Week 18: 120 Loosing Control March 20, 2013

Ri walked through the hallway as balls of light flitted through the dark stone and caused streaks in her vision. "Hello Lial." She said as she rounded a corner and came face to face with her spiral eyed brother.

Despite the displeasure at seeing him that had been clear in her voice he did not waste a moment before hugging her. "Thank the spirits you are still alive." She brought up her hand and shoved her palm against his side as she felt the blade slide into place.

He fell to the floor as they healing magic began to work, "You are not my brother and you are not forgiven. Leave now or I will let the others know you are here and what you have done." She said as her magic wavered in the air and she felt her brother's magic take hold.

"Let them know the truth now." He said as he stood up and she felt his magic release her before he had made her do anything, "My magic holds me to rules of the oathed, I cannot harm you."

Ri stated back at him and let the other blade extend from her wrist, "Leave now." She said with ideas of half formed thoughts in the back of her mind.

"Calif is still after you and I cannot stop her forever, I am loosing my control on her if I have not already." He said as a massive wave of magic and a shimmer like a falling illusion had him standing in front of her one second and gone the next.

Week 18: 121 Unfaithful March 21, 2013

"Still making waves apple-girl?" Lell asked as her mud covered face appeared on the mirror, Dolle shook her head, despite having managed to attain a position in a royal court her former class mate had not shed her street kid habits, or her her fishmonger roots.

"Ones large enough to reach the desert." Kirsch said as he tipped his chair back just to the point where he managed to not end up on the floor.

"I had heard you had joined the dust walkers cherry boy, she drag you out of the doldrums?" Lell asked as a servant walked quickly behind her to escape the fate of cleaning up her ever present trail of mud. "Wind is the city split, you hide the shadows and run with them."

"Who'd you hear the gull chatter from?"

"Grain-boy. Who had word from guard glower. Word is you have dyed the white flags red and if the linking of the queens is your masterpiece apple girl we would have gotten away with some of those laughing fish."

Dolle shook her head, "Maybe you should just work for Idell instead of Crane Lell. Your method of speaking would work just as well for code."

"Your string of alliances and pressure to avoid the war, just made it more inevitable." Lell said as she folded her arms, "The city split, people disagree with the way things have turned. It was no secret you two had openly defied the council and left, I have mages that came to me when the order that they either return or get killed went out. Some went to Idell, but the guards are scattered as he is preoccupied with other things."

Dolle leveled a glare at the woman and thankfully she moved on, "those unfaithful to the city are faithful to you two. Word is you made the sun rise in the west and redrew the stars, your waves apple-girl flood the world."

"Kirsch." Dolle said her patience for the slang heavy babble having grown thin.

"When spring comes we will have a war to fight and we already have an army behind us." He said as he rubbed his stubble with an expression that reminded her of the strategists in the war and the experienced guards.

Week 18: 122 Asylum March 22, 2013

Asylum.
One small word.
A thousands different lines and lies,
a thousand feet beneath the sky.
Asylum.
One small word.
A thousand beats on a steady drum
a thousand dangers to ever run from.

Asylum.
One small word,
What can grant asylum from the mind?

Week 18: 123 Injury March 23, 2013

Ri sat on the single cot that occupied her prison cell and glared at the guard who stood on the other side of the bars and glared back. With his hand over his nose to stem the flow of blood from a broken nosed caused by a quick jab with the palm of her hand, he looked nothing like the intimidating soldier he was supposed to be.

"Are you going to let me out?" Ri asked as she crossed her arms and refused to admit that she had done anything wrong, the presence of barrier between the bars created by an active suppression circle only served to make her more hostile. "Sometimes you have to break things to fix them."

"You broke his leg in three placed." The guard said, his voice muffled by a hand and coat sleeve and pitched higher from a pinched nose only served to make him sound ridiculous, "That is an injury that will take a healer to set properly if they can even heal it."

"He broke it in the field and did not set it properly the first time." Ri said as she held out her arm, "My handler broke my arm once and forced it to heal without setting. It took me four tries to get it right." She said as she pushed back the memory of the pain that had come with each break. "If Brond wants the proper use of his leg he will thank me."

She glared back at the guard. "Not everyone heals like you puppets." The guard said.

She flung a wave of magic at the wall created by the suppression circle, it was only a matter of time before she broke through it again. "I am not a puppet." She said and wished she had put more force into breaking the man's nose.

Week 18: 124 Karma March 24, 2013

What goes around comes around.
You get what you deserve.
What comes around goes around.
Is this what I deserve?

