As they waited idly for Niall, Althea watched as Arcan played with a bit of magic in his fingers, and Althea wondered if he'd teach her a thing or to about magic.
Shortly after mentioning him, Niall ducked his head under the door and entered the inn. He greeted them, and he and Arcan introduced themselves. Not much chit chat was said before Arcan lowered his voice and told them of his history with the Thalmor, as well as offering their services if needed, he explained the quest he was on and why he sought companions, and lowered his voice further to trust them with a secret that could get him killed: his vampirism. Althea kept quiet as Niall humbly accepted him, and Althea smiled inwardly at his kindness. She found herself doing that a lot lately..
Althea brought herself back to the conversation when Arcan began going into more detail about his quest. When he suggested the route they should take to Winterhold, she decided it was time for her to speak up. Arcan was not the only one with a quest at hand, and Althea was determined to find the man who paid idiot bounty hunters to kill an innocent woman.
"I'd like to provide my companionship for you on your quest, under just one circumstance." Althea did not pause, and continued on with her proposal. "I'd like to take the opposite route to Winterhold, for I need to take care of a quest of my own, though I don't think it should take too much time, if I go about it correctly." Althea explained the bounty hunters mistaking her twice, once on the road to Whiterun, and again in the inn but days ago. She told him of the bounty letters she found on all of them, and the letter from Maven Black-Briar they found in the room Drelfa had stayed at in the inn. "Normally, I wouldn't involve myself in someone else's problems, but these men could have taken my life, are obviously mislead, for the Altmer woman in innocent, and this Black-Briar womans knows that. I'd like to find her and offer to find and kill whomever sent the most incompetent men as to hunt the wrong woman twice. Hell, I'm probably in danger this minute.
Anyways, If I could have your company to Riften, my mission shouldn't take long at all."
Althea took a deep breath and waited as they did the things men do when they are thinking and considering, such as fiddling with facial hair or thumbing the hilt of a sword. If they denied her request, She would tell them that they would have to take their route without her, for she needed to complete her business in Riften. She'd offer to meet the in Winterhold afterwards, in case they still needed her assistance. Althea hoped they agreed, for she knew that still knew very little about Skyrim and what lies under the surface. Yes, she had heard stories about Riften, and the Thieves Guild. Althea hoped her reflexes would be able to detect a thief. In any case, she would be going, whether or not the men chose to accompany her.

spacer Taking his time pondering Althea's quest, Arcan did come to a conclusion after many thoughts. The first indicating that his target might have left Winterhold by the time they got there if he decides to go with Althea's quest. Yet, the only logical place his target would go to is the Thalmor Embassy, which would entail a great deal of cunning and light feet to get into, maybe Arcan can rummage his old Thalmor wizard robes, gloves and boots to pass of as a Justicar with Althea and Niall being his fake prisoners. Well if it comes to that. "Hmmm. A detour, but a detour that sounds like fun. Perhaps we can use diplomacy to reason with these hunters as a first resort, then fight if need be." Arcan looked at his Magelight, then he uncasted it. "I accept but if it ends up eating my time I have a back up plan in my quest that I'll have to explain on the road. As for my quest, any gold you two find along the way, is yours. But I am collecting the spell-tomes for myself." Arcan then gulped down his water. Then Arcan thought it would prudent to give a side joke to lift up the mood a little bit, "I hope I don't get a sun burn though along the way." Arcan smiled hoping his inside joke was sort of understood.

Althea felt herself lift higher as the man beside her agreed to be her companion on her trip. When he spoke of the gold that could be found along the way, she didn't even blink. She would never have to scavenge for money for food. But when he mentioned spell tomes, her elongated ears perked up a bit. She yearned to know more magic than just the soul-trap spell and her frost.. She felt she could be more of an opponent with more that just a handmade weapon at her disposal.
After Arcan said his piece, Althea saw Niall still had his brow furrowed, thinking, and decided to ask Arcan what she had wanted to since she found out he was a mage. "Arcan, you seem to know a great deal about magic. Growing up where I did, I didn't have access to many magic books or people that knew anything about magic. So I'd like to pay you if you'd teach me what you can." She hoped he would, and if he knew any better ice spells. She had heard of one that could make you able to throw a large shard of ice at and through someone. As a natural-born archer, this sort of spell appealed to her.
She didn't expect a man like Arcan to do such a thing out of the kindness of his heart, so she held out a few gold coins a precious gem or two to get his attention. She could earn back this handful in a few hours.

