It would be very difficult to explain Taoism and Tao to you in words...
There's a Wikipedia article that could explain it much better than I could. Here.
There's generally agreed to be two major varieties. Dao-Jiao (Religious Taoism, basically Taoism blended with traditional Chinese beliefs) and Dao-Jia (Philosophical Taoism, more along the lines of what Lao-Tzu and Chuang-Zi explained in their writings). Or, so I've read in a world religions book (my school only has one book on the subject, but it's accurate). sweatdrop