What evils did I do or say,
to have the life I know today?

What goes around comes around.
You get what you deserve.
What comes around goes around.
Is this what I deserve?

What could warrant a child's life
to be filled with fear and strife?

What goes around comes around.
You get what you deserve.
What comes around goes around.
Is this what I deserve?

Week 18: 125 Dancing March 25, 2013

Kirsch stood with his back to the wall and casually watched the going ons of the people around him. He spotted a green and brown clad servant with a tray of drinks and made his way through the crowd before he picked a drink off the tray. He brought the metal rim to his lips and took a sip of the apple based drink, a flavor he had never found too appetizing.

He nodded politely to the men who lined the room with swords on their hips before he turned around to find a woman with more feathers on her than a chicken.

"Would you care to dance sword guard?" She said as she held out her hand for him to take.

Kirsch handed her the drink and in the few seconds it took her to realize what had happened he slipped away.

"I would not make it a habit of turning down queens if I were you." Theline said as she appeared behind him. A quick look around told him he was not in danger of coming under the glare of her guard. "Relax Thath is preoccupied." The Lethean queen said as she held out her hand for him to take.

He stared at her and wondered what it was that she wanted. When he did not take her hand she grabbed his and led him to the dance floor. "Relax." She said as the music began and she fell into step with the rhythm and he did his best to follow. "I simply want to dance, my guards disapprove of me dancing with anyone they do not trust, and none of them will dance with me."

"Because Thath would." Kirsch began.

"Because Thath would discipline them for stepping out of line." Theline said her voice correcting whatever it was he was going to say and warning him not to say anything else, "And it would distract them from their duty."

"Any they will allow me?"

"I do not feel like causing Thath to squirm today." Theline said as she looked over to where the white haired guard watched Dolle.

Week 18: 126 Enchantment March 26, 2013

I drift into consciousness as the oblivious state of sleep leaves me and is replaced by the encasing warmth of my sleeping bag and the enveloping softness of my pillow. I quickly become aware of the cold air on my face that has chilled the pillow where my head has not rested in the night and the root that has poked my side while I slept and is certain to have left a bruise.

I open my eyes and sit up the loud crumpling of the tarp beneath us has kept the moisture from the ground but done nothing to keep the dampness of the early morning from soaking the outer layer of my bed. I look around ignoring the dew, it is simply part of sleeping outside, and stare out at the trees that sway gently in a wind from the west.

The wind that blows through a camp with a poplar tree in the meadow and even from the distance of a thousand miles I can still hear it murmuring "All is well. All is well."

Week 19: 127 Shadow

The Green Dragon quickly finished slipping the rope through the eyelets and securing the opening to the green tent she had made her home and her business. She secured the tight string with a quick knot before she took a flap of fabric and turned it over the opening and began the progress of lacing the cover.

She finished the task and the knot when the winds hit and made the taunt sides of the tent hummed with the resonance of the desert. It was a song she had heard many times and one that she found herself listening to today.

"Never can quite get that sound." A name said from behind her and she jumped slightly as she turned. It had been a long time since someone had managed to arrive in the vicinity without her knowing and she had made certain the tent was empty before she battened down the hatches for a sandstorm.

"What do you want?" She asked a man with dark hair, a flute in his hands, and something blue with a white feather in his lap. "Get off my table Noddle." She said as she noted that he sat cross legged on one of them and realized that she had not recognized him without his trademark blue hat.

"Is that how you greet an old friend?" He asked as he flipped the wide brimmed hat onto his head. "With the assumption they want something and the demand they leave the table?"

"That is how I do it." The Dragon said, "Or would you prefer I make you pay for the drinks?"

"Shadows stir and speak once more." Noddle Pawnrig said as he watched her for a reaction. She gave him none and he continued, "They are not bound by the laws we are."

The Dragon nodded her head and watched as Noddle Pawnrig and his big blue hat shifted in the shadows casted by her green lights and was gone.

Week 19: 128 Red

Taiya stared at the red robe of the Riverport mages and watched the hem ripple in the breeze of the open window. She turned around and left it laying across the back of an elaborately carved wooden chair.

She stared at the bed that occupied the other side of the small room and the red coat she had carelessly tossed onto it.

"Are you coming?" A red robed girl asked with an impatient tap of her foot, she was young but still older than Taiya by the larger part of a hand. "We are going t to be late."

Taiya grabbed the coat and shrugged it on, the freedom of movement and the practicality of a coat were things she liked. She picked up her bag and made a step towards the door.