Niall shrugged slightly in his chair before stating simply " I have no contracts or obligations at the moment and as such both tasks are valid and equal in my eyes. whichever you want to do first. I have no objections." after saying his piece, he sat and listened to the banter between his two companions and but tuned out the words when there conversation steered towards a topic in which he had little knowledge, magic. oh sure he knew a smattering of the stuff it certainly helped in his line of work if one could pull a dagger out of nothing or set a campfire with a whispered word and a exertion of will but much more than that he hand no idea. glancing idly up at the other patrons. the usual crowd shuffled about, enjoying there drink and food but the two new men who entered the tavern... he did not like the look of them, both wore a mix of patchwork armor and there eyes held within a hungry look. Bandits? no the guard would have stopped them. Bounty hunters? possible. danger? No. Threat? Yes.

" I hate to interrupt but we may have some company" Niall stated while shooting a glance up at the two men " do either of you two recognize them?" he asked while slightly shifting his weight. so he could leap out of his chair and in to action if necessary.

spacer Arcan looks to the two men Niall was suggesting to. "I think they are mine." Then Arcan lowered his voice. "Once I give the signal, run." Arcan then stood, walked over to a table and pushed it over startling everyone. Then Arcan quickly pulled out a spell tome he hadn't learned, Calm, and then learned the spell. Then Arcan cast the spell on the two men and whoever he can before exhausting his mana. "Now!" Arcan knew he couldn't get everyone under the charm, so a few had to suffice, but he would not know if the two men were affected, so running as a fail safe action.
Then Arcan ran out of the bar first, making his way to the stables.

Before Althea could get a response out of Arcan, Niall interrupted by pointing out a couple of out-of-place characters that had entered the building. Arcan explained that they should all run, as he cast some sort of spell that appeared useless, but it must have been of some use, because he then began heading for the rear entrance. Immediately Althea's brow furrowed. She wasn't one to run away from danger so easily. However, she wasn't about to kill people in the middle of a crowded place, so she followed behind Arcan out the back door.
The mage didn't stop, and headed straight for the entrance to the city, presumably to the stables. Althea decided that their journey had begun prematurely, so she went and fetched all the items from her room, then proceeded to the stables and loaded all of it upon Myrna. She then looked around for Arcan and Niall, hoping by some chance they hadn't already gotten separated.

Niall nodded and exploded in to motion as soon as the spell was cast. leaping over the table he sprinted out of the tavern and the two men, who stared vacantly at him as he passed. Mind magics? he thought to himself as he continued on his way catching sight of Althea heading towards the city gates. he angled towards the gate so he would meet up with at least one of his comrades after making it out.

glancing up as he ran he noticed that several of the city watch seemed to have taken a keen interest in there progress. I guess three people running out of the local tavern is a bit... noticeable he thought once more. though the guards did not stop them so he assumed that all was well.

spacer Upon seeing the carriage by the stables, Arcan ran up to it. "Carriage rider, I have two friends heading this way. Take these coins and ready us for an immediate ride. We'll give directions along the way." Arcan paid the carriage rider and hopped into the carriage. Then he began to move some of the boxes so Niall and Althea can easily hop on. Once finished, Arcan began to meditate awhile he waited for his comrades. Then Arcan began to chant under his breath awhile waiting for his comrades. "Butan þæt cwalu. Hrðe þon aidlian. Hrðe þon eðian. Bot ond tile..." It was a healing chant, but it served no use for healing, just concentration awhile he waited.

OOC: Yes, I will be using Merlin BBC related spell chants and I do plan on putting the chants on top of the spells when using spells. No new spells, still going to use the vanilla spells from the game

Althea strapped the majority of her belongings on her mare's back, but kept the usual things on her person. Althea didn't feel safe without her weapon in her hand. Not since that day she was ambushed on her way into Whiterun. Althea did what had to be done in order to survive. She did what she had to. Sometimes she felt as if her disregard for another being's life was horrible. Who was she to make that kind of decision? Until she remembered their intentions: kill a woman, earn coin. She decided that their reasons for killing were far more horrific than hers.. She didn't know if killing them was the right thing, but her own survival depended on it, and she would prefer one person with a conscience be alive rather than two with no conscience about killing for gold.
She pulled herself out of the thoughts that crowded her mind and hooked the last strap on her horse. She then led Myrna away from the horse stalls and towards the road, where she could better see if her companions were on their way.
Sure enough, she spotted Arcan talking to carriage driver. As she headed in their direction, she also noticed a large, familiar figure approaching from the city gates. As she approached the carriage, she asked Arcan immediately: "Where are we heading to first?"

