I know that Romans didn't have a mythology of their own besides the story about the foundation of Rome. However, I recently heard about Janus, who seems to be a Roman god. I only found he was the "god of the doors", but I don't know if there are stories related to him. Can you help me? 3nodding

I don't know everything about Janus, but I have learned a little about him in my Latin class as well as my History of the Roman Republic class. He was indeed the god of doors, as well as beginnings and ends as he was believed to have two faces or heads (I think there are differing stories) one pointing in each direction. For this reason he was greatly associated with the new year, and it is because of this that the first month in the calendar is January. There was also a Temple of Janus in Rome which is tied to his role as the god of doors, as the doors to the temple were only closed during times of peace. In times of war they remained open. This is all I can remember about him, except that, being the god of doors, he was also an important household god and was believed to protect the entrance into one's house. This is all I can remember, and I would be interested to learn more from others as well.

The Romans actually did have their own gods, before they were influenced by the Greeks'. Theirs were largely household dieties, which is probably why they were so easily overshadowed by the Olympians. The Romans's gods were gods of little things, like doorways, gardens, wells, hearths, and houses. Some of them matched up with Greek counterparts. The ones that didn't largely fell out of memory.
Pamona is one I remember off of the top of my head. She was the goddess of orchards.
