Ah the days of the monthly fleamarket, hot, sunny, outdoor festival of the cheap and and collectors. Row after row of booths selling everything from used toys to cheap natural oil perfume to eyesearingly colored controversial t-shirts. Newton loved coming here to sell the t-shirts and the driftwood geegaws she made, not only did it supplement the ol' cashbox, but she could always bet to find something interesting for the little ultrabooger later if she felt like it.

From under the awning of the new RV she sat in a lawn chair, ukelele in lap, her card table and wire-pipe displays of goods hung for all to see. It was a good day to make some fun.

Eclipse was huge. Alexis had set up the new aquarium equipment and it seemed like Eclipse had instantly swollen to fill the new space. The disturbing dreams were coming more and more frequently. It was scary and stressful and Alexis had to get out.

She’d heard about the fleamarket a few months ago but had never made the time to visit. Today seemed the perfect day for it. The amusing shops and the people that ran them would provide the perfect distraction for Alexis. She cheerily whistled to herself as she scanned the merchant’s wares. I wonder if Eclipse would like this? she thought to herself, playing with a slightly used toy.

Mhmm.. of there was the popsicle cart coming by, oh Cassi loved those mango pop bits Newton'd drop into the tank from time to time. She'd have to wait for it to come closer, but the thought made her grin, strumming the ukelele in her lap. The dreams came once in a while..the smells of wet, hot vegetation, swamp water, visions of tall tall trees and stone palaces. Really she was more fascinated by the fact that these dreams were almost...normal compared to most of the others she had.

"Do do doo doodoo. Do dodo doo. Do do doo doodoo Do dodo doo, do do doo doodop doodop doodop do da do do do-do dop!" She strummed the ukelele picking out a few notes.. 'Mahna Mahna' seemed to be choice to sing to today.

Alexis found herself drawn to the sound of the ukulele music as she wandered through the booths. The knick knacks she saw along the way were all very nice, but nothing she thought seriously about buying. She’d never been a major shopper and this afternoon was about enjoying the outdoors and relaxing.

Her first sight of the woman with the ukulele was nothing spectacular. She was another vendor with clothing and carvings, but her music made Alexis smile. “Hi there,” she said hesitantly, not wanting to intrude.

Newton looked up lazily and happy, in her hawaiian shirt, indian batik shorts and flipflops. "Hola, Mubarak ho, Shalom, Aloha and whatever else pleases ya..." She sat up and did a little dance in the chair, starting into one of her personal favorites, Kya Soorat Hai. She felt like being showy and lively, and plucked through the hindi-pop beats. "I'm here all day...got any requests for a crazy hippie lady?"

Crazy, indeed. The lively woman was an assault to Alexis’ senses, but she couldn’t stop herself from smiling. “Oh, I wouldn’t know what to suggest,” she said, and turned to the objects on display. “Do you make these yourself?”

She explored the t-shirts and driftwood carvings, pausing at times to take a closer look. In all honesty, she was a little bit distracted and her thoughts kept drifting between Eclipse in his tank at home and the fictional forest world she’d been thrust into during the nighttime hours.

"Indeed I did. Driftwood is from around the Rosewood area coastline, and sometimes from interesting dead trees by the road. I have my own silkscreening press where I do the t-shirts." She smiled and strummed the ukelele again, this time taking a slower tune, classical about the forests of india, singing along with it softly.

It was pretty obvious the girl was distracted, but Newton was more than happy to have her browse the carvings, shell-shacks, fans, and shirts on display. Most of the t-shirts were of her favorite sayings for anti-pikaia's children, though a few also sported stylized images of some of the Cambrians in the news.

She perked up looking over at the popsicle cart coming by and waved it over digging into her pocket. "Mango popsicle and a rice one please ya sweet hunka man." Newton teased the shaggy seller happily.

“Mmm,” she muttered in acknowledgement. Oh, the road. She noticed the RV for the first time. “What brings you here?”

The t-shirts were amazing. Alexis recognized the shapes of the Cambrians from the news, and was that Bolide? Her concentration returned for the moment and she grabbed the nearest anti-PC shirt and held it out for the woman to see. “I guess this is how you feel?” She was almost tempted to buy it.

