Look at them squirm like worms in mud,
Blaming a ghost who's flesh and blood.
Crossing the line, tossing the dice,
Making decisions and paying the price.

Fox discovered it for us Gaian phans, and I helped to spread the word about it.

Phantom of the Opera by Tom Alonso. It's beautiful, it's intriguing, and most surprising of all, it's canon. It was originally produced at Toby's Dinner Theatre, but never got very far as a musical. However, Tom has said that it will be starting to run in Baltimore next year! (get your moneys out!)

More recent news says that Tom will be receiving a grant to create an adaptation of the musical fit for high school and youth performances!

Information about the musical can be found at http://www.tomalonso.com/phantom.htm

Thank goodness, I was wondering what you two were on about with your constant mentionings of "Alonso".

The music is very beautiful, and so tear-jerking. I think I've been converted to Alonso-fandom.

I still need to send him a reply email. sweatdrop

Edit: Finally got around to it. I asked if he's ever thought of writing a MB show.

Hi Miriam,

YOU ARE AWESOME!!! I really, really LOVE your new piece! The way you've taken
such lovely, yet simple melodies and built them into such a well
developed, powerful piece reminds me of the British composers that I
love (Britten, Vaughn Williams, etc.) You really have a way with
internal voices (French Horn players must love you!) and I think your
understanding of bass lines is really good.
I also really like your tasteful use of percussion (as you can hear
from the Phantom score, I love the glock, too!). The only tiny
suggestion I'd make is that when your B (slower) theme is repeated
perhaps, in addition to the orchestration getting thicker, some kind
of counter melody could be introduced
as well, which is something you're really good at anyway. I love when
the two themes come together at the end -- really fantastic. The soft
ending was unexpected and beautiful.

I've never written for a marching band, but I know that they are doing
amazing things these days and it would certainly be a challenging
assignment. Thanks for all your kind words about the Phantom score --
it really means a lot, especially coming from someone who is destined
to become a rich, famous composer herself someday. I really hope
you're seriously considering majoring in music comp in college. The
piece you sent has real heart, and you seem to have that innate
understanding of musical structure that is rare. No matter what,
though, keep writing! The world needs new music. Especially GOOD new
music!

Thanks again for sending the piece, and please let me know what
happens with it. I really am impressed.

Tom

A canon musical Phantom. Webber get your earplugs, you won't like what you hear.

I love this one so much. =3