Niall continued to run out of the town and saw the carriage rented by Arcan, lightly jogging up he easily hoisted himself up in to the back. quickly finding a seat he checked over his travel things and grunted in approval seeing that all was ready. he always traveled light not much more than some food blankets clothing and his weapons "Plus bags of holding never hurt." he muttered to himself as he listened to his companions.

spacer "As this is a change of events. My decision still stands." Arcan turned to the carriage driver. "Sir Driver, you'll be following Althea's lead." The carriage driver nodded in agreement, but didn't really care since he was already paid. Arcan then sat back and looked towards the back of the carriage, seeing one of the bandits running out of the city, most likely his spell wore off. Arcan never was proficient in mind magics.
Then Arcan turned to Niall's comment on bags of holding. "I've heard tale that there are such magical bags said to carry all you have ever thought of." Arcan began to feel his teeth with one hand, noticing the sharpness of his k-9 teeth. "Hmmmm." Arcan then closed his lips just in case to not freight the carriage driver.

Althea finished tying Myrna to the side of their carriage as Arcan spoke to her. She blinked at him when he told her they could head to her own destination first, as she expected him to want to deal with his dilemma firsthand. However, she wasn't about to complain, as she now had to tell the driver where to head towards to continue her quest. "Driver, take us along the fastest route to Riften. And I feel I should warn you, a group of evil people have mistaken me for a woman they want dead. I'll do my best to avoid interruption and the need for violence, but I can promise nothing but your safety. " The driver gave Althea a funny look and she could tell he wasn't all too sure about her honesty, but he nodded and the carriage began bouncing as the horse pulled them down the road.
From the moment she had met Arcan, she could sense he was holding something back. Granted, Althea was sure everyone had their secrets, but Arcan had one that he wore on his shoulders. Even as they trundled down the dirt path and away from Whiterun, Althea noticed the mage fingering his teeth, and a very sharp canine tooth, in fact. She wondered what it could mean. Then she began to think what he might have to do in Winterhold, what his quest might be, as he hadn't given much detail.
After pondering the possibly nonexistent ulterior motives of the strange fellow her and Niall were traveling with, she decided it best to leave it alone. After they helped her in Riften, they would be heading north and Althea figured they would know a lot more about this man whilst assisting him on his own quest.
Althea had a feeling it would be a long ride to Riften, so she leaned over the side of the carriage and took a pack from the back of her mare. Within were four handmade knives and a sharpening stone. She had begun making these before deciding to come to Skyrim, and hadn't gotten the chance to finish them. So, she worked as carefully as she could on the bumpy carriage ride to Riften. This trip wasn't a bother to her, for it would give her time to plan, think, and make decisions, with the alibi of simply sharpening some knives.

spacerLooking at the carriage driver, Arcan noticed that he was focused more on the road than his cargo. So, Arcan decide to look at Althea over his shoulder and noticed a little concern on her face. Then Arcan thought about smiling, but then he remembered his teeth were beginning to form. So he only smiled with his lips. "Hey, Althea. If you are worried that I may not get to my directive in time, it's fine. I know where my directive will go after he is done and his usual path... to home." Arcan didn't want to startle the driver with talk of the Thalmor Embassy, since it seemed to Arcan that the carriage driver was a Nord.

Then Arcan thought of something to say that might create calm with Althea. "Look. We are a triad of three very different individuals. Amongst us, me, wishes to take what he has been burdened with and try to use it for a good. Yes, I am a Thalmor, but I have seen the demons that the Thalmor have and I don't want to be on their end in control of the world. If you've seen the tortures..." Arcan broke speech, turned from Althea and looked out into the distance in thought. Although the Altmer that took Arcan's mission to Winterhold, he was also the Altmer who, awhile in the Summerset Isle, was a cohort of a torturer and shown Arcan (at a young age) a man being tortured to convert from worshiping Talos to the other Eight Gods. What Arcan saw then, was something he could not unsee.

Niall put up the facade of dosing as the carriage rocked back and forth on the way to there destination. though he kept his keen sense of hearing and smell on alert for any... oddities on the wind. though he dropped his facade when Arcan began to talk of being a thalmor and why he left the group. it still struck him as amazing and highly irregular, though it probably also had to do with him being what he was... it was a nice change of pace to see that one of those damned elves had a soul. letting out a bark of laughter he glanced up to his allies " well I have seen what they do. and as I said before your taste has most certainly improved. as for myself? I like to meddle and no one messes with my compainions. Ill tear out a mans throat before I let those whom i care about come to harm. call it a quirk of mine."
