From Sputnikmusic: Billie Joe Armstrong and the boys from Green Day are currently writing material for the follow-up to 2004's monster American Idiot.
In recent weeks, the singer's been throwing out hints about a possible three-album set to be released in Summer 2008, a full four years on from their last effort. Speaking to MTV, Armstrong revealed: "At this point, to put a record out with like 12 songs on it and turn it in sounds a bit boring for us.
"So we want to definitely make something that is well thought out and [that] all of our blood is put into. The next album are going to be more than an event of a new record."
Green Day's next appearance on record is set to be their recording of John Lennon's 'Working Class Hero' for the tribute CD Instant Karma: The Campaign To Save Darfur, the proceeds of which will go to famine relief in war-torn Sudan. The track will also be released as a single to promote the album.

Some aren't sure if even Summer 2008 is a good estimation because according to people that read in the August 2007 Edition of Big Cheese Magazine, Billie says that "they have lots of songs but they just need to figure out how to put them together to make an album and he has no ******** clue when it will be released."
I hope it isn't too long before we get more Green Day.
As for Working Class Hero, I thought it was an excellent cover of John Lennon. Billie really captured him. It isn't my favorite, but they did a great job, in my opinion.

Well, to ease the waiting on you all...Green Day have put together a side band called Foxboro Hot Tubs. Go look them up on youtube--the songs have a 60s garage rock swing to them, but they're highly addictive and very enlightening.

What do you mean, "western"?
And... it's a cover, anyway. It's a John Lennon song. They did it for Amnesty International.
And that "three albums" information is false. HOWEVER, there will be three parts to the next album. It's separated into "acts", like a play. (Or... more similarly to an album, like a ballet)

You know, I loved their cover of 'Working Class Hero'. The cover I wasn't too fond of was 'The Saints are Coming', but that has a lot to do with the chorus and U2, since I can't really stand most of U2's music.