Ooh, popsicles! “I’ll have a mango one as well, please!”

"Travelling...safe harbor...the chance to see and/or meet some of the local legends." She replied shrugging like hey...people suck sometimes you just gotta pull up and move. "The vanadlism rate is down here, so I might find a place to park the new home."

She grinned as the girl picked out the 'every villiage is now missing their idiot' shirt. "Yes...in so many words that is what I think of those people. My old RV got attacked and vandalized once on the road by some of their groupies."

The salesmen wheeled his belled cart over, pulling out three popsicles at a buck apiece, exchanging the money for two-coral orange pops and one greyish-white one. "Dhanya-waadh, good sir, thank ya."

“Oh, that’s terrible!” Alexis knew that the Pikaia’s Children maniacs were up to no good, but she didn’t know of anyone that they had personally affected. Unless you counted her sometimes tail. “Do you know why they attacked you?”

Alexis popped the popsicle into her mouth. It was delicious! “I think I’ll take a couple of these,” she said, gesturing towards the shirts. “Do you recommend any in particular?” If she was going to buy herself something, she’d definitely have to pick out a gift for Eclipse as well. Probably one of the driftwood carvings that he could admire through his bowl.

"I think it was because I expressed a deep personal distaste against their policies, their company and at one point made some rather disparraging remarks about their mothers. Just a moment," Newton smiled easily and opened up her RV door, Cassi was inside, in her new big fishtank with the gumball machine toys and pictures of indian pop-stars leaning against the sides of the tank. She carefully broke the mango popsicle into tinier chunks dropped a few into the tank and saving the rest for later. "There go you Cassi, your favorite, mango!"

She exited and locked the door behind her again before turning to smile at Alexis, unwrapping her own rice-pop."Cassi loves their mango popsicles."

The former sergant tapped her chin for a moment deciding, "I'd really reccomend the villiage idiots shirt for just plain text, Bolide is one of the more striking shirts but Snowline's a popular one too, so if you want one of her you'd better nab it fast."

“I see.” This woman was a little crazy. Alexis would never be so daring as to broadcast her feelings like that. A harmless graphic tee was one thing, but vocalizing her feelings to their faces was quite another. She watched, fascinated, as the funny woman walked into her RV, talking to herself.

“Oh, I didn’t realize there was someone else in there. Or is Cassi your pet?” The behavior reminded Alexis painfully of Eclipse and how they’d share her ice cream together.

“I know someone that would appreciate the Bolide shirt!” Alexis laughed and found one in her size, wondering briefly if they made Bolide-sized shirts.

Perhaps she is, but it wasn't in her nature to not speak her mind about a topic. "I didn't realize they were near me on the bus when I made the statements ofcourse, but I really do dislike how they act." Newton felt she had somewhat frightened the girl explaining herself a little.

"Cassiopeia is my pet...she loves getting mango anything, so the popsicle is a welcome treat today." She could almost imagine how delightful the cold treat would be on a warm day like this.

"He's and interesting fellow to be certain!" Newton chuckled and took a little less than logical leap on Alexis's comment. "Your friend a size larger than you? or do they need it much much bigger?"
PostPosted: Sun Aug 19, 2007 6:46 pm

Ah, that explained it. “Me too,” Alexis began, and looked around inadvertently. “I’ve been having a little trouble with them myself lately.” She was reluctant to elaborate further.

She smiled broadly. “I do the same for my pet. He’s a little pig and gobbles up anything I’m eating.”

Oh, maybe she knew Bolide personally. “It would definitely have to be much, much larger. Some more arm holes, too.” Alexis chuckled at the thought of the shark-man in a t-shirt.

"I'm Alexis, by the way."

"They'll harass anybody who thinks differently than them...hence why I dislike them so." Newton smirked wryly.

"Former E-4 Sergant Specialist, Newton Theophiliat." She offered out her hand to shake with Alexis. "We all pamper the small joys in our lives..."

"It sounds like you've met him..." Newton pointed to the Bolide t-shirt and smiled. "I think I might have an extra large shirt I could alter for such a purpose."
