Doctor War
It's the implied extrapolation. Any idiot knows that dropping massive amounts of body weight in a short period of time is bad for you.

Arent we smart and temperamental. Heres a word for you, irascible. And any idiot would know not to assume that everyone knows what you know cuz when u a**|u|me what happens?? Any idiot knows that.

It sounds pretty awesome to me. Everytime I'm the pill (the packet not this pill) I always forget. *shrug* It sounds awesome, I think I'll wait six months and see if there are any bad side effects to be on the side of caution.

Approved by the FDA...aren't they the same guys that approved Vioxx?

I'm the type who thinks that people own their own body and should be able to take whatever pill or drug they want, so I'm not going to say who should and shouldn't be taking this pill. It all comes down to personal responsibility.

What bugs me the most about scenarios like this one is that a lot of people (not necessarily on this forum, but in general) assume that, if the FDA approves something, it has to be safe. People hardly ever do their own research or think critically anymore. It's as if, with government approval, something unsafe magically becomes safe.

I won't be taking this pill, mainly because I'm worried about side effects--it's still way too early to tell if there will be any, and how bad they will be. I wouldn't judge anyone else if they chose to take it, though.

This "new" pill is really just a slight reformulation of a current pill -- the only difference is that it's being approved for continuous, long-term use. Lots of people on conventional birth control pills "stack" their packs, so they can go a long time without having a withdrawal bleed. Not FDA-approved, but not really harmful, either.

Also, the longer you are on BC, the more your body adapts to not ovulating, and you start building up less and less endometrium, and your periods get lighter. (I've been on BC for just over a year, and my periods have recently gotten so light I barely notice them.)

I thought i should throw in my 2 cents here cause this is something I feel strongly about since it effects me (almost) directly.

everyone is different so i dont think anyone can or has the right to say that nobody should do something or that its bad full stop.
we live in modern society where the vast majority of people NEED to go out and work to pay for bills, rent/mortgage, groceries...etc.
most women complain of period pain, and that is an entirely normal thing to go through. the majority of women can go out throughout the week on a fairly normal schedule albeit with more toilet breaks.
there are some women who ARE drama queens and act up and it has negative effects on all women and i'm sure every girl/women here has heard theiri PE teacher or someone argue that periods are not an illness and shouldnt prohibit you from any activity (with the exception of a few things like swimming although you CAN swim with a tampon)

but theres the rest of the women who SUFFER. and while most others can go out for dinner, and go to school or work and do what they like there are women that CANT do these things. I am one such person who has suffered from such period and I speak on behalf of everyone that does suffer in such a great deal. for a week of every month I am almost paralyzed, the pain is EXCRUCIATING (and i have a pretty high pain threshold for a girl). to expect to be able to lead a normal schedule or even just to attend a shift at work is completely unreasonable for anyone who's been in this position. but employers aren't going to have sympathy (after all, its not an illness right? so it cant be THAT bad - wrong, it CAN be), and taking a week off work every month is a sure way to get you fired. no job = no money = no house/flat and no food.

once about a year ago. last january if i remember correctly. the pain was so bad i was litrally screaming. i ran a hot (and i mean HOTTT) bath which usually helps ease the pain for a while but that didnt work so i ran another hot bath and it still didnt work. the pain was so bad i was acctually worried i was in labour or something (sounds silly now, but ive never had a baby and apparently it hurts alot so yeah i was scared) not only was i practically paralyzed, screaming in pain that wouldnt go away (even with pain killers) i was also panicing, worried sick that i was in labor or something and what i should do about that. (turns out no baby - whew but u get the idea...) even before that my periods had been bad but that was just the tip of the iceberg, i was genuinely scared for the following month.

honestly, if you've never experienced this pain before, in my opinion you're in no position to talk in opposition cause words just cannot describe.

first thing i done was get the contraceptive implant.
okay so its not perfect but it suits me.
im not up at the same time everyday to take a pill and even if i could be up at the same time everyday i wouldnt remember.
its in your arm. lasts three years. u can get it out any time and within a week ur fertile again (and similarly, takes a week to come into effect)

there are cons though cause it can cause irregular periods which in my case it caused constant bleeding for 5 months then i went back to the clinic and they gave me some pills to take for 8 weeks, 1 at the same time every day.
the pills have worked somewhat however i still have irregular periods and seem to be more prone to cystitis after sex (BIG pain in the a**, and that hurts too) but that said i DIDNT take them every day because i failed to remember. cause of the cystitis im kinda scared to have sex again but I plan to go back to the clinic and get it sorted.

so where the cons are concerned, irregular periods, yeah but that can be sorted. it can take up to 6 months to settle in. but i ******** up in getting it sorted.

BUT. despite the constant or irregular periods ive had no pain (sometimes a little twinge ever so often but nothing bothering really).

my point is to most women birth control is exactly that...
but to a minority of other women its a godsend. it's a way to survive cause without it they'd get fired from work from taking too much time off because they CANNOT POSSIBLY get to work to earn money to live on.

everyone has their own choice. some girls think they have it bad (and some indeed do) but if it's THAT bad you wouldn't bear it. you couldn't.

sorry its a bit long.

actually it is already possible to totally stop menstruation using the birth control already on the market. i know this b/c i did it for years! my ob/gyn recommmended it to me b/c i was having very painful periods and the ob/gyn was like "why not skip your periods altogether?" i used nuvaring and it would work with normal pills too apparently(or the patch). the ring is used for three weeks then removed for the fourth week of the month which is when you would typically have a period(just like pills are taken for three weeks and then placebos are given for the 4th week to keep you in habi of taking a daily pill). what my doc had me do is go ahead and insert a new ring rite after the third week so i was on it continuously instead of having the 4th weeek ringless. so i never got my period for like years. its not supposed to be dangerous but i wouldnt recommend it without your doctors approval. just thought youd wana know.

Personally, It sounds great not having a period and all but I think the side effects are way to risky.

It's a fantastic idea, but since no one knows for sure what will happen if your body stops having a period, I wonder how safe it is long term.
It could ruin your chances of ever having kids, and since the ones who take the pill probably haven't had kids - its like having your tubes tied.
To get to a point, maybe what pharmacists should be focusing on more is not what the pill can do - though that is extremely important - but who is taking it.

Getting rid og my "monthly visitor" would be brilliant, but it is usefull in knowing my pill has worked and I'm not pregnant.

But the amount of money I would save on not having to buy sanitary products, it's silly the amount I end up spending!

They stop taking the pill, simple as that. Not everyone will be using it, and human populations are way too high right now anyway.

I'm still more concerned by health affects. It seems like it would mess up your system really badly. I've read that even regular chemical contraceptives can make it more difficult for a woman to gain muscle mass, so what would this pill do to a person?

It sounds awesome. Marketing ploy or not, I'd try it.
