She blinked, looking at him.
The guards blinked as well.
"We...We're taking the prisoner to see the king." Their leader spoke.
They backed up a bit, still holding their swords out though.

"No, I'll be taking her. I captured her." Vieno retorted. What was he doing? Lying to the authorities, that's what. Did he care? Not really, he was just protecting someone he believed to be innocent. He didn't see anything wrong in that.

"You'll be taking her?" He asked, putting his sword away and dismissing the others. "Very well, take her to the king. But be careful, she can get away easily."
Amira frowned, looking at Vieno. "Y...You're taking me?"

Vieno nodded. "Alright." he said. Just for effect, he took firm hold of Amira's forearm, glancing at her when she spoke to him. He didn't respond, proceeding to lead her in the direction of the castle, away from the guard. Once they were out of earshot, he could tell her the truth. "I'm not actually going to take you. It was just a ruse." he explained, looking over at her.

As soon as she was grabbed by the forearm, she felt all her hope slip away. She had been betrayed, and she didn't have the strength to fight back. Though after she was taken with him, he spoke. His words comforted her, but there was still a level of distrust.
"Where are you taking me then?"

"Well, for now, away from the guards. You don't want to get captured, do you?" Vieno asked. Where would he take her now, though? For her to avoid capture, she'd either have to find a suitable place to hide or get out of town. They were heading in the same direction in which his house was located, perhaps he could hide her there for the time-being.

"Then...We have to get out of the city...Quickly." She said, trying to pull her arm out of his grasp. "I don't care where, but...We need to find a place where they don't have guards...They're looking for me everywhere... All the towns."

Vieno was about to ask what she meant by "we". Then, he realized that once it was realized that Amira had not been captured and presented to the king, he'd be wanted as well. Perhaps for "aiding a criminal" or something like that. "How about Nubai? It's smaller, less likely to be occupied." he said. He noticed she was trying to get out of his hold, so he let her go.

"Nubai...isn't occupied at all. The king thinks it's too poor to tax..." She said, "And too small and having to many elderly men and women and small children to serve as an army."
She sighed.
"It's my hometown...I think it would be a perfect place to hide...But about a day's walk from here."

"Then let's get going... I need to get out of here as well." Vieno said. He was about to start moving towards the nearest city exit when he thought of something. "Wait. How are we going to get out of here without you being recognized by the gate guards?" he asked her.

"Follow me." She said, grabbing his arm. She led him behind a house, carefully. "I used this hole in the wall to get in...So we can use it to get out."
She bend down, releasing his arm and looked at a section of the wall that was covered with a rug. Not the best concealment, but it worked. She moved it, revealing the hole that any normal sized person could walk through.
"See?"

"Ah, yes." Vieno simply said, examining the makeshift exit. "Well... ladies first." he then said, looking at her and gesturing towards the hole. He took a quick glance around. No one had seen them, at least he thought no one had.

She went into the passage, letting the rug fall behind her and cover the hole. She walked for a bit, before coming out the other side, and looking around. No one had seen them apparantly. There weren't guards surrounding them. That was a good sign.

Vieno followed suit, making sure the hole was covered as he went out. He wondered if he would be returning to this city anytime soon. He surely hoped he wouldn't have to come back here. He'd wasted five years of his life here.
