Venturing the academy grounds from a place to another, passing from the cafeteria to see the changes, the speedy demon explored the school briefly as she regained her energy. Once in a while, Lynmeria would catch a glimpse of her teachers from last year and the years before, and she would wave at them from a distance with a bright grin. A few of them responded back with a gentle smile while others just ignored her and tried to avoid eye contact, intentionally or by accident. Whatever the reason was, it did not bother this sparky student.
Since the classes have yet to commence, Lynmeria could not explore nor take a peek inside of the classrooms and a majority of other locations that were closed off, thus ending her self-guided tour briefly. At least, for this day. Her legs moved on their own and led her back to the cafeteria. Compared to her first visit here, it seemed like a few more students have gathered. The demon walked over to a vending machine and simply bought a bag of baked chips. She turned around afterward and marched her way out of the building to return to the houses.
Having nothing else to do, it seemed like a good time to unpack her material in her dorm and check to see if another person resided in the same room as her. At a moderate pace, she went towards her room and unlocked the door. Her items were left in the same area, untouched and unchanged since the last time Lynmeria set foot in this place. Finishing her snack, the purple-haired girl closed the door behind, threw the bag away and head to the bathroom to clean her greasy fingers before unpacking all her stuff. It did not take long before the job was done, leaving her once again free to do anything to waste time.
Granted that there were many things Lynmeria could do, such as find her classmates from last year and talk to them about their summer, it did not seem amusing to do. Of course, causing a bit of havoc in the academy itself was also another possibility... Although, it would not be a smart move at all; too many risks and nuisances. Sleeping? Boring. Shopping? Boring. Dress-up? Boring. Take a shower? ... Maybe later. Her hygiene was still alright despite her mad dash earlier this day. Sports? Running around would be enough already. Lie down on the grass outside? Eh, too many people around. Make new friends? A possibility. Walking up to people and just initiate a conversation out of the blue would be too suspicious or odd. Maybe later.
After somewhat deciding on her next action, the speedster lifted one of her leg up, similar to those goofy cartoons where the character would march proudly away, Lynmeria copied so by taking a few steps forward... Before tilting to the side and crash, landing on the floor. Too lazy, was what she had in mind, before taking a sudden nap. She could just look for new friends later, was the rest of her thought.

Tashi's stomach rolled as Ashlei helped her into bed, shoes tumbling off and covers pulled up over her by the strangely thoughtful roommate. What a kind person thought Tashi, How did I ever have such good luck? ...mmmmm...this place might not be so bad after all...if I can somehow get these spells to stop accelerating and reversed a bit.
Tashi tried to speak, to at least say 'Thank you," but the words just would not come - sleep was descending in mere moments, though it seemed like long minutes....and she hadn't even time to yawn.
There was a strange metallic taste on her tongue. Tashi wondered what that meant. As she drifted, she heard the door open...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tashi's heart turned cold. She was now quite awake, but the person who came into her room was not her roommate. What nerve! And yet, something deeper was wrong. That person acted as though they had every right to be in the room. What was happening? This didn't feel like sleep at all, yet some stranger was perfectly at home in her room. At the same moment, the stranger looked up and straight into Tashi's eye, and Tashi's roommate Ashleigh appeared as an overlay on the stranger. She also looked up, startled, and looked straight into Tashi's eyes.
"Wha...?" Tashi managed, and the stranger looked at her blankly, as Ashleigh moved forward to help Tashi. The stranger now focused on Tashi, his brows knit, and his lips formed the word, "Who...?" but in silence. Then the double vision popped, Tashi could only see Ashleigh, and then there was darkness.
*Tashi's body fell back to the bed, and her breathing returned to a sleep pattern.*
(Note that my post above was ekspanded. Sorry, keyboard issues...isn't warmed up yet.)
As soon as Tashi fell back and into a deep sleep in her room, the man who had just formed the word 'Who?' in silence became clearer, and Tashi was fully awake in the room with him (her roommate was no longer to be seen, although the room looked the same, so this must be a nearby continuum.)
"How did you get in my room?" he asked.
"Erm, I wish I knew. How did YOU get in MY room? You faded in and my roommate faded out just as I was falling asleep - and here I am awake! And I was so exhausted, I couldn't speak to her, but now I don't feel tired at all.
"What is going on here, do you have any idea at all?" Tashi spoke urgently, looking into his eyes for any sign of understanding.
"Pffffffff....what a strange story - and what a strange event. We aren't supposed to have women in the barracks, you've put me in quite a spot. Oh, man, what do I do now?." He looked both angry and lost.
