Hibachi listened with rapt attention, committing as much of the conversation as he could to memory as it occurred. He mentally made a check list. "Ex-Girlfriend. Check. Lives in Saffron. Check. Ameji is a martial artist. Check. Gets a weird vibe from Psychic trainers. Check" He finished his own mental checklist, a light shiver running down his spine as he recalled the first time he had fought one of the Psychic trainers.

His gaze traveled over to the oddish getting it's extra special attention from Ameji and grinned. His gaze then shifted to Haunter and he sighed. That ghost pokemon was such a glutton for attention. He sat back, digesting the information as it came in.

Haunter grinned his Haunter grin and laughed out "Haunt Haunt Haunt!" Basking in the attention that came from the young trainer Akihiro, so much so that it chose to not pick on the oddish that was within reach of it's usually prank pulling hands.

"Oh! You have a Machamp?" Ami asks, brightening almost instantly. It was easy to see what Aki had liked about her. The love she had for Pokemon mirrored his. She ignored the question about the trainer that lived in Saffron, as she was not something the people of Saffron often spoke of. In fact, she was considered a bit taboo among the school children.

The Oddish relaxed, loving the new found attention. "ahhh... Oddiiiiisshhhh~!" she cooed, letting her eyes flutter shut. the usually hyperactive pokemon fell asleep in Ameji's lap.

Aki couldn't hear the conversation as his attention was completely on the Haunter, petting him, and muttering praise to him.

"Well, he's not my Machamp. Or Mom's, really. Kinni is, well, he was..." Ameji floundered about, not really wanting to bring up his Father, but after a moment's hesitation, swallowed back his distaste. "Kinni was my Dad's. He's... not around anymore."

Ameji kept his head down, focusing on petting Oddish.

"He left when I was ten. He was a sailor, so it wasn't odd for him to leave for a few months at a time. But I kept waiting, and he never came back... I haven't seen him since." Ameji finished with a shrug, his eyes hardening a bit. "He left Kinni behind and ever since then, Kinni has been the man of the house." He finished, chuckling slightly.

Hibachi could feel the atmosphere in the compartment fall as it made it's slow descent down. He knew how it felt to not have a father in ones life, though it didn't impact him as much as it clearly did Ameji. He never had a father in his life to miss, as such he didn't care as much as others might about the missing paternal figure. He watched haunter continue to soak up Aki's focus and opted to let the pokemon remain out and doing so. He started to open his mouth, as if to add to the conversation, but opted against it and sat back, choosing to continue listen once more, trying his best to come up with a funny story or joke that might lighten the mood.

"Ameji misses his father. Check."

"Oh, you poor thing... I'm sorry that happened to you..." Ami says softly, scooting a bit closer to Ameji and placing a hand on his knee for support. "I can't imagine something like that happening. My mother passed in childbirth and my daddy is all I have left. I'd be empty if I lost him." she said.

For the first time since Haunter was let out, Aki's attention was divided. He'd met both of Ami's parents and knew for a fact that she was lying, though if one didn't know better it was hard to tell. it seemed she was a practiced liar. When she had left him, three days earlier, she'd told him that she wanted someone who took school more seriously. Being a straight A student, he had no idea what she meant by that. To avoid drama, especially while they were all shut in on the ride, he kept his mouth shut and when back to petting Haunter.

Dietrich had fallen asleep, a side effect of working hard that day and running all over town. A light snore could be heard from his direction every once in a while.

Ameji shrugged it off and bottled away his grief, as he normally did. Smiling his thanks to Ami, he cradled the Oddish on his lap, gently. His hand was beginning to ache.

"Thanks. Sorry to hear about your Mom. I can't imagine life without mine." Ameji stated, not wanting to imagine such a scenario.

He eyed the sleeping Dietrich and Aki who seemed obsessed with Haunter. Clearing his throat, Ameji decided to change the conversation topic.

Hibachi had said something about learning the surrounding area before they'd gotten on.

"Hey, Hibachi. I dunno if I ever asked." Ameji racked his brain, but if he was told earlier, he couldn't remember, "What're you doing here in Pallet? Dietrich lives here and Aki is visiting. So... yeah ,what're you and Cole doing here too, Ami?"

Hibachi had been thinking as hard as he could about what he would say, and had just come up with a great joke! "What's the matter! I thought this was a Ferris wheel not the lobby of the lavender tower!" But, Ameji making conversation would work just as well, and he would save this "Gem" Of a joke for later. He took a deep breath, then began to speak.

"Oh! I am a trainer! *he paused as if that explained everything, then he realized it didn't and he continued speaking. "I am a trainer, and I heard about a really famous Pokemon Professor who lived here was having his yearly pokemon giveaway soon, and I wanted to be here to see the newbies get their pokemon and then get a little traveling group together! I am. . Kinda bored traveling alone ya know?" He finally finished.

