Alrighty, so as I see more women "acting like men" meaning doing things that were once identified with men. Now, there aren't too many men that do things that were once identified with women. A woman can do all the things a man can do, its more socially acceptable for a woman to wear "men's clothing" as opposed to a man wearing "women's clothing." My idea is that being a woman is more degrading. Things that women stereotypically do aren't as appreciated as they were, and most women that I know are in a way transforming their bodies to be more like a man. There's a new birth control out which controls your period to be 4 each year. I think that is rediculous. Its not fine and dandy to surpress your menstral cycle that much, eventually it will harm your body.
I think a period is actually a good thing. In the insanity of PMS you have sort of a heightened awareness, and whatever is bothering you at that time is most likely an underlying problem in your life. Solving these problems when you're slightly more level headed somehow helps with cramps.

That's the first time I heard about that type of birth control and that just sounds crazy. Sure, periods are annoying, but people have to realize that there will be concequences of messing with their bodies like that.

as a result to first and second wave feminism women dress more like men, with pants. but there is still a difference between women's and men's pants color, cut, fabric, sizes, etc. women can be feminine while wearing pants therefore they are not deminishing their womanly-ness. if a woman decides to wear men's pants it could be because she want's to be on the same level as men, but it could also mean other things like her own personal style.
also, i think that being a woman is not degrading at all.

shizznazzled also, i think that being a woman is not degrading at all. Obviously, but many sexist men do. I believe that was nygeel's point. That kind of patriarchal attitude in a society trickles down and women--even feminists--come to believe that to be good is to be male in many ways. Wear a suit to look professional, be agressive to get ahead, don't have kids, even look androgynous, body-wise; eschew the curves of a typical female. Periods are a problem, so get rid of them, instead of just learning to accept them as a part of life. (I realise many women hate their period because it's painful and depressing--I do too) And conversely, men who emulate women are not given any leeway at all. It's bad enough for male nurses--never mind wearing makeup, dresses or jewelry that isn't uber-masculine. What's a guy to do when he has things to carry that are too big for his pockets and too small for a backpack or briefcase? They can't even like romantic movies without raising eyebrows.

That's exactly what I was trying to get across.

maybe that's why the male oriented media is afraid of what women are capable of... they are obviously lacking of feeling whilst we are more aware of it... that's why they suppress us... but then again don't women dominate the ads, the mall, the grocery?
cheers to the ultimate sign of being a woman... the period. biggrin
