Lets see here. Who do I like best? Probably Hephaestus/Vulcan. He had it tough. First, his mom thinks he's hideous and throws him out. Then for some reason he gets stuck with Aphrodite/Venus, the slut of Olympia.
He was pretty ingenious in catching Aphrodite and Ares together. Smart smart.
I wonder, how did the Greeks and Romans come up with their myths? My favorite myths are of Callisto and Echo. Poor things, abused by the gods' jealousy. And Io. Eh, basically, I like the myths where things are screwed up by Zeus/Jupiter (no pun intended).

Hermonie Urameshi The thing is, when I was learning, Minerva wasn't the goddess of war. It was a god of war and I can't remember who it was. I need to learn it all again. Athena isn't the goddess of war. Ares is the god of war. Athena is the goddess of wisdom. People probably get that confused because she was extremely great in combat, and if she was on your side, count yourself lucky. She's the goddess of wisdom, so naturally she'd be great at making battle plans.

Hestia/Vesta has always been my favorite. I think this started because in my children's book of greek gods it said something like " Hestia never married, she was far too busy being the peace keeper between the other gods." And to me it just sounded like she was so much cooler. Plus, she gave up her seat for Dionysus which is pretty cool, and Zeus was in her debt. So she got to have sacrifices to her as much as he did. Whoever said she was boring was kinda right though, she never did leave Olympus. She did almost get raped once though...
I'm not as fond of Vesta though, mainly because of everything that being a Vestal Virgin entailed, and how some were buried alive and such. There was kinda a holiness to them that was really awesome in some ways ( because they had lots of special privileges that women of that time did not) but kinda creepy in other ways.

zingebar Krimson Kandy I like Minerva. I think it is interesting that she was born from the head of Zeus and came out a full grown woman. My two other favorites are Egyptians goddesses. Isis and Bastet. But the whole incest Isis/Horus/Osiris thing was a little dodgy, you'd have to admit. I don't think incest applies to the gods. They're all interbred, I think.

prettypurpleprincess Yh aapollo is like the sun so he is like te light of the world Apollo was associated with the sun but more appropriatly light, for he was the god of the arts, music, and en-"light"ening things. xd
Helios is the actual sun-god. I'm not sure how his worship became associated with Apollo.

Wow, I've never found Hestia as being part of any myths. Can you tell me the title of that book or refer me to a site online with that information?
I learned about the vestal virgins in Rome, touring the Forum. Pretty awesome. I didn't know they burried women alive! The tour guide left that part out. But I do remember that they were considered honored, by everyone, as priestesses of the goddess. They wore veils, which is why consecrated women - whether nuns or brides - wear veils nowadays. And they were allowed to leave the temple after they served for a certain amount of time. They would have been older, but not too old to marry, as many became wealth and successful women in high society afterward.

She's the goddess of wisdom, so naturally she'd be great at making battle plans. She's also the goddess of war. It's one of her lesser attributes. The Greeks seemed to revere more than Ares, as I remember (see The Illiad).
