Do we recruit?

Ok, awhile ago ..ok a long time ago i posted about how my grandma has a town praying for my lost soul. But now my mom has joined the mix, and she thinks im trying to recruit people to become atheist. I honestly do not get where she started thinking this, it doesn't help she keeps store reading a copy of the athesit bible. And....

1. i didn't know their was an atheist bible. (And i seriously doubt we use it as a refrence for anything...)

2. why can't she just ask me???

She just all of a sudden will see a man speeding and she'll say, oh i bet hes rushing to go deprogram his girlfriend.... Honestly it just pisses me off....

Why should she worry? Would it matter? She might be doing the same for her beliefs in the area of recruiting people.

I have this little book from Barnes and Nobles that is called "The Atheists Bible". It's a cute book full of different sayings from different people pertaining to religion and atheism.

Are you asking if we are supposed to recruit people? If that is the question I'd say no.

What you choose to believe or not believe in is your own business. It is not the business of others. If you are atheist, it is no more your place to go around getting people to drop religion, than it is for a theist to go around and get people to accept religion. It's not the place of others to chose for you.

Furthermore, you might check out the Q&A sub-forum for questions such as these. That is the more appropriate place for these kinds of threads, so thus it will be moved.

Oh yes, atheists recruit all the time by going to other countries and trying to force their inhabitants to become atheist.
Its a horrible manipulation of free will, isn't it?

Some Atheists do and some Atheists don't.

Personally I don't like the idea much. The way I see it is, if you can't figure it out for yourself, then it's better you stay where you are.

Hrm.. I don't. People get really REALLY pissed when you challenge the beliefs they've been taught since childhood. It can ruin friendships and cause a lot of hate so I don't like to actively recruit atheists and I find it kinda comical and ironic when many of them try. (Often they stand for science as a better system of beliefs, and they think they're smarter than theists for this fact. However there's some quote about how you shouldn't argue with an idiot because you too will quickly become an idiot. That's why I find it comical and ironic.)

I would have to agree with Dathu's explanation of why you shouldn't. Let someone figure it out on their own - it will carry much more weight and mean much more to them if they do.

Was that sarcasm or are you being serious? If it was a serious statement, can you please explain? I've tried to look up atheists recruiting in other countries (much like mission trips to convert natives to a different religion) but I couldn't actually find any sources or activist groups associated with such a cause. I found quite a few secular mission trips groups, but none that actually tried to promote atheism...
