Heres a question for all.

For LDS members: Do you think that you are at all sheltered or ignorant of other faiths?

For Non-members: Do you feel that you judge the mormon faith at times, and jump to conclusions about the members themselves?

I use to judge it, constantly. But I lost point in doing so, many of my closest friends are LDS, and when you get down to basics, we're bothing worshipping the imaginary invisible thing in the sky. I have no rights to judge.

So which question would I answer, having fit into both of your categories in my life?

As a Mormon: Yes. Completely ignorant of any other faiths.

As a Non-Mormon: Of course I judge the Mormon religion. I have an ethical duty to do so. However, the only snap judgements that I make about the members themselves are "That person is a ******** moron" or "This person seems rational" and that is usually based on what kind of information they put forth.

If some 24 year old c**t tells me that Joseph Smith never had more than one wife, I automatically put them into the "******** moron" category.

If someone says that he knows about the polygyny and has formulated a theory about it, I put them in the "possibly rational" category.

Then again, I believe I am the pinnacle of perfection, so everyone is automatically inferior to me.

Sheltered? Ignorant? You bet we are sweetcakes.

It's something I'm working on, but honestly, I know I'm still very inhibited about anything that isn't "I'm a good mormon!" stuff.

If you're talking about Joseph Smith, fine. You are just as ignorant as the rest of us. NO ONE knows for sure the story of Joseph Smith. Members of the church say he is a glorious prophet who brought truth, and those who persecuted him were simply jealous, or didn't understand. To a non-member, he's a polygamist scumbag who sexed up wives of "missionaries". The point is, no one of us knows for sure, because the history is so muddled, that we had to live it to know for sure.

As for you calling members of the church "predators" of our society, well, I would SERIOUSLY rethink making that statement. It makes you look like a serious a**hole, and simply proves that you are ignorant, perhaps more so than the rest of us.

I'm wondering two things.

1. What the hell are you trying to say?

2. What the hell does this have to do with what I said?

3. (Which Demigoddess missed): Read teh Rules sticky, please. The Validity of Mormonism is not to be debated here. If you have the overwhelming need to debate it, then take it to the Morality and Religion subforum of Extended Discussion. There is a thread there devoted to Mormonism.

This is your verbal warning.

And you're ignorant of this question: "Why do they ostracize non-mormons?" and think it's ok to say "That's so gay!"....You don't ******** hear me say "That's so mormon" because I know that's offensive.
and if i'm an a*****e then you really need to get a ******** LIFE!
sorry if it seemed I was bashing (Sometimes go overboard, thanks for catching that)......again it's not all of them just the OVERLY mormon bunch I'm talking about.

Se ga takai: OK! you really need to stop spelling "The" as 'TEH' it makes you sound very unintelligent. (ok you don't have to since it's your guild but still, it's an eye bleeder!)
Missionaries: If they don't want to be Mormon don't try to convert them.

I tend to judge mormons sometimes, especially when they start talking about how they think the dinosaurs never existed and that dinosaur bones were put on earth to "test our faith". Also when mormons try to tell me that the eath is only 2000 years old and that cave men never existed and that evolution is bull crap. Well, all of those stupid ideas has been scientifically proven wrong, but mormons just can't accept it.

I'm a non-member, and I try not to judge.

This can be difficult, though, when you actually get to know the person and find out they really are obnoxiously Mormon and rude.

I do indeed judge, but that is what life is all about. Figuring out what and who you are. Without Judgment you would get nowhere. Sometimes its the wrong kind of judgement. As for the members, I know that most of the LDS comlunity are kind people, but there are also many who are hypocrytical and have their hearts in the wrong place.

I am generally Mormon, but I have studied up on other faiths and like to think I am generally open to other faiths.
But I have noticed that lots of others around Utah (and here in Blanding), are close minded, have a mentality that they are better than everyone, that they have to change everyone else, and have gone from persecuted to persecutor. Those are the ones who give everyone a bad name.