"Are you going to leave that?" The girl asked as she nodded in the direction of the untouched robe. Taiya grabbed it and shoved it into the bottom of her bag before she shut the door and followed the girl who wore a displeased frown for her actions.

129. Eagle

Kal watched the sun rise over the ocean and the shimmer of the silver fog on the horizon to the north. He was as far east and as far north as you could go, he was on the edge of the world. He stood on the mountains of the sea where only the great eagles flew. He pulled a golden feather out of the pouch by his side and let it catch the wind.

A quick flow of magic and the wind changed directions and carried the feather back to the void, back to the land were only the eagles flew.

Week 19: 130 Extreme Behaviors

"What did you do?" John asked as Jubilee walked out of the alley way and he felt the now familiar feeling of a dissipating magic field.

"I dealt with the problem." She said as she walked off her hourglass adorned robe billowed behind her.

"Dealt with it? How?" John asked as he warily looked from the alley way to the street she had started marching down.

"I told him if he did not take what he said back he would curse the day his parents met." Jubilee said as she crossed her arms and spun to face him. "Unlike most of the people who use that phrase I have the ability to back up my threat."

"Isn't that a bit extreme?" John asked as he wondered what exactly it was she had done.

"I follow through on my threats." Jubilee said as she turned around and continued to walk.

Week 19: 131 Soundtrack

"What is this?" Jubilee asked as she held up a thin plastic rectangle with two holes in the middle and her name written in a black ink.

"A mixtape." John said as he lifted up a big rectangular box made out of plastic with lots of buttons and dials on the front. He pressed one of them and a slot on the front opened. "This is a boombox."

"I thought those went out of style a few hundred years before you were born." Jubilee said as what they were came back to her. She looked at the cassette tape and slid it into the slot.

"They did. But thanks to you I got to experience the sixties, the seventies, and the eighties. All as a teenager."" He said as he pushed the slot closed with a click. "And all that entailed."

"So what is the point of it?" She asked as she looked at the player and the various blocky letters in white print.

"Think of it as a personal soundtrack for the moment." He said as she pressed the tab labeled play.

Week 19: 132 Books

Fren stared at the cover of the latest book he had pulled off the shelf, a black leather bound one only as thick as his finger with a yellow sun and a silver moon burned into the cover and then painted in the lines. He flipped open the cover and found a neat and elaborate hand in what he assumed was one form or another of the language of the Warring Lands.

"What are you looking at?" Ri asked from behind him and made him spin quickly to face her.

"Nothing." Fren said as he attempted to put the book behind him.

She grabbed the book from his hands and ran her finger along the lines of cover. "The tales of the sun and the moon." Ri said as she looked up at him and smiled. He started to smile and she quickly handed him back the book before she turned around and walked away.

"That was her favorite story as a child." Taiya said as she leaned against the bookshelf and stared off in the direction Ri had fled. "May I have my book back?"

"What?"

"That book." Taiya said as she pointed to the one in his hand, "It is written in our language, or at least how my language would be written according to the Warring Landers."

Fren looked at the book, "On second thought, Keep it. One day maybe she'll teach you our language." Fren looked up and raised his eye brow at the older painted, "I may not be on speaking terms with my sister but I am by no means unobservant." Taiya said as she turned around and walked away.

Fren looked back at the book and placed it in his bag before he grabbed a book at random off the shelf and followed after Ri.

Week 19: 133 Lithium

"Don't forget the Lithium." John said as Jubilee poured the black powered material into the tube.

"You ask me questions about every little thing I am doing and you tell me not to forget the coloring?" Jubilee asked as she looked at him and spoke in surprise and disbelief.

"I did pay some attention in class." John said as he looked at the other tubes she had already made and sealed. "Besides it is my favorite color. And it was one of those few elements I did not have to wait five lifetimes for people to discover."

"Sorry about that." Jubilee said, "I think this last one is almost done."

"Can't wait for the show then." John said as he wondered what his friend who had been named after a fifty year celebration had planned.

Week 20 : 134 Paralysis

Taiya felt it brush her hand and scrape along her arm she pushed it through the sleeve of her coat. The radiating pain from the tiny point and the ghost trail of contact was the only warning she had. Her body maintained its momentum as she fell and the needle lodged itself into her skin. She cursed her carelessness at neglecting to check for any pins the tailor may have left in.

She hit the ground and her head against the chair on her way down. She felt the control leave her body as her magic took over to heal. The small piece pf metal lodged in her arm ensured it would never finish healing. She began the long progress of reciting her lectures to pass the time until some one found her and removed the pin.
