The Basic Elemental Magics classroom is closer to the center of the building than most classes, and follows through from one hallway to another, leaving entry/exit doors into two different directions.

Clowry waited until the clock had moved to the appropriate time before standing to begin his lecture.

"I'd like to welcome you all to the start of the new school year," he began. "You've all been sorted into a house according to an element, though the reasons you were picked to be alligned with which house may vary greatly. It's my hope that you'll find your own reason for why you're in the your particular section by the time you've completed this course.

"To start, all basic elemental spells are variations on one of four main commands: create, destroy, manipulate and scry. Perhaps you know how to do some of these commands. A flame manipulator can wave a hand and light a candle that's clear across the room. A water destroyer can walk through a hurricane and not get wet. A wind creator could easilly fly like a bird and an earth scyer could determine how long ago a patch of ground was trod upon.

"To start, I'd ask you all to stand and move to a corner of the classroom that's with others from your same house. Everyone will begin trial spells with the element they've been assigned. I know it may not be the element you're most comfortable with, but that's how we're going to do it for today."

He waited until everyone had shifted. Once they'd all re-sat down, Professor Clowry drummed his fingers on his desk and one by one small fishbowls appeared on the desks.

"There are two things that fuel your magic that are important to beginning a spell as well. One is concentration. A clear and focussed mind is your strongest asset. Two is will power. If you don't believe your magic will work, it won't. Feel it! Know it! Command it with all of your being or else it will break loose and command you. As we go through the year you'll learn methods for these that may ease your ability to manage.

"I'd like to get a gauge on where we're at before we continue too much further. Please tip your wands into the containers on your desk and attempt to create an orb or otherwise small amount of the element you're alligned with in it."

Stanford stiffled a yawn as he listened to Dr. Clowry speak. He knew he had been up late the night before, but he didn't expect himself to be this tired.

Stan looked at the bowl of, well, dirt infront of him. "Make an orb out of that..." he thought. He pondered for a few moments. I might have never done this kind of magic before, but I suppose the concentration on it is the same as for chargeing the stones.

Stan pointed his wand at the bowl and visualized and orb infront of him. Slowly, the dirt seemed to compat into a rather lumpy orb before floating into the air.

"Come on Stan, concentrait..." he muttered. I was several moments more, but the orb spun slowly and condensed into a nearly perfect ball. Stan smiled, content, as he let his focus fall and the dirt plopped back down into the bowl. "Not bad for a first try..."