"Eh...I could be your sister who is a scout experienced in stealth - which I am - and that would also explain if I disappear again, yes? Barracks? This isn't a school? Your men? You don't have women who fight as well? How strange. Who protects your children? Who protects the markets and fields, and do you only have men as scouts? If so, my plan won't work at all." Tashi tried to plan quickly, but there were so many questions to ask...
"Lord, yes, our women fight, but men can't reproduce so we take point in battle. This is an elite unite trained in all manner of terrain and weaponry. We know each other better than our mothers know us - hiding you would be...something on the order of a Miracle. By the way, I am Garrick, what is your name? We will go with your story for now. We have another brother and sister, and Tashi is your middle or pet name, your first is Veronica. Got that? We are Garrick, Talia, Veronica, and Gerald, but never call him that, he goes by Gearwheel." Garrick spoke more rapidly than humanly possible, it seemed. And then we heard footsteps.
"Tashi! I am Tashi! Veronica Tashi." I whispered as quickly as he.
After a quick knock in a signal pattern, the door swung rapidly open, and a man in fatigues saluted as he spoke, "Sir!" And then his jaw dropped.
"My sister Veronica," spoke Garrick. "She's a courier with a family message, but may have to leave abruptly to scout. She's special ops, like us. Her pet name is Tashi, but used only by those close to her. Report!"
The corpsman recovered quickly and reported, eyes forward. "Exercises are laid out for your approval, sir! Waiting for your orders!"
"At ease, corpsman. Direct my sister to the corner room by the tower. She will probably be leaving shortly. Then meet me in the Ready Room." Garrick saluted the corpsman, and we all headed to the door. Garrick went down the hall to the right, and we turned left.
"Here we are, Ma'am, the room has its own facilities and a small supply of rations in the fridge. Will you require anything before I go?" His eyes remained straight forward, and I smothered a giggle before it left my thoughts.
"Thank you, no. That will be all." He saluted and marched off. And I shut the door, trembling in relief. Then the room began to look shadowy and another set of furnishings faded in. I was so exhausted I could barely stand, but turned, opened the door, and hurried down the hall...to see my roommate bending over me, a worried frown on her face. I gasped, and as she turned at the noise there was a loud "snap!" and - just as she saw me, I was back on my bed. But I was now awake. How strange. And...I was no longer tired.
"Ayah! My 'gift' seems to have taken a new direction! I hope I can finish up being a junior this year!" I spat out.
Tears formed in Tashi's eyes, and spilled onto her cheeks, though she tried to hold them back, and then she broke into sobbing. Her throat ached like trying to eat week-old bread after a yeasty loaf had sat in the sum.
"Oh, no, I HATE drama! And here I am doing it, but I just don't want to fail a year of school again! I am just too old to still be in high school and not even a senior, I feel such a failure!"
Tashi dropped to her pillow, turned to the wall, and let the tears spill. but after a few moments, she let it go. It was just more of the sme, and crying was embarrassing.
"I really looked like I was asleep? Because it didn't feel like it. I thought I was falling asleep out of pure exhaustion, but as I fell asleep here I woke up over there. I had to leave our room, and when I returned, I snapped back into my body. But - I was no longer tired. And I wasn't gone long at all.
"Oh, but how will I get through this schoolyear? Sorry, Ashleigh, this was going to be a fresh start, and I am doing everything backwards, right from the start. I just don't know what to do, this is so strange!"
Tashi's jaw dropped. Laughter? Laughter WITH her, not AT her? Tashi broke into laughter, too.
"Oh, noes! I had visions of long months of not talking and being unable to study or attend all my classes..but, it will be hard, you know, trying to show up and study....even harder than before, since my whole body is moving now. I wonder what the teachers will say?" Tashi just bubbled with relief.
(Sorry for the delay - my keyboard wasnt awake when i saw this this morning, and I forgot, was thinking I had posted. Myst's zeta testing will be over by end of month.)
Tashi lit up as though a string had lifted her straight up from the top of her head. As her shoulders relaxed and her head moved upward, she seemed to brighten, as though a shadowing cloud had rolled away from the sun...but as she opened her mouth to speak, Ashleigh fell back on the pillow and immediately her breathing shifted, she was fast asleep. Tashi sighed and spoke softly anyway.
"Oh, thank you, I may be able to keep up with my studies - and that is so much more than I had even hoped for!"
Tashi slipped off her slippers and slid under the covers. I might as well think through my day, since I am no longer tired. Perhaps, in an hour or two, I will be sleepy. Or perhaps I shall just review a number of things I haven't examined in a long while, in light of the new developments. This may take a lot of adjustment! Tashi sighed happily and snuggled down into her covers.