Haunter nodded thoughtfully as if agreeing that their group needs more company and then nudged Aki for more dedicated attention. His eyes already glinting as he spotted the Oddish in Ameji's lap and began plotting a new prank.

Ami scooted closer still to Ameji, stroking his leg affectionately. "Well," she says, pulling her hand away. "I came with Cole so I could get my mind off the break up. He's here because D's here. He wanted to surprise him."

Aki laughed at Haunter's jealousy and turned his attention back to him, giving him belly rubs. "You're such a hambone. Cute little thing."

"Ah, yeah. Pallet gets a lot of tourists during this time. The festival keeps them all entertained, and ends soon after Oak does his thing. He sure knows how to get the people going. There's an introduction, the giveaway, and then a party afterwards. I helped cater the last two years." Ameji explained to Hibachi. "I think Oak's shebang is happening in the next few days, actually..."

"Hard to get your mind off the breakup when you're in the other person's company..." Ameji muttered after hearing what Ami had to say. He looked at Aki, wondering how the other was doing and made a note to ask.

"Hey Akihiro, when are you going home?" Ameji asked, trying to draw the other into the convo too.

Hibachi nodded and sat back, going back into his checklist mind set. He began to make more mental observations.

"Aki likes pokemon, bit of a pushover for a persistent pokemon. Check."

"Ami seems to be interesting in pokemon, Might not be as honest as she seems to act judging from how "Hard" She is taking this breakup. Check."

"D doesn't like it when I call him D and is the type who works himself to death. Check."

"Ameji is a loyal and hardworking individual, wont fall easily to those trying to manipulate him. Check."

"Haunter REMAINS a ham bone. Double Check."

"Oak is having his big shindig soon. Check."

Haunter smiled contently and just floated there silently, enjoying the attention.

"Huh? Oh! I... I'm only here for four days. Gotta go back to school on Monday, y'know?" Aki says, pulling Haunter into a hug. He seemed distant with Ami in the booth with them, as if he were being careful about something.

"I admit, I wasn't expecting Aki to be here. He hates these kinds of things... I couldn't get him to take me when we were dating." Ami says as if the break up had happened years ago and she was already over it.

Aki shifted uncomfortably and held the Haunter closer, though careful not to squeeze too tight. Dietrich sat up, a bit groggy, and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. "Wha?" he muttered.

Ami's careless reply grate on Ameji's nerves somewhat. She was so callous and Akihiro was sitting right next to her...

He was beginning to suspect that she wasn't a very truthful person. Instead of dealing with her he turned his attention to Aki instead.

"Well I have work during the weekdays but my weekends are pretty much free. If you get bored or Dietrich here ditches you," Ameji winked at D, letting the other know he was joking and his comment wasn't an attack on the other, "then message me, and maybe we can find something to do!"

Hibachi watched every one in the compartment with a great amount of interest. A great many things had been rushing through his head before he shot up to a standing position and declared. "I HAVE AN IDEA!" This caused several things to happen all at once. One, it send the compartment they were in to sway, with the sudden redistribution of weight. Haunter took this moment to rush forward and lick Ami's face, from the bottom-middle of her chin all the way up to the top of her forehead, right over her nose and mouth. Then he rushed forward, making a grab for the Oddish that was sleeping in Ameji's hands. If it was denied, it would quickly rush out the window and drop the Oddish from it's grasp, knowing full well it would be no longer a drop then if the Oddish had fallen off a counter top due to how close to ending the ride had actually been, but enjoying the dark humor inherit in it's actions. This was Haunters unique brand of justice! How dare this woman make the human giving him affection feel uneasy!

"Hey!" Dietrich protests, giving Ameji a playful grin to assure him he caught the joke, "yeah, I probably would." he said, continuing the joke at his own expense.

"That's very thoughtful of you Ame-" Aki opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by Hibachi. He nearly fell out of his seat, but caught himself, which is what released Haunter in the first place.

Oddish awoke from her slumber on the cold ground instead of the comfortable warm lap she had fallen asleep in. She didn't enjoy this at all and not understanding what had happened, she began to cry. Ami didn't notice the poor thing was gone. Oddish had been a gift from Aki and she'd put no effort in to catching her on her own, but more than that, she was too busy being cranky because Ameji had ignored her. She'd kept quiet about it until she got licked. Outrage and disgust plastered her face and she whimpered, trying to get the saliva off her face.

Even with the situation they were in, Akihiro, ever the gentalman, pulled out a hankerchif and helped her wipe her face off. "Are you okay, Amilia?"

"Y-yeah... I just wasn't expecting that..." she said in a strangled tone, as if she had to force the words out.
