Choir was a pretty big thing in primary school: there were about 30 of us when I was in P6 (5th grade) and the choir was selective. In P7 (6th grade) we have a different director who scrapped the audition process and the numbers rose to at least 50. However, we were pretty rubbish - there were some horrendously tone-deaf people in there.
In high school, we had one choir - I think there were about 20 members when I was in S2 (8th grade), but by the time I got to S5 (11th grade) we had 8 members, of which only 2 of us turned up on a regular basis - our school had 920 pupils. In S6 (12th grade), they decided they were only going to run a choir for S1 (7th grade) pupils, which I volunteered at. I think there were just over 10 members. So, all in all, pretty appalling.
The choral programme at university is far better: I can think of 5 choirs off the top of my head. I'm in 2 of them, one of which is a choral society with 100+ members; the other is a female chamber choir whose numbers hover around 20-25. The standard is also far better.
