he took in the scent that she gave off, he decided to settle his mind with a question.

His hand went out to take that of the pinkette, tugging her to him, rolling as he did so, so that he could take her to the ground, having her lay back in the grass of the garden. He got atop her right after, looking down into her aquamarine eyes. His knees were next to each of her thighs, straddling her there to stop any movement, his hands moving from her arms to frame her face. "Ayume...You do know what you're sacrificing, don't you? If you stay by my side, you'll lose the friends you have here, your sense of peace, your home and way of life. I know that you just told me your answer, but...one more time. Think of what it's worth, to stay with me. I just...can't promise your happiness in the end" He spoke. His words contained a bit of irritation at first, but he gradually softened. Taking her to the ground, nearly yelling at her, it was to make sure that she was paying full attention to what she was agreeing to. But she was always under control. She was intelligent. He had no doubt she knew what she had done. He just...couldn't believe it, despite all the reasons he should. Still, he knew where she was coming from. If Ayume came up to him suddenly, and told him the world hated her and she had nowhere to go, he'd harbor her, even if she was a criminal. No matter how heinous a crime, he would never let her stay alone in her most trying of times, in a time where she felt more lonely than ever.

It was exactly the same thing going on now, just a different situation.

"Ayume. No matter what you do. Whether you stay with me, or don't, there's one thing that won't change. I'll still love you, either way."

Then, as if to prove that to her, he leaned down, pressing his lips to hers, blue eyes closing after he spoke out new words. He'd hinted it plenty of times, let her feel loved, and thought it many times as he spent time with her, but...He'd never actually said those words till then.

Ayume barely registered the movement, and she didn't realize what happened until he was over her, pinning her down, framing her face with his hands. She looked up at him serenely - never once had she been afraid of this man, despite his reputation.

His voice was loud, irritated and she smiled up at him in response. Her serene smile was met with a shaking of her head, her mouth opening to respond to him, but he continued, her expression shocked.

"Ayume. No matter what you do. Whether you stay with me, or don't, there's one thing that won't change. I'll still love you, either way." When his lips pressed against hers, it took a second for her to respond - the shock that she was careful about never letting settle on her expression making her body rigid.

Loves her. He said he loves her, and always would. Her aquamarine marine eyes closed as suddenly her hands reach up and gripped on to him, her lips pressing against his frantically, a little noise of happiness escaping her. When he pulled away she was shaking, out of joy.

It was the only thing she'd really wanted to hear for years now. Finally. Finally. "This place is only my home because you are here. You are my home Nicholas. I do not care about anyone or anything else. I'm empty if were not for you. I love you too." She said simply. "I will stay with you. I will go with you. I assume you're already packed. Do I get five minutes to gather some spare clothes?" Ayume's first question was slightly accusatory, before her small hands stroke her captains cheek lovingly.
