First appearance of Oshima.

Oshima's Journal
First Entry

Jabberwock gave me a journal, in hopes that perhaps writing down my day-to-day affairs may jog my failing memory. It is... frustrating to only rember your own name, and nothing more. At least, I think it was my name. In any event, it is my name now.

I woke up to find myself surrounded by strange devices made of fire gems and stone. It was very comforting, and certainly better than the previous waking. My host's name is Jabberwock, and he serves a child by the name of Gahainen. They have made me feel quite welcome here, and seem to be in no hurry for me to move on. Perhaps settling into this new home may awaken memories of the previous one.

Oshima's Journal
Second Entry

I've been assisting Gahainen in building a temple within the shop, which has given me a strong sense of focus and purpose. I still know no more about my past than I did when I arrived, but perhaps building a new life will give me insight to the previous one. I've been working mostly with the metal work- welding is particularly satisfying (and I've picked up the techniques pretty quickly). I'll cut this short- still a lot of work to do before the masters of the house return.

((Status Update: Within the past two months, the following have happened:

  • I was in a car accident. Car was totalled, I suffered minor soft tissue damage.

  • One week after the car accident, Aus and I were in a motorcycle accident. Motorcycle was totalled, I suffered a concussion, minor-moderate soft tissue damage, and severe sprains. Aus suffered minor-moderate soft tissue damage and a broken bone that will require extensive plates and pins surgery to fix. EMT informed us that we were lucky to walk away at all.

  • Hurricane Katrina destroyed my webhost's (and good friend's) home and server equiptment. As a result, it will be weeks (possibly months) before my website/image database is restored. Thankfully (and most importantly) he and his family evacuated early.

  • My computer had to be reformatted several times and troubleshot- ultimately, a new OS had to be installed. This seems to have fixed the problems.

  • My father-in-law was prescribed an antibiotic that lead to him suffering a kidney shutdown and heart problems. After a touch-and-go couple of days, the problem was identified, and he is now recovering.

  • Misc family and work drama. Rinse, repeat.

  • Transferring all my MEF images to Image Shack, and trying to get things ready for the grand opening. Add many Gaia glitches, unreliable satellite connection for uploading, and corrupted backup images in need of replacement- stir and let simmer.

So- needless to say, I've had a rough past couple of months. My apologies for falling behind on this journal, I'll do my best to catch up now that offline concerns seem to have calmed down slightly. sweatdrop ))

    Oshima's Journal
    Third Entry

I feel as though I've lost something... something important. It's a feeling that's been gnawing at me all day, even as I assisted my hostess and her friends in moving from the house in Durem to the huge shop in Aekea. My stamina is still weak, and I had to take many rest breaks throughout the day. Still, it's a damn sight better than I was the first day Jabberwock dragged me up to the Durem house steps. Slowly but surely, I suppose.

The new room is lovely, and decorated in various red, gold, and orange tones with black accents. I can control the room's temperature, which means it will be set to "sweltering heat", unless guests are dropping by. I'm going to cut this short and go make some hot tea- Weaver gave me a wonderful cinnamon spice blend this afternoon, and I'm looking forward to trying it.

    Fourth Entry

My hostess has given me several designs for a temple area, and requested my assistance in building it within Casa Enancto. I agreed, of course. While working on these designs, I've found I have an interesting ability to shape stone with my hands. Stone sculpting has become something of an obsession since then, and a marvelous creative outlet. Given enough time, I may fill the house with ornate sculptures. Weaver has suggested I might enjoy learning metalsmithing as well, so I may look into trying that soon.

Damned blue-haired b*****d! I can't believe he destroyed one of my sculptures! And to speak to Gahainen in such a manner- he has no sense of decorum whatsoever!

The sculpture has been repaired, but the damage will not be forgotten. I have a horde of sprockets just waiting for an excuse to wreak havoc, and when he least expects it...

    Sixth Entry

I've been working with Gahainen nearly non-stop for quite some time now. I think it's safe to say the temple has become an obsession, but at least it has vastly improved my artistic abilities. I've been using my stone shaping abilities so much, it feels as natural as breathing. The stone being used for construction is unlike any other I've come across, and seems to... pulse, when I touch it. My work covers every wall, ceiling, and floor within the temple construction area. Much of it is still in rough form, but the finished pieces take my breath away. Well, enough blabbing about my day, time to get back to work!

    Seventh Entry

Something is watching me work, hiding within the shadows of the temple. There are glimpses of movement seen out of the corner of my eyes, slight sounds, and oddly flickering lights. I think they are some kind of muses- inspiring my work, encouraging my every move. Whatever they are, they seem to be good luck... my work improves by leaps and bounds each day. I haven't stopped to eat or rest in... well, in quite a while. This morning, there was a bowl of curry and meat, and a carafe of juice waiting for me around one of the corridor's bends. Far be it from me to refuse my muses.

The meat tasted slightly of pork, but also a bit of beef. It was excellent quality, but I can't place what it was. The juice appeared to be from blood oranges, but mixed with something else I just can't place either. In any event, I felt rejuvinated and ready to tackle even larger projects throughout the day. It's been a very productive month, and I'm looking forward to the next... enough chit chat, time for work!

Got a call from my mom around 4am this morning- my dad had a heart attack. He's at the hospital, and his vitals are improving- so hopefully this means the worst of it is over. He's just gone in to have a heart cath test.

I'm heading to Houston soon to be with my dad, should be there in roughly 8-9 hours. I won't be back for a bit, so if you don't hear from me- that's why. Wish me luck on my trip, and see you all in a few weeks, if all goes as well as can be expected. heart Fandangle journal check is being moved to April 1, for what is probably a pretty obvious reason.

All of my breedable journals are on hiatus until I get back.

Edit: My dad recovered, and is doing well now. Thank you to all those who sent well wishes and prayers. heart

    Oshima's Journal
    Eighth Entry

It's been a long time since I wrote in this journal. Things have changed so much, it's hard to know where to begin. The temple stands empty now, except for my presence. I continue to work on its construction, but now it is more of an epic headstone than place of worship. I'm one of the few left, and still don't know exactly what happened to the various lodgers that used to call Casa Encanto their home.

For a long time after the strange disappearances, the Emporium stood mostly empty and silent. Now there seems to be signs of life emerging, but still no sign of Moorgahaine. Austerulous said his partner just wasn't ready to face the memories haunting this place yet. I wonder how long it will be before the shop's owners become truly present again?
