((Hey ya'll! :3 ))
Somewhere deep in the forests of the valley, a large, black male lay at the top of the small hill. He was taking a long deserved rest from all of the endless burdens being the alpha male carried. His fur protected him from the full two-feet of snow that layered the floor but didn't stop him from feeling any less wet. "Come on, Kali," he mumbled under his breath.
He was waiting for his mate to come back from the hunt. Usually at this time, he would be playing with the pups back at the den but his brother, Rawsawe, had that under control. While he always loved to tell them stories about adventures long passed, Naito was more of the 'let's play until mother gets home and has to deal with you' type. But this winter had brought many new challenges and, with them, very little time for him to sleep. Humans, as a constant bother to him throughout his life, were drawing closer; His uncle had informed him of that much before he died the previous year. They would be treading on his paws before he knew it.
'Great,' he thought, exaspirated, 'Now I'll have nightmares if I try to sleep.' Naito got up and shook off his coat. It had grown as long as his father's had been during the fall. Hopefully, it would shed during the spring. He padded back in the direction of the den, hoping to at least run into Kali before he had to deal with some new tragedy that had befallen the pack overnight.
Unlike his brother, Mei Kyoshu was out doing something more productive: guarding the territory with Hitone, his half-sister. He'd seen far worse winters than this but none were as eventful. The availability of food went up and down like a rabbit's running: frequent and unexpected changes that were usually for the worse. It had gotten so bad that he had had more than his fair share of hunting duty just in the past few suns. He charished his time up in the high country alone with Hitone more than ever.
But, even though he was a lone wolf at heart, he still had to have someone to talk to every once in awhile. "Do you smell that, Hitone?" he barked, barely raising his nose up into the air. He didn't have to: the same smell had been lingering over the outer reaches of the territory for an entire moon.
Hitone was almost ecstatic whenever her half brother talked to her. He was the only one she really looked up to after her parents had died. Sometimes, she pretended like he was her real father. That way, he couldn't disappoint her by dieing. Besides, Rawsawe told her that, if he did die, he would probably just come back. But that was just a rumor and Hitone had to get used to death some time. "Yeah, I do. It's fire: the same smell that's been here for at least a moon."
Mei smiled. "Good job. But could you smell the bear that was here the other night? Remember to not just smell the obvious. You have to look behind every smell that your nose picks up. Question everything. Let nothing rest without finding another answer." It was good advice and he hoped that she would take it to heart. If their father had, maybe they wouldn't have gotten into so many heart spots with that devil Blackheart. "We have to get back to the den. Kali and Tarenz should be back soon with the hunt and, by the way, you look like you need it."
((I forgot how much fun this is. x3 ))

Daethian looked back at Avidian with a sigh. "Avi..."
"Don't 'Avi' me, you arrogant thing." She snapped, bitting down harder on his tail before letting go. "How can you just waltz up to them like that?" She hissed, watching the two who were waiting.
"They're wolves, Avi!" He snapped, turning to face her. "They can help us!" Daethian spun from her and dashed further into the clearing. He skidded in a patch of ice and ended sprawled in front of the two older wolves. He grinned sheepishly as he climbed to his feet. "Heh heh..." He laughed softly. "Sorry." He glanced back at Avi.
Avidian looked at him with a glare of the upmost loathing before following slowly, keeping herself as low to the ground as possible. She didn't have to like it, but she wouldn't leave him in potential danger.
"I'm Daethian." He said softly, turning back to the two strangers. "Sorry to uh... fall in on you like this but..." He trailed off, shrugging his shoulders. He scratched at the collar, the emerald sparkling in the light. "The little one behind me is Avidian. She doesn't trust anyone." He smiled up at them.
