I figured rather than making another topic I'd post here..

I'm just pasting from what I wrote at another gecko forum because if i think about it again it's likely i'll start crying again.

Quote:
o, as many of you know, Boomer was having trouble... and today I took him to Chadwell Animal Hospital (per reccomendation of Kelly, GottaLuvHerps on here) Apparently Boomer has Crypto. I of course haven’t been doing well with this news.

The vet was wonderful and she wrote me up a note to take to PetSmart where I got him and try to get my money back, and let them know that their colony has crypto, and that they should euthanise boomer.

When I got to Petsmart they were very nice, and refunded my money not only for boomer, but also for the visit to the vet. They said when they got them in from the Breeder he had told them that they were just a little ’dehydrated’... obviously that’s not the case.

Of course, saying goodbye to Boomer wasn’t easy or fun, and I’ve been crying throughout this whole thing, but it eases my heart to know that he doesn’t have to suffer anymore.

I’m going to wait probably a few days to a week before even trying to get another-- but the vet suggested finding a reputable breeder online.. does anyone know of one that they trust that I can try?

Thank you,
Breanna

This is my newest, my baby girl Sugar. After all, she has the sweetest disposition ever. A colombian red tailed boa, het for the albino trait with a slim possibility for super hypo. But I've no interest in breeding her, or making a living breeding snakes.

She is very young, we made the purchase from a reputable breeder with a clean record. We've taken her to the exotics' vet even though she's not one bit ill - it's always nice to have a record, just incase she ever does contract anything. Right now she's feeding lovely on two fuzzies every week and a half. She's really good with soaking too, so we keep the humidity in her tank at 55.

She's on adult mice now XD. I totally agree, they grow really fast their first year o:. She's shedding almost once every 6 weeks; I'll have her on medium rats in another shed is my guess.

my friend said rats were healthier for snakes than mice. I could never test this theory on my boids because all of the rats we buy here don't come fuzzy o_0.

Rats tend to have a bit higher fat content(But not enough to be unhealthy) so snakes grow alot faster on them. All my female cornsnakes go on rats as soon as their ready to breed so their able to gain weight AND regain weight lost after laying eggs quickly.

it's not really crucial for me since I'm not breeding.. a few grams here or there arent going to hurt. But its good to know; I never knew the difference because when I actually do start feeding them rats, they've slowed growing enough that it doesn't affect them a lot XD.

Boas need rats though. Mice are never going to be enough for them. as adults they can eat large to jumbo rats

@@ hajime-- Adooorable, he's so cute! But I love how he blends in w/ your couch XDD.

@@ arcadia -- I dont need advice on how to take care of my baby boas, I have plenty of healthy adult snakes o.o;;. I do feed them rats, just not when they're babies. Fat content isn't always good for them anyways, I'm not breeding them and I dont need them to be a certain weight. They're all good sizes for their age and on strict diets. You treat it like they're starving in my care :\

I got Mimiru on 12x26x07. The day RIGHT after christmas. =D Her and Suza were my x-mas gifts. ^.^ It took me 2 months to name her. ^^' She is an observer, doesn't like to be held mcuh at all. Her and I play peek-aboo and hide and seek every day when I come home. Her favorite type of food is meal worms. She loves to just sit about and watch what is happening. Whenever I get something new, she comes over to the edge to inspect it. xD

He does love it when I take him out and give him some attention. He gets jealous of all the other animals very ealisy,( like trying to beat up a cat that is twice his size!). xD! He LOVES waxworms. I didn't have them for like 5 feedings and he started to hiss at me when I came near, so now I keep them stocked up. =) He is a very loving leo, you just have to pay him special attention. ^.~
