Reason for joining: The reason he gives is he respects this particular division's captain more then the others, he also believes that protecting Karakura town and the gates is a perfect job for him because he believes he lacks the ability to do any other job. His hidden reason is he wishes to leave the soul society from time to time and enjoy the human world, he believes that this job is perfect since the 13th division is responsible for monitoring Karakura Town.
